Square Enix has launched the FFXIV forums and closed down the beta ones, but...

http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/63381-Forum-Design-and-Features-Update-%28Aug.-22%29?p=1015217#post1015217

It appears they are the most heavily restricted forums, for paying customers mind you (since you need an ARR character to post in there), in the history of gaming.

Please participate in the first thread created against these limits, here:

http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/63446-Forum-posting-restrictions

And also spread the word via Facebook / Twitter and the like.

They are entitled to put limits in place to limit abuse / spam / server load, but not these kind of limits.

I hope you agree with me and let them know this is ridiculous. Cheers!

PS: The above is a personal post and does not mean to reflect Zam's opinion on the matter, or what have you. Smiley: grin

then again, we have the zam forums, so we won't need to make many posts there =D

I rarely posted on the beta forums unless I was having an issue...

I'm going to go ahead and say I'll just be using ZAM's forums too.

Yeah, we will just all take info that we find useful from the Official forums and post it here. Lol. Maybe when they see nobody is using their forums they will change it, if not, oh well.

As someone who has been active on the official forums since their launch, I say good.

The official forums have served as a lightning rod for trolls to keep them away from communities like ZAM but things still got out of hand with the mind-numbingly blatant trolling.

LOL I cant post anywhere but the newbie forum because 'your main character's level is not high enough'. Yeah no ***** lets get stuck into to early access so I can fix that eh? Balls lol.

I'd pretty much just post there if you want a dev response. Otherwise, it looks like you won't see many fun threads there anymore.

I will (and did so in Beta as well) use Zam's forums as my primary forums, but okay, this sort of limits is borderline ridiculous.

You can't create a thread until you are lv. 25? Oh, come on...

Interestingly enough, right now only Legacy players can create threads, since all 2.0 players are level 20 Smiley: lol

I posted in two welcome threads and that was it. (non-legacy leveled character) from P4. I went to post in discussion threads about crafting and learned of this horrid restriction. I am sure they'll change it in the near future due to community outrage. However I have to wonder just what in the hell they were thinking with these limit types. A community based game where you cannot communicate with said community fully outside of the game on their own official forums.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the desire to limit or even stop "trolling" posts. But forums are forums. And this is how forums have been for over a decade. Furthermore, forum posters for a game are like their own little community, representing albeit a smaller number of the overall subscriber base. If a third of the total game's population wants to sit on their forum and troll each other... let them.

So basically an even dumber version of the Beta forums.

That is... wow.

So they actually put grinding in as a requirement for their forums too? Classic!

I can't exactly say I blame them after seeing the sort of apocalyptic wasteland that General Discussion turned in to on the Beta forums, much less several other sub-forums.

All the same, they're definitely going off the deep end in regards to countering that. A limit on started threads, I could certainly understand. But the amount of posts per day coupled with the time limit between them is downright nutty.

Do you think it's to deter gold seller spam?

Thank you for helping to spread awareness of this, and linking my thread here, I will continue to spread awareness of the issue and try to convince people to speak up about it.

I'm pretty sure they had done this in the past temporarily too to limit traffic.

You're welcome Scish! I would add my own comments there, but it'll have to wait until tomorrow apparently.

I cant even see the posts you have linked, so I think any restrictions they have in place are completely necessary at the moment, because they clearly don't have the infrastructure to handle the current load.

It begs the question: Why have a forum if you don't want people using it?

Just another reason to only use ZAM :)
#21 Aug 22 2013 at 8:47 AM Rating: Good
I don't see any problems with this. Pretty smart actually.

Also "* This restriction does not apply to the "Technical Support," "Bug Reports," "New Player Help" and "Community Events" forums and sub-forums. However, please note that off-topic threads that do not match the intended theme of the sub-forum will be deleted. Please make sure that thread content matches with the theme of the forum before you create a thread.
* The restriction will reset every 24 hours."

I managed to get it to accept my character and open the rule post now, and after seeing this I am even more fine with their current restrictions.

Based on what the Beta forums were like, this is a good thing. Hopefully all the trolls have the "If I'm not allowed to post here, I'll go elsewhere attitude."
