Merry Christmas Eve!

How do we think AAR will transition to the PS4? Will there be meaningful differences?

Thanks and have fun tomorrow!

The PS4 should be an optimized port of the PC version. So we should have full 1080p, not 720. The draw distance, textures, and loading should be much faster. The PS3 has only 512MB compared to 8GB on the PS4. The PS4 version will have Twitch streaming and cross chat so we can talk with all PS4 players. It's my personal belief that because of the optimization ability of a console, the PS4 will benchmark almost as high as the highest PC rigs. I'm still on the fence towards buying the PS4 version because I already play the PS3 and might upgrade to the PC. I do have high hopes for the PS4 version though.

It will likely be graphically awesome and cost $600 dollars.

Better graphics and less strain like it is on the PS3.

If I remember correctly SE stated they would not have you pay 2 subs. So for PS4 you would pay for PSplus and not FFXIV.

It is graphically awesome. And will only cost 400. And I saw that SE said they are working on a solution for ps3 players who upgrade to ps4. And also the ps+ subscription. I am definitely going to upgrade when I get my ps4 and the game is released for it. I have my ps4 preordered and it will be delivered Nov. 15th. Basically early Christmas. I also saw that Sony is doing a promotion with publishers to help transition to the new console. I know if you buy the ps3 version of Call of Duty Ghosts you can buy the ps4 version for $10. Sony said they are leaving the pricing up to the publisher though.

You got that backwards, Sony started that for the MMOs that are P2P you won't have to have a PSplus because they felt that it would be unfair to consumers. This is the only exception to the PSplus online play requirement on the PS4 and it was made specificly due to concers expressed about FFXIV ARR and ESO.

As other have said, you don't need playstation plus to play FFXIV on the PS4. I expect it to be a lot better than the PS3.

PS4 is pretty much just a PC spec wise so it'll probably be like using a controller on PC.

Yeah. Even if I had to pay both I probably won't mind much. For like $4.20 a month you get access to cloud storage and a constant stream of free games and deals on other games. I realize for some people money can get tight but I think they are giving more than your money's worth.

I'm predicting the ps4 version will not make you have to sign in to psn in order to play. I think I saw something similar to another game.

Sony and others are offering $10 PS3>PS4 game upgrades for games like Call of Duty: Ghosts. Hopefully SE can do the same with ARR.

I anticipate the PS4 release will coincide with the first expansion.

I think there is a good chance I'll pick up the ps4 version.

Compared to what their luminous engine can do, Final Fantasy 14 looks like trash. People talk a lot about not being able to tell the difference between ps3 & ps4 due to the "law of diminishing returns." But I tell you what, I can tell just from watching youtube clips. Direct x11 is awesome. And it's not just graphics in the traditional oooh that's pretty sense, it's about draw distances and number of characters popping on the screen at once.

One big difference is 720 vs 1080. Playing at a higher resolution is a huge improvement.

All that said, it's direct x 11 support that will make this game sparkle. And to fully implement that they will have to do a lot of extra work. It will mean new bmaps and new all sorts of stuff I don't fully understand to really utilize dx11. That's stuff they aren't currently working on. What they are working on is getting the ps4 port ready for an early 2014 launch. That means porting it from pc to ps4. So it will look as close to the pc as possible.

The Dx 11 support will come months/years after that. And it will come to ps4 and PC. It's my prediction/expectation that implementation of dx11 is where you'll see a big difference. That and playing at 720 feels like playing gimped. I like tiny characters and tiny hotkeys. When DX11 support comes out, ps3 players will be seeing a way different game.

Analog control for moving around is smoother than wasd+mouse but you don't have access to the number of keys you really need to have access to in battle.

This. If I want to upgrade might as well go PC. Can build one with the best spec and get it just as mush or cheaper than the PS4. And not mothnly gold membership BS. That was the main reason I was a Playstation fan for so long. They kinda hurt me with that. O well.

Like a bunch of people stated, pretty sure you won't have to have plus to play ffxiv. I think the only games you need it for is like call of duty multiplayer and things like that. I think there are even some free to play shooters coming out that you won't need it. Plus all of ps4's online features like video sharing, voice chat, Netflix and other apps aren't behind a pay wall either. On xbone everything is behind the pay wall. Pretty much to do anything online on xbone you have to have gold. Like I said I will probably get plus anyways because I think it's a good deal. But for someone that doesn't have it I don't think it will hinder you much as opposed to xbone.

Really then its a possibility now. I just heard from someone to play online period you have to have Plus and I was like "NOPE". For now though my PS3 will do fine.
