What do you think? Is Yoshi-P over-exaggerating, or challenging us?

Awesome 40 minute Gamescon Interview

He mentions this around 8:30

I think he sorely underestimates western mmo players.

Aren't there also way more than 100 legacy players that are basically starting the game at max level? Even if you ignore those of us starting from scratch, does he really believe that fewer than 100 legacy players will clear the first raid before the first major patch?

He'll be in for a surprise.

Isn't Bahamut's Labyrinth so long and difficult that it allows you to save your progress? It may take weeks just to get to the last boss.

At least this will hopefully put to bed the whole "game is easymode" argument people like to swing around. Even if it ends up being 1,000 players, or 5,000, it seems like pretty solid evidence that the endgame content won't be faceroll easy.

Well, here is my theory on this.

In the same interview, he says that Bahamut's Coil is harder than The Crystal Tower. Well... CT is coming in patch 2.1 "sometime in 2013."

If it's considered easier, it probably has lower iLVL gear. This gear is probably a gap in content, like Ilvl 80, while the gear in Bahamut's Coil is iLVL 90 (The alaggan items in the latest DAT mine).

So I imagine, that the people who clear it will have to do so with iLVL 70 gear, making it much much harder until patch 2.1.

Just my theory.

Bahamut is also 8-man content versus the CT's 24-man. I would also imagine that BC might not be on the duty finder at first because of it's difficulty.

Wait what?

I thought the Crystal Tower was supposed to be the second tier raid. Wasn't the first tier Bahamut's Something?

Ugh, so they're doing what they did in XI with the Adoulin Delve vs Skirmish vs Bayld gear cluster@#%^?

SE: Release the hardest content first! Watch them struggle hahaha.

SE two weeks later: Oh wait, there was an unexpected exploit and now our player base is divided into haves and have nots! NERF IT... but don't roll anyone back. Everyone else complaining, you're doing it in the wrong order. Go back to Neo Nyzul Isle before you try this Extremely Hardmode Content (that is now easy mode for the Haves.)

Merf. We're still recovering from that.

I'm a bit confused because I thought it was called The Labrynth of Bahamut.

Maybe it's Lab > CT > Coil?

Unfortunately, before long you'll get people claiming that it's so easy that they were able to do it while drunk out of their minds, had a sandwich in one hand and some sort of flashy sex toy in the other, while their stereo was blasting dubstep loudly enough to be heard in the next area code, and anyone who finds it the least bit difficult is a baddie who should uninstall their game.

If by underestimating you mean underestimating how obsessive and crazy the ultra-hardcore raid crowd can be, then yeah. *looks at 18 hour Pandemonium Warden boss fight in FFXI* Of course, SE should have NEVER allowed such a thing into the game, but still...

I think he's just a marketing genius. He is challenging those people to play obsessively, post videos of world firsts to youtube, create more hype, create an elite class of player that casual players aspire to and chase like a carrot.

Even if he's wrong, people like me will be trying to be one of the 100 or 1,000 or 10,000.

It's a challenge, and basicly a retort to those complaining about the game's current difficulty. "You think it's too easy, here, try to get a 100 past this content before we patch the game."

Remember players have to advance far enough into the story as well to access this place and in addition to that, have the appropriate gear to challenge.

Then there's the amount of it. There's 5 levels of the Coil, and we have no idea how large the coils themselves are. (Until the maps are mined, at least.)

So this is a legit challenge from Yoshi-p, and a good measuring stick to see how accurate his assessments of the hardcore base is. Is his underestimating the absolute hardest of the hardcore? Likely so, but pressuring players to play the hard content in the game will push the hardcore players to eye this particular segment of the game over others that are not designed for their mindset.

It's a smart PR move if absolutely nothing else.

I never seen a challenge really work in MMOs. I won't doubt it will not be a ton of players though.

Absolute virtue/pandemonium warden

then again, those two are a bit above mere "challenges" and are more like "WHAT SORTA BS IS THIS?!"

Did we ever figure out that hint video for AV?

Maybe that's what has me confused here. Bahamut's Labyrinth is the one we've heard about that's the first tier raid... then Crystal Tower... then this other thing that before now I'd never heard of.

So he's saying that people won't be able to clear a tier 3 raid before tier 2 is available for play? Uh... ok? I'm not sure what that proves other than sequence-breaking the raid structure doesn't work?

I'm more concerned about what Catwho mentioned.

I think he's beatable now. It's something like, while you're fighting AV, another party has to be killing the other jailers corresponding to the jobs you want to lock out? or beating him with a Whm locks out his Bene?

I forget but basically they figured out how to keep him from doing specific 2 hours.
