How many players does it take to cause "World full"?Follow

I wonder how many active players it takes to cause a server give us the whole "World is currently full" message. In the future we can try and keep tabs on populations to know when we should just leave our characters logged in to avoid getting locked out like this.Smiley: yippee

Or create a stinking queue system? No offense to SE, but the have some great programmers (not seeing lag at all) and some HORRID programmers/technicians (Duty Finder, durrrr).

Its really no different than Besieged when it first came out. After awhile it died down to not everyone wanting to play it all at once.

Yoshi said they wanted to be able to support 5000 concurrent players per server. Not sure if they were able to surpass those estimates.

then i dont see the problem because im pretty sure theres not 5000 ppl running around on every locked server lol

They do have a queue system. The last couple days have just been bad with THAT many people wanting to play THAT much. It seems like we didn't do enough stress testing during the beta. I doubt they anticipated this much activity. Too bad it's only going to get worse once everyone else joins in.

I posted this elsewhere but Blizzard when explaining the fail of their first expansion said that they knew that usually only about 20% of a servers population was logged in at any one time. Therefore, if the world could take 5,000 - they allowed 25,000 people to be registered to each world. Day to day, that works fine but then when a new update is released most people try to access at the same time causing the massive issues.

Same here for SE. If the world pop is max 5,000 - they will be allowing many more to have accounts. Problem is right now that most of the people registered to play on the server now cant.

That's why you have server queue's though if it took 1-2 hours I wouldn't mind but I am not going to sit there hitting the join button and hoping it works.

They don't want people hanging out in the log-in and lobby servers either, most likely, or it would be a simple queue with a cap set. It looks like they're increasing incrementally to find the breaking point so they can make it not break anymore. Takes time.

They do have a queue system, they just took it off for now to relieve server congestion, which is silly since once they remove the cap and open queues the instance problem will reoccur. I just know I'm not starting over AGAIN. I started on Leviathan and moved to Diabolos to play with my friend, but now every server except the JP servers are full. It seems like 1 server can hold about 1000 players at once currently. So, about 20 servers times 1000 players equals about 20,000 players are able to play currently on NA/EU servers.

Wow, I want to see the 90k error again not the 1017 telling me the world is full try again later. Seeing that made me feel stupid. I have two months of crysta saved since 1.0 SE has my money already. If I do get in and 90k boots me, 1017 will tell me to get in line and wait to get back in the club/server. Who thinks of this stuff they must be in panic mode? Smiley: bah

1000 people is not many. Even ffxi does better than that even now. Has anyone been on that can tell us how many are on their server this minute?

I am sure the limit is much more then 1000, its probably closer to 5000.

My question is, when do they decide to open up more servers and allow players to transfer to them? Would that be the best solution? Or is there a greater issue than worlds being full?

5,000 is probably the cap on how many characters can be created, but 1,000~ is most likely the cap of how many players can be on a single server at any one time.

Edit: After 1,000 they probably start a queue to get on the server and lock character creation. Then the server probably reaches full capacity at or around 5,000.

They didn't do NEARLY enough stress testing. Getting into the beta was, for many people, way too complicated to begin with. I didn't have any problems, having gotten in rather early, but the so-called 'open beta' was a bit of a joke. 3 days isn't nearly enough time to test the load on your servers.

The whole 'it's really hard to deal with all of the congestion' excuse doesn't cut the mustard, anyway. They KNOW how many people pre-ordered the game. They gave out the codes, they accepted the money, and they know how many people made characters on each servers. They have the data -- this is just a lack of preparation and competence, or maybe even just a 'who gives a ****' attitude by the devs towards (mainly) the EU/NA community. I don't know if they got their servers on the cheap or something, but they had to know what was coming and how it /should/ be dealt with.

Again, FFXI has a limit of around 5,000 active characters per server, with a soft cap of around 20,000 characters max per server. It's 11 years old. Surely they've managed to scale up architecture beyond that in the last deade?

My guess is actually 10,000 active characters a world. And it's the data center's internal network that's choking on its own vomit, not the individual servers.
