Worst launch in modern MMO history?Follow

#1 Aug 26 2013 at 4:39 PM Rating: Sub-Default
Some people say that the stuff happening in ARR early access is common to MMO launches. Lol, no, its not. MMO launches have bugs, but being unable to play completely - that new to me. Never seen that before, anywhere.

Seriously, how can it be any worse than that? Unless SE staff comes to your house with bats and beat you with them this is worst launch in modern MMO history. Players not being able to play at all it the ultimate failure.

And that's just the early launch. Can you imagine what will happen at the full launch tomorrow. I completely expect SE servers to explode. Never seen it this bad anywhere. I really wonder what SE uses for servers... maybe toasters?

Ahh yes it has:

It is technically not early access... it is the 27 in Japan.

WoW was unplayable for months, which you would have known had you bothered to read the huge amounts of whining posts below.

Oh wait, you didn't want to read all that whining.

Well, neither do we.

Early access is launch. But if you want the full launch, that's just in a few hours.

I was there and I played WoW. It was NOT unplayable. It did crash a lot, but I did get to play it a lot. You and some other people either you didn't play WoW at launch or you just forgot. WoW definitely had a much better launch than this and that was 8 years ago.

By contrast, I have not been able to play ARR at all (since Beta).

It's also only been about 2 and a half days.

And people are playing.

Just not you.

I keep hearing people compare this to WoW, but WoW was released in 2004. It is 2013 now, and square has had plenty of practice with releases.

They have a lot of practice failing a launch, looks like they put that knowledge to use.

WHY do fanboys
Sweety, I have some bad news for you, but you bought this game. You paid for it. You pre-paid for this game. You're raging over it. Just because you're pissy doesn't make you any less of a fanboy.

We can't log in because people aren't logging out. The game itself is completely playable and running quite smoothly I might add. They just need more servers or an afk kick mechanism. You can disable it in a lot of games including FFXI though, so I doubt they'll go that route.

Some aren't logging out because they'll lose their place. Others aren't logging out because they don't require sleep and haven't had any instance errors yet so they've been playing 24+ hours straight. Smiley: laugh

And I'm not logging out just cause I can...and to drive all you annoying thread starters up the wall. That Aethryte sure is pretty...could look at this allllll day.

I've been able to play ARR nearly every time I tried over the past few days, as well as run instances through Duty Finder.

WoW, however, I could not. So ... what do we do with that? It seems for every person complaining, there are plenty of people who are actually playing quite happily. It's terrible if the problems are affecting you, I agree, but maybe you need to realize that you're making blanket statements when it's not even time for bed yet.

... couldn't resist lol
#20REDACTED, Posted: Aug 26 2013 at 8:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Obvious troll is obvious. Very few people have been able to even get in after the servers first got full - the people who are there will not leave (but will just go AFK and come back later) and there are no more spots.

I'm not sure what game you are trying to play then, friend. I have been able to play XIV for 3 days now. I've had some downtime due to SE's maintenance's to attempt to fix issues, but other than that.. I've been in the game pretty much solidly. I also see quite many characters in my screen. Heck, I see them damn near everywhere. You can't swing a dead cat sith without hitting them.

Again I must ask.. are you sure you are trying to play Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 A Realm Reborn?

I don't think it's unreasonable for people to be pissed over not playing a game that was promised to them. Promising people that if they preorder they will get early access and then not delivering seems like fraudulent business practices to me. They simply have not delivered what they promised and what people paid for.

I paid for early access, I did not get it because my account was cancelled after I entered my access code and game code. And seems SE doesn't feel the need to schedule customer service people on the weekend of a big launch. That doesn't seem out of the norm for SE. I guess their business practices have just declined over the years. They did a much better job with FFXI at launch.

My experiences with ANY MMORPG that I have played have not been this horrendous. This is sad really, but I'm not pissy about it. There are other games to play. SE made promises that sounded good enough to scam me out of my money. I'll cut my losses and move on.
