I love the "entitlement" thing being bandied around.

Ya know - since when does, like, paying for goods or a service, and expecting it to work become entitlement?! On planet suck up to SE apparently it is (and guys -however much you white knight 'em on the internets they're not going to turn around and give you the sword of a thousand truths and a half naked fit bird in your mog house you know).

You take your shiny new XboxStation90000 home from the shop are you going to think you're being entitled if it doesn't work when you switch it on or when UberBlastYerBuddiesLiveNetwork is out for days at a time? God no you'd be screaming your heads off.

For SE dealing with a relaunch of an already tarnished product they NEEDED to be on their a-game... server load - fine, hell queues relatively ok - people could cope with queuing and going to jump in the shower or whatever... but this blooming random lottery of who gets carpal tunnel syndrome from repeatedly button (or mouse button) mashing the login screen trying to hit the random moment when Mercury Venus and Uranus jump into allignment and XxSephirothxX AerisDies937 logs off - that's nowhere NEAR acceptable.

I want this game to succeed - but I'm not putting subscriptions up until I can be relatively sure of a sensible login system meaning I'm going to have a chance of gameplay on any given evening - I'm damned if I'm paying £x to randomly mash a login button for 3 hours on a night.

Thats the idea **** people off till they leave and then have extra capacity from those that left..... Not a good plan when you a subscription service.

I agree we pay and we are the customer we should get a game that works. You expect to have support also not well we will get back to you when ever we get the chance support. Now their support has crashed too...

They are not new at MMO's ... FFXI at it most popular had more people than FFXIV. But I really dont think it comes down to any of it anymore. I think SE is a company on the verge of going bankrupt and they just dont have the money left to provide the service needed. I now believe they launched the game way early because they needed the money to fix these problems. Remember they can not collect till the item ships... This game was in no way ready to launch but they did anyway.. Everyone knew it was going to be disaster but this goes beyond any wildest dreams on how bad of a launch it is. There is no other explanation for not having some back up plan.

Great game that dies because the company can not stick anymore money behind it. It has happened before.

Have any of you been around for 1.0. Or any new MMO release? This definitely isn't the worst. This game is amazing. And there's nothing wrong with the game itself. The servers suck **** oh no. There's never been an MMO release without some sort of server issue. I give it at most 2 weeks. Hell even a basic online console game has issues upon launch.

Do any of you complainers work in video game programming. Or tech support? You act like fixing this ought to be so easy but I doubt you even know the first thing about it.

Point is.

If you're butthurt stop pissing and moaning, shelve the game for a month, carry on with your life (assuming you complainers had one before this considering how many people are so fixated on this) go beat tales of xillia or something and come back later.

Actually I do... I work IT for a company now. I also part owner of a internet company. My brother is a programmer and now works for BMO Harris Bank. He is also is writing a game for xbox live arcade and was owner a game company. Also many years ago my brother had offers from some of the large gaming companies because my brother wrote online rpgs which were at the time called muds. The internet company I own with several people started out as a gaming company which allowed people to play multilayer games that you were not really able to do at the time. The company eventually turned into a isp and now has evolved into a server and web hosting business... So I do understand servers and have a pretty good understanding of games and the gaming industry.

I'd be interested in hearing your brother's response to this whole debacle then.

I'm trained in programming but work in the analysis side these days. I also worked for three years in tech support. As someone who can see all sides of the issue, I'm annoyed at their customer service response while firmly believing they're scrambling in the background to get it fixed. So I'm just being patient.

He knows very little of FFxiv other than a few pics I showed him. He was over this weekend to go to the Buffett concert with me but of coarse I could not get into the game to show him anything.

Whats funny is he really does very little gaming for someone who spent a chunk of his life writing games. He basically just has this little rpg he is writing for xbox live arcade now in his spare time. He has a artist and a music guy helping him.

I myself know very little programing, I am hardware and networking. My point is I do have some understanding of what is going on and game servers because we ran some... If it were just additional servers this would have been fixed by now. The problem got worse instead of better. It is basically not free and you had to actually reserve the game to play this past weekend so their should have been less people and it got worse.

I am sure they are scrambling. I honestly dont get what is going on here. I just dont think they have a large enough team here in north America or anywhere. The whole issue in P4 was not even discovered until people started spamming the Japan forum. I think SE severely understaffed with all the losses and just cant handle whats going on. The layoffs the years of losses.
I mean this is just this year:
http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/03/square-enix-los-angeles-layoff-details-ceo-rumored-to-be-out-by/

If you search they are laying off everywhere.

Also this is last quarter losses which have actually come down but this has been going on for years. The good new is they actually predict a profit soon..

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/13/square-enix-posts-134m-fiscal-net-loss-projects-profit-for-com/

My guess is this really is a company that is understaffed and underfunded.

Can anyone guess what official clock they use to determine when to start a new window?

Like the official world clock somewhere?

I would time my Login attempt to be at the top of the minute, or 0:01, if I knew what clock they are likely using.
