I'm staying logged in all dayFollow

I logged out last night around 10:00 because I had to go to bed in order to get up for work this morning. I won't be home until around 4:00 tonight. I'm afraid to leave my computer running that long while im gone because I'm paranoid the place will burn down with my cat inside.

Otherwise I would probably be doing this too. If it takes me a while to log in tonight then I'll finally have a chance to watch Sunday's episode of Breaking Bad I suppose. This game has been stealing time from my other nonsensical jackassery.

Just to let the PS3 users know, you might want to turn off the auto shutdown before doing this, I came home to my system about to turn off after a run to the doctors office. For games it is set to 2 hours of inactivity before turning off the system. It is in the power saver settings under the setting icon on the XMB.

I have to think that the more people do this, the greater pressure it puts on SE to fix the problem.

Even if the only "fix" for right now is an auto-kick feature after 30 minutes of inactivity -- and even if that's only a temporary measure -- right now, anything to free up space on the servers is a good thing.

Until those fixes come, though, then myself and many others will be taking the approach of, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em."

No, actually, I am NOT doing the same thing. I have been playing off and on all weekend and for several hours yesterday. I have gotten 90k'd a dozen times, 1017'd for hours on end, and every other error this game can throw at me, but when I am done playing I give up my spot on the server so that someone else can finally get past that stupid 1017. It used to be called "common decency" but I guess that is a misnomer nowadays. The very few people like myself that are logging out are the only reason any of these scumbags get a chance to get in, and then when they get it they abuse it like a bunch of selfish cretins. Anyone staying logged in is a bigger part of the problem than anything else.

I'm like you Azoria, I'm logging out and taking my chances later on. I've played enough MMOs over the years decades to know that eventually it'll get fixed and I'll get my playtime in. (Though if takes too long I do hope SE does the right thing and tacks some gametime on to my subscription).

I'm very eager to play, and very psyched that in terms of the actual game itself FFXIV ARR is looking pretty damned fantastic, but if I can't get in and play for now I'll just do something else until I can. I'm not going to take up a slot for hours and hours, and prevent someone else desperate to play from doing so. I'm also too old jaded cynical experienced to expect tons of other people will do the same, but cheers to you for making that decision! \o/

Yeah, just before I ran out the door I was like, "oh wait, did I remember to turn off the auto shutdown?" I tried to fiddle with the settings but the PS3 wouldn't let me without getting off the game first, and I didn't have enough time log back on. So I'm just hoping I did remember to change that beforehand. If not, then so be it.

I've been logging out. Honestly I haven't had much problems just spamming x while reading neogaf on my phone. 20 minutes is the longest I've had to wait to get into ultros. Can't blame people for staying logged in tho.

Got in at 2:30 this morning.... guess I'll be playing before work for the time being. I logged out since I don't want to leave my PS3 on for 9 hours.

What's the Moogle Bonanza?

Only just now realizing this? I've been doing this for at least a day now because no way in heck am I trusting SE to have this issue addressed for a long while. On the upside though, I normally play during non-peak hours anyway. As long as we log in around noon-1 PM EST it seems ok.

And before anyone goes on about these players being annoying, at least they are not the set of gold farmers I already seeing taking up space on the servers. *sigh* This won't end well. And I doubt an afk timer is going to get rid of them.

ok... after reading all this, you're making me want to rush home during lunch so that i can log in... also, what can they gold farm? I thought SE put a system in place to hinder this?

Moogle Bonanza was an event from Final Fantasy XI where players could purchase up to 10 marbles and stamp them with a 5-digit set of numbers. SE held a lottery style drawing to determine winning numbers and if you had any marbles that matched the winning numbers, you would win an in-game prize. The prizes ranged from small stuff like experience point scrolls, costume items or furniture for getting 1 number correct, up to incredibly rare pieces of gear or over a hundred million gil for guessing them all right.

Back in 2006 on FFXI, I matched 4 out of 5 and won a non-sellable version of the Emperor Dragonfly's pin and the Leaping Lizard's Boots. Those would have cost me a fortune.

Rome fell because it spread itself too thin. 2 characters on 2 servers = 2 times the work. Eventually you will have to choose which one to invest time in, and you will wish you had invested the hours on the wasted character elsewhere...

Well, I wanted to get a 2nd character 'account' but with all the launch issues going on I felt it'd be more prudent to wait it out. I don't mind having another character on a different server. It's much quieter there. And honestly at this point, it doesn't matter what server I play on as long as I'm playing.

I won't be AFKing, bc I know that no matter how much I'm frustrated there are people out there that have gotten to play less than I have. Don't be a Deuchebag, don't hurt other players that don't deserve it. Rather, put pressure on SE on Twitter, FB and the Forums to implement a real queue and AFK management system, like a real big-boy MMO software company.

FFXI has neither a queue or an afk timer and I think that is successful.

Also the game does have a queue, I just tried to log into Ragnarok and I was 202 in the queue. The error is only around whilst SE are testing out their fixes for the server issues they have seen. Once they have verified the fixes, and done any other fixes and they know there will not be a server crash when they open them fully they will.

Well FFXI didn't have a queue because it was not an issue. However they did have an AFK timer... you couldn't just sit in FFXI without getting booted like you can in ARR... I never had problems logging into FFXI because too many people were online... This is a fundamentally new issue for them.

They need to buy some more servers and either open up new "worlds" or expand the existing ones with more capacity to hold the players who actually want to play. They have had months of data going into the launch, and should have known how many servers to have lined up for this. This was a poor management decision (probably in an attempt to save money.) If a store manager doesn't order enough supplies for the week, and the shelves are empty as a result... that's poor management.

I logged out last night out of decency because if I can't get in today... well I can get in tomorrow... or the next day. Who really cares if you level cap first or w/e you are worried about.

Also I find if you spam login you really aren't going to take too long unless you are loggin in right at prime time. Time to chill out and relax until the server issues are over and we can all happily level.

It is honestly the only way I have gotten to play for the past few days. You also have to wait at least 30 min to an hour after maintenance since a lot of people just wait for that as well.

As for the gold farmer, I don't know but I saw one spamming the chat in one of the towns on the Ultros server. Too bad getting in contact with SE can be such a pain. I really wanted to report it asap. I'm sure others were thinking the same. Even one of those taking up space is a huge annoyance considering the server congestion issue.

The AFK timer could be turned off by the user though, it was on by default but I always had it off. Since we have retainers in XIV (and no bazaar functionality) an AFK timer makes sense.
