*shakes head* at SE. Fence riding in 2013 is not an acceptable business practice any longer.

They're not ignoring it. You cannot go to Best Buy and buy new servers off the shelf, however.

Also, if you didn't play FFXI, welcome to a Final Fantasy MMO. Emergency Maintenance is par for the course.

^ this. I played for almost 10 years on XI and this is the norm. Get used to it and get over it already. I didnt even pay D3 until 2 weeks after the launch -KNOWING- that would happen. Im just looking forward to playing the game again after open beta.

I don't know why everyone keeps going on about the afk people being logged out. You guys do realize they will probably all log back in the second maintenance is over right? Ah well, at least there is word about them addressing the server capacity issue.

For me, I think it is a good time for a nap. I finally have some days off after 4 days of working. So I can just stay up from 6 AM to noon playing this game during the only functional hours it has. Yay third shift. If that doesn't work though, can someone tell me what JA server most NA players are playing on?

Seriously?

Did SE do **anything** during the beta periods?

I'm beginning to think they didn't start development on the "new" version of the game UNTIL the beta tests.

The combination of down time, patches, forced server closures, etc. is shaping this up to be in the Top 5 worst launches in MMO history.

Unless they do something miraculous (and soon) the critical 30-60-90 day period post release will be devastating.

One of the reasons for the patch is to clear out the AFK players. The reason things are going better on Japanese servers is that they are only logging on when they are playing - there is a natural good manners that people log out when not playing and that keeps space clear on the servers. On US/EU a large portion of the population is AFK preventing those who want to play from playing. It's like the queuing in beta for instances, the Japanese progressed because they could work together rather than feeling entitled.
