Revenue Idea for SEFollow

Here's an idea to raise a ton of quick cash.

Sell a "Skip All Cutscenes" (including new character creation) item.

Make it a perma "buff" that you could turn off if you choose or you could leave it on endlessly.

This is a Final Fantasy game, why are you playing it of you're not paying attention to the cutscenes?

Then maybe you should do that?

That was a serious question, though. The Final Fantasy series has always been beloved because of the strength of its storylines. For FFXI, all the usual "MMO" type things were simply accessories to unlocking a very deep and very satisfying series of stories. While the game series did have a few genuine innovations over the years for gameplay (the invention of Active Time Battle bars come to mind), it's really been known for it's ground breaking efforts to twist hardware into storytelling efforts. FF6 is as much remembered for having an "opera" about 3/4 of the way through as it is ATB!

If you've made 2-3 characters then yeah, I can see getting tired of the same handful of major intro cutscenes. But that's why I made my three characters in three different cities, so there's less overlap.

I guess to me skipping the cutscenes is like picking the pepperoni and cheese off a pizza. Sure, it's still pizza, but most of the flavor is gone.

I think he's implying that the cutscenes are not up to par, not that he doesn't like cutscenes.

Some are good, some are really boring or unnecessary.

I still haven't skipped any, though... just in case I miss something.

Then why miss the good ones?

I agree that the voice acting is god awful so I switched it to Japanese and it's a lot more bearable for me now.

How about a Polo shirt with the little Dalamund instead of an alligator of a horsey? Then I could wear it to work and roll my eyes at everyone who doesn't know what it is and nod knowingly at someone who does!

Actually I find the vast majority of cutscenes in video games poorly written/produced and add little, if anything, to the actual game.

I chalk up the increased use of cutscenes and voice acting to development companies thinking they're some sort of indie art houses instead of game producers.

Occasionally decent voice acting will be done (like in Skyrim) but for the most part the story/writing appears to be done by some guy they found at the nearby Starbuck's who hangs out "writing" on his MacBook.

Homer Simpson once said "I like my beer cold, my TV loud and my homosexuals flaming"..

The corollary for games would be "I like my video produced by Hollywood, my writing done by authors and my games made by **game** developers"..
