sooooo... when will we be able to play?Follow

#1 Aug 28 2013 at 7:39 AM Rating: Sub-Default
Ok, so its been more than a week. Is SE going to let us know when we will be able to play the game? (and no, I am not talking about the small minority which got the chance to enter the game and now they never log out).

I really don't get this lack of communication. Is SE going to let us know when the new servers are up and running? Is it going to be tomorrow? A week from now? A year? what?

This lack of communication is a slap in the face. Also I cant believe it is taken then so long to get new servers up and running. Last MMO early access launch I played, they had new servers up the following day, not a week later and counting.

SE announced they are adding in extra server capacity and gave an ETA of next week.

They did add servers during EA. They did plan for expansion of their hardware...they just didn't understand that the MMO market sucks right now and that people are dying for a quality MMO to play.

This was posted last night, well before the OP's thread. I suggest checking the Lodestone for announcements from SE. It's a lot easier to find there than at the official forums (where you have to scan multiple sub forums looking at timestamps) or here (where it might get buried by other threads or be posted under a subject line that's not clear).

That is true. Especially on consoles.

They are adding more servers next week so they can sell more copies of the game, not for the current login problems.

Wow, and I thought I was skeptical.

Sure, SE is a company and exists to make money, but can you really sit there and say the dev team (in particular Yoshi-P, you've seen the video, right?) doesn't feel bad about what's going on right now?
#9REDACTED, Posted: Aug 28 2013 at 8:01 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm sure he feels bad - his project launch has been a disaster, his job is probably on the line (as well as his teams) and SE will be coming through that team with a scythe in the very near future to cut costs and maximize profits.

Ummm I don't know if its a coincidence of your trick really works but it got me in tonight. I can't do in the spam method but nothing happened, so I stayed on the character creation screen for about 5 or 6 minutes the next thing I knew when I hit play to put me in the queue

the XIV launcher also has all the updates on the situation. There's been 10 already, so they are communicating with us.

This may be worse than the average mmo launch, but forum dwellers are behaving and over reacting like they always do. Game is doomed. Blah blah.

To be fair, and as one of the 'game is doomed' people from 1.0, in that case it turned out to be true. It's not unfair for people to be upset or even expressing downright rage. Taking hours to log in knowing that there are a large portion of the players online afk, will have that effect on people.

The static is there for a reason and it's warranted. Was it just that the open beta was too short? Was it just that they gave JP players twice as many servers as the rest of the world? Pre-order codes anyone? Was it just 3102 or 90k? Maybe it was the return of 3102 and 90k? Perhaps it was the 2 days it took them to respond to these issues when they first surfaced? Could it be the lack of server capacity? Mayhaps it's 1017 and how SE is dealing with it?

It was any and all of those things. There are a lot of reasons to be upset about launch. People paid for a product, in some cases twice; and it's not working... again. Can we really blame them for needing to vent?

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

First they blocked people from logging in.
Then they blocked people from certain servers.
Now they've blocked people from buying the game.

The next step is to spray us with special Square Enix brand Final Fantasy XIV: ARR amnesia gas, forcing us to forget the game exists.

Ya, I'd say this is a worse than normal launch. At least the game is great!

Also, if you're really feeling so butt hurt, roll on a less crowded server. Durandal has given me zero problems, i log in and out with nary a glitch. The only 1017 i see is the exp for finding a new area on my fisher.

Except that it is just 2 days after official launch... And the game is working fine on a lot of servers - I understand people are impatient to play, but if it is really that frustrating, maybe they should roll a character on a different server. A week's progress is no biggie, especially if you haven't been able to play anyway. Legacy chars are different people may have months on them, but There is a simple solution for anyone who is raging about this. Just go to a server that isn't borked.

Should SE have put more servers in NA if they were serious about regionalizing? Yes! They should have also had a data centre on the west coast of NA and one on mainland europe, but that is a whole nother story

Really though, i think their biggest mistake was having regional servers at all. Worldwise servers smoothe out peak loads.

I was all gung-ho about the region based servers because of the latency issues, but I'm beginning to agree with this. You want a server with a healthy population so you can do things in groups, but you don't want 4999 people playing at the same time as you because it's so damn crowded.
