Hey guys just making a thread for tips and tricks you find along the way that may be able to help other people out as they make their journey through Eorzea. I have also created a Youtube channel for just this based around Final Fantasy XIV so check it out if you are stuck or looking for some entertainment! I cover mostly final boss fights from dungeons and trials, I am lvl 50 and as I encounter new content I get it up as soon as I can. Enjoy some that I have created already, whether you are stuck on them or curious to see what lies ahead!

Garuda (Hard Mode): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsxNut1t-HM

Ifrit (Hard Mode): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khoQQTY05vQ

Behemoth FATE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnMfpQufoD8

Dragoon Macros and Rotation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9jHweABuiU

Channel: http://www.youtube.com/SafehouseGamingTS

Anyways what little tricks have you discovered along the way that has made things easier for you?

Quests requiring item turn in... in pop up on PC right click item space and it pulls from your inv. This is mostly useful for non-key items since it doesn't always open to the tap with that item.

Healers should learn that your most important upgrade is your weapon as the magic damage listed on the weapon is part of the cure calculations. It's a reason why someone may be struggling in Halati doing maybe 180 cures (because they stick with a level 15 weapon with 3 MND on it) versus someone doing 240-260 (because they're using the highest level one they can).

The difference between a level 15 and 20 is substantial even if neither have any MND on them whatsoever (which isn't really possible).

An important thing I have found is making sure you get your UI how you like it from the beginning. Really make sure you resize/move stuff around til you are happy with it!

Inventory and Armory Chest Auto Sort is unintuitively under System Settings > Character Configuration. It doesn't seem to sort items gained prior to ticking the boxes and isn't ticked by default.

On ps3 l1 + r3 turns on mouse mode. Amazing for resizing the map and chat windows if you don't have a mouse. The cursor moves slowly though.

Oh very nice... I'll have to share this with Crystal- she had some issues healing Halatali the other day... this might be the issue. She's level 22 using a level 15 "magic" weapon from one of the lower dungeons.

I found out last night that Limit Break is shared between the entire group... So only one person gets to use it when the bar is full, then it re-fills again for the entire group.

You're supposed to strategize and decide who will use the limit break and when prior to entering the dungeon.

Who knew?

Yeah that becomes an issue when your party has no patience and refuses to talk about stuff prior. As a healer, I have never used it. I have seen THM and GLA and LNC use them though... pretty cool.

On the PS3

L1 + Select = UI off the screen
L1 + Start = Taking a Picture

For a few days I was just using L1 + Start and getting nasty pictures of the UI interface. I was giddy as a schoolgirl when I found out how to remove all the clutter

You can turn of the UI and still battle quite well.

You have memorized your basic attack rotation hotkeys, right?

Try turning off your UI and and entering 1st person mode for battle. Like Skyrim, but better.

How do you customize macros when you play with controller? I can only drag actions and abilities given to me. Its difficult especially when youre a WHM in a PT lmao

When you have a HUD element selected with the controller, tapping L3 will resize it. Ctrl + Home also does this.

Getting Custom Macros to your cross-bar is a frustrating challenge if you only have a controller. My only tip is that you need to use the "Y" button, sorry Triangle for PS3, and that will give the option to hotbar the User Macro.

But really, save yourself a ton of trouble and buy a $10 USB mouse for your PS3. You will be much better off for menus and inventory management.

Titan hits hard. You had your work cut out for you as healer. I personally would have booked it a lot farther from those aoe lines and circles. You never know what the server sees. I'm surprised you didnt get hit more often being so close (like the bard).

Just added a video on how to do Batraal. Tough boss in a really tough dungeon. Even the mini bosses you need to know how to do otherwise you will fail. Got videos on them coming soon though so stay tuned and watch the Batraal fight (lvl 44) if you are nearing it!

If you are thinking of doing the Dzemael Darkhold I would highly recommend you watch the videos(I have all 3 bosses covered) before you go in because that is one insanely rough dungeon. Also just finished the Garuda video which everyone should see before entering that Trial! It is becoming infamous for being one **** of a tough fight. You NEED a good party and the whole group to have a good knowledge on the fight. Anyways links below so check it out!

Yeah I have been having a heap of trouble lately logging in as well and I'm on the JP servers. Hopefully they get it all worked out and running smoothly soon. Also just hit 50 and did the first 8 man dungeon! Vid below :D

I'm trying to get Brayflox's Longstop done so I can do primal Titan and unlock my SMN35 quest (Titan-egi I'm assume).

Used the Duty Finder and ended up in a couple parties that already partway done with the dungeon. I learned you get credit for the goals completed by the group up to that point.

Still haven't completed Brayflox since in both cases it was the tank that had bailed, though we did manage to get the final boss down to about 35% with just a BRD, SCH, and me on SMN. T. Carb did fine holding hate til it went down. Just too much dmg even with both the SCH and I practically spamming Physick.

For fresh characters, ignore the low level quests in other cities on your first job. Save them for the jobs you'll be leveling in those cities. Still do them later, of course, but don't waste a level 1 quest on a level 20 character.

For some reason it always seems to be the tanks that leave and they are the hardest to replace! If you get a good tank for Brayflox it is a really easy run but can be a nightmare otherwise xD

In addition to entering gamepad mouse mode with L1 + R3, you can use L2 for left click, and R2 for right click.

Also, to zoom in or out on your character, hold L1 and tilt the right analog stick up or down. You don't have to be in gamepad mouse mode for this to work. This also works to zoom in and out on the map window. So basically, L1 + Right Analog = scroll wheel.

Level alchemy to 15 to get Tricks of the Trade. 20 free CP at random intervals will make or break your attempt to get quality up on items.

Between Tricks of the Trade, Inner Quiet, and Rumination, you can get a step up a lot of recipes.

When crafting (in case it matters, I have only advanced in Goldsmithing) pay attention to the colors on your orb. Red gives you a boost in quality when doing Basic Touch or Standard Touch (better for the boost). Rainbow gives you a bigger boost. Avoid black for Touch, and instead do something else to pass it by.

I try to save Steady Hand for when I am dumping my CP into Touch toward the end after I have only 1 Synth left to complete the item (safer) since typically I have an abundance of durability as opposed to CP which is easy to use up even if you bork a couple Synths.

I prefer Manipulation over Master's Mend since it saves a little extra CP and still gives enough durability to use up all your CP.

Great Strides will give you 3 turns to lock in the Touch bonus, so I try to leave some room for Synth or save my Steady Hand and/or Manipulation so I can throw those on in hopes of being able to apply the Great Strides to a colored orb for a combined Touch bonus. Due to the CP cost for Great Strides you never want to use it with Basic Touch, and can essentially break even with Standard Touch if you have to use it with a white orb.

It's generally best to use Inner Quiet near the get go since it doesn't seem to expire, and you can get the Control bonus going off the bat with each successful Touch to make them more effective, and then I try to do some Synth just to knock it out unless I see a colored orb.

Tricks of the Trade can be used whenever the material is in good condition, which will appear red. Rainbow is excellent, red is good, white is normal and black is poor.

I'd love to see a list of macros for WHM. I currently only have one, but it's been a huge help:
/ac "cure" <mo>

This will target whomever your mouse is hovering over (be it the character or even just their name in the party list). I like to keep the tank as the target, and this allows me to toss off cures without having to tab away.

I also found and stole the following for when I have to run around in town or for quests:

/ac "Sprint" <me>
/wait 30
/ac "Sprint" <me>

Nice, I like your sprint Macro. I can't see any reason not to just replace Sprint with that Macro on my hotbar.

WHM/Conjurer Macros:

/ac "Swiftcast" <me>
/ac "Cure III" <t>

I've added Swiftcast to a couple of my rarely used spells and replaced the spell with the Macro. It seems it's an emergency situation only to cast Cure III.

I was not willing to attach Swiftcast to Repose though, because I want Repose to fire off on the first click. I manually hit Swiftcast first if needed.

For WHM, I also stacked:

/ac "Fluid Aura" <me>
/ac "Shroud of Saints" <me>

And for Conjurer it's a whole stack of cross-class defense abilities:

/ac "Fluid Aura" <me>
/ac "Shroud of Saints" <me>
/ac "Second Wind <me>
/ac "Foresight" <me>
/ac "Featherfoot" <me>
/ac "Awareness" <me>
/ac "Keen Flurry" <me>

When it's bad news in a solo situation or quest instance, I just spam that button until all the abilities fire off.

On Conjurer I also stacked

/ac "Virus" <t>
/ac "Stone" <t>

So that I debuff at the start of every batttle. The cooldown timer on Virus keeps it from recasting right away.

Nice, totally stealing this.

Been using this on my LNC but works for any DD if you have access to the skills:

/ac "Raging Strikes" <me>
/wait 1
/ac "Internal Release" <me>
/wait 1
/ac "Bloodbath" <me>

I use it as my "Oh sh@t!" heal.

/ac "Sprint" <me>
/wait 30
/echo RECAST SPRINT MACRO

It's good for when you're feeling lazy ;)

Nice, totally stealing this.

Been using this on my LNC but works for any DD if you have access to the skills:

/ac "Raging Strikes" <me>
/wait 1
/ac "Internal Release" <me>
/wait 1
/ac "Bloodbath" <me>

I use it as my "Oh sh@t!" heal.

That's cool... can you do macros on a PS3? I'm curious if I should be writing them too.

I'd love to have a macro that takes advantage of a Freecure Cure II instead of a regular Cure I when it's up, but I'm not sure there's a clever way to set that up. My kingdom for an "if" statement...

I would imagine so, can't say for sure as I'm on PC. I was using this one with my GLD:

/mk attack1 <t>
/wait 1
/p Pulling now, attack #1!"
/wait 1
/ac "Shield Lob" <t>
/wait 2
/ac "Flash" <t>

You know what, I thought I wanted that too until FF12. After I completely automating my party with IF > THEN statements, I got bored.

Yes. Look under User Macros. After you write a Macro, name it, and select an Icon, use the Triangle button to set it to your cross-bar.

I recently started putting

/macroicon "Ability Name"

as the first line, thanks to a tip from a poster here. This sets the visual for the icon to match whatever skill you name (which BTW, does not have to be the first actual ability in the macro.)

Example:

/macroicon "Mercy Stroke"
/ac "Raging Strikes" <me>
/ac "Mercy Stroke" <t>

This will appear as Mercy Stroke on your hotbar, and tell you the cooldown and availability of Mercy Stroke, instead of Raging Strikes.

Interesting info. I'm planning to test this a bit. Thanks for the tip!

Yea I would be interested to know if this is true even though I suspected it otherwise what is the difference in staffs? Really +1 mnd does not make a huge difference so other stats had to come into play with different staffs.

Edit: I did look it up and others are saying the same thing... Cool....
