Ok, I'm addicted to crafting. Seriously. I freaking love it. Just the way that the HQ system works, and how crafts are intertwined but most mats can still be bought from vendors, the whole thing is just perfect imo. I've already level armorer to 25, goldsmith and weaver to 21, and blacksmith to 10. I've pretty much foregone my Marauder for the time being because I'm just having too much fun crafting. So far my favorite story has been crafting a cotton kurta for the GC supply turn-in. Two times in a row I crafted my normal procedure, only to end up with an HQ version when quality was like 15-25%. The cool thing is, one was actually an upgrade for me, and the other I turned in an got a pretty decent bonus which netted me an extra 3k xp and 100 seals. Huzzah for HQs!

Anyone else out there liking the crafting? Post some of your favorite stories or tips or whatever else.

With my limited playtime I have not made it a focus yet since EA started... I have been focusing what little time I do get on my LNC. I was kind of disappointed to find out that I cannot meld materia as a culinarian... I'm the only profession that cannot do this!

I may need to level some other craft now too I guess.

I'm the total opposite. In every MMO I've played I've only picked gathering professions or nothing at all. Well, except Fishing. I always max out Fishing.

Yup, my first class to reach 15 was actually carpenter. I have been doing those daily gc turn ins and when I get an HQ I feel like squealing. I took a break from crafting to get as far as I could into story quests and will be picking it up again this weekend. I hope to have carpenter to 25 weave to 20 and the gatherers as close to 25 as I can....maybe not fishing that high just yet. Those bonuses are insane...helped me reached serpent sergeant second class and almost at first class.

I have been having a blast crafting away as well. My only craft so far is 20 WVR but it is great leveling it in tandem with my 21 BTN. Everything I have needed I have gathered and/or farmed. Haven't purchased anything yet.

BTN gathers materials for WVR who HQ's equipment that makes my gathering better and also some gear that increases crafting stats. It is fairly easy starting gathering with BTN for HQ base materials, using those HQ base materials and turning them into HQ recipe items, then take the HQ recipe items and make HQ gear!

So far my favourite piece of crafted gear is an HQ hat I made for BTN. It has a good chunk of perception on it and looks cool to boot! Loving it!

Crafting and gathering are quite fun! The intertwining of mats from the various crafting classes well done, you have to work on the various classes to gather multiple times, but then again, you can just by them mats if you'd like. The gathering part really gets you out in the world, furthermore, being that nodes aren't shared makes it a lot less frustrating when gathering. Well done SE.

On a side note,is there a way to change the quantity of an item being made? For example if I wanted to make X amount of maple logs, can I change it to X or do I have to do each log individually?

I haven't messed with crafting or gathering yet, but I want to. I've done a little fishing in phase 4 but that's it. I wanted to try to get Dragoon to 50 first, but I may dabble in gathering and crafting before that happens. I just enjoy being in the world no matter what im doing!

you can by using quick craft but you get liek a third of the xp you would get from doing it by hand and has a cap of 60 items.

Its great if you just want to make a stack of buff food to sell. load er up and go make dinner or something.

You can get levels easily by just having the class unlocked and being part of a GC. You will get other class exp depending on the things you turn in for the daily provisions.

On a second note...are img bb code tags different on this forum? Always thought they were [img][/img] but doesn't seem to be working.

The cap is 99. And as far as I can tell, you gain the same amount of XP as you would if you straight crafted with no quality improvement. It's incredibly useful for making a ton of low level stuff like copper/bronze ingots. Get the mats, set it to make 99, and go do laundry or something.

Getting weaver to 15 is essential for every crafter. You will get rich with goldsmith. Choose crafting jobs that complement your class. I'm THM (Black Mage) so I went weaver to make my robes and goldsmith to work on my rods. And along the way make some silver stuff. And considering I just shelled 7500 gil for 5 units of black dye, I am thinking alchemy is the way to financial future.

Also, playing the markets is essential. Swap your prices if your goods arent selling. Lowball and undercut. Buy stuff that is essential to quests but is not easily found. Then find the shop where that is sold (usually 3 feet from the market board) then put it up on the market for 3x what you paid.

oh? grilled trout told me max of 60.

and yeah that's what i meant though. if you're straight grinding the item to sell its worth it. if you want to do that for xp its not. an extra like 20 seconds for 2/3 more xp is worth it.

It's possible that you might have only had the materials to make 60 of them, hence the 60 item max. I can reaffirm Bartel's statement regarding the 99 quick synth item max.

I believe you're asking about the observe skill for crafting?

If so.. I would like to be enlightened on it's use. Up until lvl 25 Armorer, I still haven't found a situation where observe would be useful.

Its to change the Condition of the item, if Condition is "good" you can observe is and it could change to "excalent" or back to "normal" or if the condition is "poor" you can observe it and it will change to "normal" it comes in handy when tryin to HQ some times.

Yep, this is exactly what I was going to post. Also, pro-tip for those new to crafting, the lev. 15 skill from weaver, Careful Synthesis,is one of the best skills in the game. It's a 100% success chance, and gives about 5 less progress than what standard synth does. So if you only have 10% durability left, you are guaranteed to complete the craft if your progress takes it to 100%. Rapid synthesis, the 15 armorer skill, is also incredibly useful for anything that has a very high progress bar (90+). It is basically like a triple standard synth, but at only 40% success. If you combine it with steady hand however, it bumps up to 70% and becomes incredibly valuable for saving progress for HQ attempts.

Just some food for thought.

From my experience, I think it is in this ratio, generally:

1 : 0.5 : 0.25
manual with quality improvement : manual with no quality improvement : Quick Synth

You do get nearly double the xp when manual crafting with no quality improvement as opposed to quick synthing.

I'm a crafting addict as well. Haven't even gotten around to doing the starting dungeons yet, too busy harvesting and crafting. I would add the Leatherworker skill Waste Not is great for when you are trying to bump up your HQ percentage. It cuts the durability hit in half so you can get twice the touch attempts. I'm also a big fan of Great Strides, doubles the effect of your next touch action and lasts for three turns so you don't have to use the touch right away.

Even at low levels, you're not getting the most out of your war and magic jobs if you aren't crafting. I've got some rare/ex gear from boss fights and coffers and such, but I'm also wearing some HQ'd stuff I crafted myself that you can't buy from any NPCs. Just rocking GSM right now, too, and it's been totally worth it. My highest job is actually fishing.

Fishing's insanely easy to level up at this point, so I'd say if you care about fishing, go do it now before they nerf it later on. No other job gets that much exp that much of the time with that little gil investment.

Which classes can Careful Synthesis be shared between? This sounds incredibly useful-- thanks for the info.!
