So. We had 220.000 concurrent logins recently, which is pretty close to the potential maximum of 50 servers * 5000 people per server = 250.000.
Right now it's prime time in Japan, and I do not even have the slightest chance to log in. People are pissed left and right because they can not play
the game, while in 1.0 they were pissed because they played the game. Only time will tell, but for now it looks like Yoshi pulled off a small miracle.

He's doing good for now, BUT...

You have to realize one small thing here. A lot of people are going to quit over not being able to play. If they would have fixed everything properly or had more servers, or allowed more logins, then they could have had an even BIGGER permanent playerbase.

Call me overly optimistic, but I actually doubt that many will leave because they have to wait a week to play.
Think about it: that would imply they are leaving because they can't play a game which they would love to
play so much that they throw a totally irrational fit because they can't play it RIGHT NOW. Now that would
be a little illogical, wouldn't it?

Nobody does NOT watch the summer blockbuster because the cinema is constantly booked out.

Perhaps, but the 5000 max isnt going to change per server. It's their connection limit, and as i've come to understand, more than that will cause trouble for other people in the server. So in the long run, people are going to keep being locked out.

Dont get me wrong, i love the game so far. But eventually people are going to get fed up about having to fight over a spot (not to mention the whole not logging out when they do)

Why that? With new servers opening up on monday, many will simply move to the new ones.
That's how it is in every single booming MMO, isn't it?

Ah. Perhaps I should clarify. I am under the assumption that moving to one of the new servers
will be possible free of charge as soon as they open up. Anything less and I would be severely
disappointed with SE.

I've come to understand that Yoshi is a reasonable man. So I expect him to not disappoint me.

Keep in mind that current server capacity isn't really the problem. The bigger issue is with all the servers so concurrently full, the duty finder was overloaded and crashing the game. That is being fixed, which will allow login restrictions to be lifted.

It's not even really that. The duty finder servers were 1 per region and didn't expect the servers to fill up as quickly as they did (if at all considering 1.0 numbers). I think they're splitting the regions themselves into 2 or 3 clusters to lessen the load.

Plus, considering previous posts on the subject it isn't that the servers can't handle more than 5K people because they can and were tested specifically for it. It's beyond 700~ people with 300~ fights taking place in a zone and over 5K people that lag begins to really happen noticeably, not that they can't handle the load.

I don't think its irrational to be to be annoyed that after one week people still cannot even log into their preferred servers let alone even create characters after paying for their service. I got early access to the title screen/lobby and that's about it. Getting a lame apology and watching Yoshi cry like a ***** is not enough, neither is receiving a couple of extra "free" days on top of what we were supposed to get to start this up. Nothing has been mentioned on how (or when) transfers are going to work and they won't boot people afk. Whenever the additional servers come online, will the only recourse be to occupy new worlds rather than trying to get into servers where people know their friends are in but cannot enter due to lockouts from day 1? I'm sure the game is great judging from everyone's comments who could get in, but this launch was a joke.

I think its good to ask here. Does anyone know how server transfers are going to work when these new servers open?

Honestly this launch is right in line with just about every other game with online functionality -- from Final Fantasy XI, to XIV v1.0, to Diablo III -- they always have days worth of disconnections and server outages, and pages worth of fans ranting about the many ways it was the worst launch ever, "a total joke," etc. etc. Certainly, companies need to learn from their mistakes, but players also need to learn that there will always be mistakes. :P

Don't expect there to be a flood of new servers. I'm sure SE has observed the MMO "boom and bust" that happens with every game at release.

FF XIV will be no different; the huge crush of players attempting to log on now will greatly diminish, especially when the 30 day free period is up and a large number of players decide the game isn't for them and/or have already finished the content.

With people already hitting Level 50 and doing end game content, the pace fro new content will have to be blistering to maintain a stable population.

The number of people willing to subscribe month after month for raiding or out of the sheer love of FF will not be enough to sustain a fraction of the current server base.

I expect SE to toss a handful of new servers, take their lumps for the next 4 weeks about people not being able to log in and then re-evaluate where the game stands from a FINANCIAL standpoint.

That's the point most gamers miss - they argue from an emotional perspective when nothing anyone (even Yoshi) wants, dreams or wishes matters a hill of beans if it doesn't make $$ sense to the CE suits.

For comparison look at GW2 - I burned out pretty quickly but it's doing well by constantly churning out new content; they can do that as the cash shop approach is bringing massive amounts of $$, which allows for a healthy development team.

There hasn't been a successful subscription MMO launched in years - it will be interesting to see if FF XIV can break that trend.

I think the term "mistakes" at this point is a little shy of reality. They were completely remiss in their forecasting and subsequent network deployment. I can see periodic maintenance during the first couple of weeks to fix exploits, quest bug etc. The fact is however that many of us have simply been unable to log in since the REAL launch date of the 24th. This isn't a mistake, it is negligence.

The other possibility is that they expected the volume but the business decided to go short on servers as opposed to overspend up front and shut them down later. From a pure business perspective it may make sense but when you factor in customer satisfaction its a **** poor way to do business.

What's you're point? It's human nature to be mad and irrational when your told one thing, but then get something else.

I think it stinks and they're ruining the title over it.

I'm rather skeptical about how good the improvements will be if lat night was any indication. Last night when Odin spawned in Central shroud and half the server came to participate it was horrible. I was already in central shroud questing but dear god the lag was so bad im shocked the server didnt burn up. it was a minute + delay for me to do any actions.
