Sick and tired of fate grinding...Follow

#1 Aug 31 2013 at 9:57 AM Rating: Default
I have to say before I rant, I enjoy the game, think nothing less. Yet Experience is a joke in htis game. From level 20 onwards. You get a camp, that may give you say 10-15% of your xp for a level, and all you have left is maybe a dungon you have not done, class quest or story quest. Doing all this you may hit say 40% of a level.
The rest is fate grinding. Often by the time you get there its 50% done.
Honestly I'm just sick of it. Extremly dissapointed by the lack of quests.
As I am a high level miner/goldsmither, I get to discover all the camp levels. Yet maybe 3-5 quests sometimes 8-10 per camp, but will only give you 20% MAX XP of a level.
Sick of it.
Love the game.
Thoughts?

FATE grinding sucks. You just sit there and stare at the map until a FATE pops then run to it and repeat. You shouldn't have trouble getting there on time, but... it's the best EXP in the game and it's miserable IMO. Even mob/camp grinding of FFXI and 1.0 was better.

Wow, I have kind of the opposite problem. I'm already level 33 and I just finished Toto Rak. I'm so far ahead in terms of levels compared to story quest, that I completely stopped even doing regular quests unless they award lots of gil. Have you been keeping up on your hunting log? Did you try any Behests? Just doing normal stuff (and no behests on main class) I've been considerably ahead of the storyline. I did a lot of fates at lower levels for seals, so maybe that's why.

Yesterday I read a post on the official forums where someone complained that there are far too many quests
and that those quests take up far too much time. Go figure.

But on a more serious note: OP, I think you should slow down. Nobody forces you to level as quickly as you
can to reach some imaginary "endgame stuff". Why do you whip yourself to do something you don't like to?
If you hate fate grinding, stop fate grinding. Isn't it as simple as that?

My second character I was able to get to 20 w/o doing a single side quest. I mob grinded the dude to 10 w/o even stating the story-line stuff. Was actually pretty quick and fun especially with the xp hat. Obviously, I completed the job specific quests and the dyes quest cause pugs should not wear purple ;)

Bartel, what do you mean by Behests?

I have to have some bug, its making me go nuts. How the feck am I haveing this type of problem???

How can people complain about to many quests???

It's making me sick, when people can't "relate" to OP. Im not whining for the sake of it!!!

All guildhests/dungons/class quests/main story quests are done. All camps are cleared. Only thing is left is levequests, which I used for goldsmithing as I'm sick of grinding fates. When I see a Guildhest of level 30 that awads me 2k XP when I need to do 180k XP, is simply a joke.

Im in no rush to level, really I am not, otherwise I wouldnt have ACN 15, ARC 8, GSM 38, miner 33, wvr 20.

All I want to do is XP to build up some allowances for minning as it's hell on earth from level 30. But when it takes me 4 hours for one level im getting sick of it.

#9REDACTED, Posted: Aug 31 2013 at 12:07 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I dont feel I'm rushing, try to read my post, instead of insta reply. If I tell you it takes 4hours for one level, I think somethings wrong dont you?

Not really man. I would say its an error on your part with knowing what to do this game is saturated with quests! Events and stuff to do you would have to be intentionally avoiding all of it.

Wow, realy...You think I would come to forums and complain about a game I love for the sake of it. I havn't avoided jack ****** The only thing I can think of is my main story line which is at lvl 29 and I am level 30. MAYBE JUST MAYBE the main story line should be ahead that unblocks quests...Hell knows

Calm down, friend. You'd get better advice if you didn't come off as a total tool. The problem is people here have a hard time relating to your issue, because we accept that this is what the game is. We knew it before we even starting playing it. I'm surprised I am still having quests to do at 33, but I keep on going. FATE, guildhests, guildleves, etc..

This is what we signed up for, basically

No, actually. I think that's pretty good. Wait til you're in your 40's and you'll struggle to get a quarter of a level in that amount of time.

I know you have plenty of quests for your first job to 50. But what about your second? I've pretty much done all of the quests in Coerthas so I probably won't have any quests from 35-41 range.

I don't think you mentioned your hunting log. I just finished the 3rd one on my 25 CNJ. Completing the final entry got me 10k and completing the whole log granted 20k. It's a huge xp well.

4 hours for one level is like heaven for me. Back on FFXI it would take me 6 hours just to find a group to level haha.... Before all the new patches etc..

@OP
My intention was not to attack you; the "problem" is just that noone here shares your problem.
And honestly, I think noone has a clue about what brought you into that strange situation.

Yes you will need to be doing a lot of FATEs to power level, staggering with dungeons and leves.

If you don't care about power leveling, why not just do what you like to do in the game? Sometimes I kick down my boots on a table or a mushroom or a rooftop with my Tiny Rat and soak it in, enjoying the journey.

If you're bored with FATEs, do more dungeons. The only reason I haven't done them over and over is because I plan on doing them more with other jobs, and my #1 goal is not to burn myself out.

The storyline leaves some to be desired. I like it plenty, but there are little things like Mother Miounne giving the standard new adventurer reply after you become the envoy for example if there isn't a quest to do. I would be happy with more quests even if it's too many. Far better than not enough.

And I bet they will be releasing more quests with future patches!

I will say crafting can be quite a calming experience, and fun, especially when it becomes profitable. It makes a good pit stop in between quests to snag some gil, make some new items, put em up on the board and see what's for sale that you might get a deal on.

The thing I miss is enemy special drops. They only drop crafting materials. It would be nice if not all good things had to come from a treasure chest, and you might get surprised once in a while. Cause in older FF games if there weren't super rare ultra awesome enemy drops there's no reason for me to play to max level. I like that you can find treasure in leves though.

Oh and I really hope they put a card game in. FF8's card game was so fun, and if we could card duel this game would never get old for me.

I haven't got to end game yet, but it seems like it's not that hard and I am just hoping they don't throw out all the best stuff like candy.

Also to mention.. if you're over 30, you are obviously over half way to level cap within the first week of the game being open to the public. So don't think it's slow.. but if you dislike the way the path takes you there, then you'll really hate leveling in this game I'm afraid.

No.

I played FFXI where you'd grind exp in exp parties and it took a lot more time to exp than in FFXIV so far. This is blazingly fast compared to that.

But yeah, I haven't done any fate grinding. The tremendous majority of exp on my main job has just come from doing story, job, levemete, and random side quests.

4 hours for one level is insanely fast. this is a serious question here by why do people think it should be faster to gain one level? is this truly because everyone came from wow where they made leveling extremely simple? where is this coming from?

Guildhests i absolutely loved. Plus netted me a ton of EXP as well. Same with the dungeons.

For crafting, the leve's actually give a decent amount of EXP and Gil too.

Go figure out EXP parties with some friends? I personally think you're wrong. You maybe high level already so that could be the problem, but following the story line gives you loads of EXP + the other quests... There is plenty to go around.

Wasn't it mentioned in a live letter or a Yoshida quote about there being enough quests(that aren't leves) to level 2-3 jobs to 50? Not sure how long I'll have this quest hub at 45 before I get a red story quest and need to grind stupidly boring FATEs as either dungeon queues take forever as DPS or people in the FC aren't either high enough level or don't need dps :P
