Problem is, they talked about 400k players, so they must have set their sights on that server capacity.

They didn't pay attention to WoW history. WoW had over 15 million for a good long time.

It would not be a big surprise if they actually sold 1 million copies of the game.

They were not prepared. I remember when WoW ran into this wall, 24 hours, new servers were sprouting left and right. They went out an rushed the equipment overnight to get the capacity increased as quickly as possible. Same scenario for DnD online, so this is not new in the MMO business model, underestimation is a critical error. Shoot, even Rift has a 2 day problem.

This is a week now, early release was the big sign on the wall, but they didn't read it.

EQ had that pop up that told you that you have been in the game for a long time.

If you didn't click a reply, it auto logged you out.

Wow I'm surprised you cannot get on yet. I'm on Excalibur (which is always full), and I was able to sign on for the first time around midnight. Today was actually my worst day trying to login. Either way they are going to have maintenance on tuesday. Hopefully it fixes the servers, but at the very least it will kick out everybody.

5000 for each server. After that the server just refuses the connection and you get the 1017 error.

But there is also the log in server that handles every server's characters, so that's the one that is having issues when you get errors right when pressing start and trying to get the server list. It handles traffic of all the players, not just those on a single server.

Are they running this game on a 4 year old laptop? 5000 per server lol

I'm pretty sure the stormrage server in wow has around 20k characters (and is old as dirt) and these guys can do 5000....what a joke.

20K active at any one time, or 20k total created, I think it is the latter. The great thing about FFXIV is you don't need 20k created characters. Since my one character can rock out any job/class, I don't need a million alts. Each FFXIV can have 5000 active players per server which is about even for WoW active player limit per server.

Except its not even because WoW can handle all its players

Tried 4 am too and no go, I just want to check to see if there is a problem with my disconnect too,... I dont think anyone is logging off anymore.. dont think any chance for anyone to get on anymore except for the few people that get disconnected like what happened to me...

Staying logged-in is a d1ck move... and you know it. Selfishness son, selfishness.

You know it's true. At least I have Tetris... and college football.

**** move is SE limiting logins. Blame SE not the players. You have lots to learn if you blame players.

There are a lot of players complaining that I personally feel are a just a tad jealous of the people that have been able to play. Yes it's an issue but there's no stopping people from doing it - they managed to get on and other people didn't. Raw deal but suck it up. I've been logging off and logging back on every day, it's just taken a little bit of perseverance.

Or luck... I tried for 3 hours straight yesterday and never got on and still came back and tried every 15 or 20 minutes after that few times and never got on.. I got in the queue 3 times and was booted.

No it does stink that people are staying in not logging off but I understand why

Here is the problem this creates now lets say 50 percent of the people normally log off when they are done playing and this allows new people in the game... Now those people are not logging off that means SE needs even more capacity because those people are not logging off anymore. Just makes the problem worse.

Also this is not going away Wednesday no way... THey cant even get the log in servers working right.. I got a feeling there server software is not very scalable...
