By that i mean in FFXI unless you looked at a guide you pretty much had no idea what all the stuff you could craft in your craft was. However is crafting in XIV consist of only the things you see in the crafting log? If so thats rather small Id say less than 50 items per crafts. FFXI had LOTS per craft also do people actual;lt shout for ppl to craft stuff in this game? (im just wondering how important being a crafter can be) because I cant imagine someone shouting for a crafter when they could just take a week to level the craft themselves. Unlike in FFXI were that wasnt possible for everyone because you had to be insanely rich to level a craft.

Dude, what the heck are you on a bout, there are 70+ recipe just in my 46-50 range goldsmith... And I can craft 2 stars recipe but not sure if others can, they require hefty craftsmanship and control (I can do both).

I don't know where to start.... think of the crafting log as the recipe list in other MMOs. Just because they tell you what is needed to make a certain item doesn't mean it's inferior to a system that basically requires you to look up a 3rd party resource to progress. I took a waltz through Ul'dah this evening and saw plenty of people shouting for high level crafters.

Crafting is essentially a math mini-game. I like math mini-games in general, and I like FFXIV's crafting. I've got my GSM up to 21 now, and it went by pretty amazingly quickly and, with mining, didn't cost a lot of gil. This is in contrast to FFXI where crafting was relatively boring, largely random, often frustrating, slow to level, and not fun. I had a few 75 jobs before I quit playing FFXI back in '07, but I never got into crafting at all in it. Another thing I'm liking is that with 21 GSM and CNJ going through the 20s, I'm able to HQ stuff that I can actually use.

So I guess it just depends on your personal preferences.

I love the crafting logs that make crafting a little easier -- It's not easy, though. There's a lot to it, especially if you're gathering on your own and making your own base materials. THAT gets complex as hell.

Yes. This.
I was leveling goldsmithing, then needed to mine stuff, realized I needed other materials from Blacksmith and Armor.... lol. Best to take them all to 15 at least, lol.

It will be faster to buy materials from the market board or from the independent sellers. independent sellers are often cheaper than the market boards. Getting 1 crafting skill up high will make crafting your second skill a lot easier because you'll be able to port abilities from the first.

You also get an exp bonus when your main is higher than the one you're leveling.

I am under the impression that there are also secret precipices you can find. I think, at least some of them you get through the Grand Companies.

There are no secret recipes. The majority of recipes are toward the end 46-50 when you get AF gears for DoH/DoL and complex parts/materials/DoW/DoM gears.

I started leveling blacksmith. This lead into gold smiting, then leather and wood. Lastly cloth craft. This is only up to lvl 25. I wanted to make all recipes as I leveled. Gold smithing, while not my first choice did see to be the easiest to lvl after 11. My goal was get to 19 for locking the quest. 11-14 you can spam make jewels, and do the same 19-25.

One thing I liked is after you made an item once you can spam produce it easily. This made it nice for easy exp while afk.

spam produce? afk? Ive made items that ive made once in the crafting log and i dont see making them a second time to be any different easier, also I still have to press buttons to do it so how would it be done while afk?

After you reach level 10 I think in a craft you get the quick synth button next to the regular one. It's really only useful for grinding out materials such as leather or ingots as they stack, but you can make up to 99 in one shot and go afk as your guy crafts them. The downside is the HQ is really low. I use this a lot when I do leather skins. Trust me, it's a great feature to have.

Exactly what I was saying. My point was to get to lvl 19 to unlock the bonus attachments. So the goldsmithng stones like sunroby, sapphire and so on to stacks of 99 ere easy to make and do this goal. Granted I only HQ three out of 198, but that wasn't my objecting.

10 unlocks ability to spam craft item
19 unlocks the melding armor
25 unlocks the last skill about melding

Downside of SpamCrafting is that you get ~30% of the EXP. Do not use that for leveling.
Crafting 100 SunStones with basic touch 3-5 times nets you ~1200-1600 exp per craft. SpamCraft ~ 250 exp

I've been seeking out crafters recently, there really aren't any at the level I need them, some of those high end recipie requirements are pretty substantial. Even getting the materials for them can be hard work, I was negotiating with one guy who reckons it would take him 10 hours to fill one of the orders I was asking about :o

If you ignore the whole lot of SCH/SMN/ACN and WHM/CNJ then yes. Oh oops.

There is also an entire range of lvl 50 Unique Weapon meldable/tradeable that equal to lvl 50 2 stars (highest rating) normal quality weapons that require lvl 50 ALC to meld.

CUL 2 stars (highest rating) give some of the most awesome boost, some of which is required to HQ the other class 2 stars recipe (the final 15% of the HQ bar give tremendous boost to HQ Chance, something like the first 85% filled up bar only give around 25% HQ chance while every 1% of the remaining bar gives 5% HQ chance)..

FFXI's crafting wasn't complex: what are you smoking? It was tedious and there was no crafting journal (thus needing to look up recipes online mostly) but that doesn't translate into "complex". You equipped items that increased your crafting skill, paid for advanced image (if you want/needed), and then faced a certain direction on a certain day if you believed it in your heart.

You farmed items, hit enter, and watched and prayed that the craft succeeded and was high quality. That's not complex: that's Random Number Generator. FFXI's crafting took bloody forever and was expensive but ultimately is no more "complex" than WoW's, Rift's, or any number of games where crafting is merely a means to an end.

Vanguard, for all its failings, had a very complex crafting system. Everquest II had a complex crafting system. FFXIV's is definitely more complex than FFXI but less so than the above two mentioned games, and it's very engaging (or at least to me).

Needing 8 ingredients to make an item doesn't make it complex when you're just hitting enter and hoping you don't fail.

HQ stuff do get more complex, but it's also quite luck dependant. If you get Excellent at the end of the chain on the Control bonus for Quality increased + Control bonus for next step + Control Limit Break (100% control efficiency + 20% for each Control bonus up) etc. it's jack pot. I had my record of 957 Quality in one step (on lvl 50 1 star recipe).

My current crafting for level 15-20 weaver/goldsmith is

Basic craft up until I'm 1 more basic craft to complete, then basic touch to increase quality for HQ until I run out of CP, use the CP restore skill, repeat basic touch then finish it up.

Is there a better way to go about it? Doing that does increase the exp reward which is nice.

This is not completely true. Sure you get the 1200-1600 for the first item you craft. As you get a bonus for the first anything you craft. After that it depends on what lvl you are. In my case if I was lvl 11 and crafting a lvl 14 jewel I would get 250 for spamming and maybe 350-370 for solo one at a time. If I was lvl 12 I would get 220, lvl 13 180. Solo would get you more, but take you 2-4x as long. Vs spam 99 in five minutes. On items you don't need to HQ, use for leaves or quest, or skill ups this approach is ok. Also if you wish to just skill up fast so you can repair your own gear.

I really wish people would post accurate information instead of trolling out of their asses. I mean the guy who made this thread wasn't even level 10 and complaining about it. He would of known he got this skill if he invested a little time. Then this guy above is trying to say you get 1k+ for EVERY synth what is false. Only your first.

I think in the future if you want advice from crafters you should find people who have lvl 30+ on a craft. If not they are talking BS and don't know anything worth contributing.

If you just do basic craft skill, you get low exp. If you increase the quality, the higher the % the higher the exp bonus becomes. So you can earn a lot more exp by crafting them one by one.

I agree with this. I don't think you can HQ an ingot though.

You could get a lot of EXP bonus by increasing Quality. At lvl 48 BSM I could get 5-6k per synth. Of course, you need a whole lots of cross-class abilities. If I remember correctly, you want the level 50 CRP ability as it's a sort of Limit Break for crafter to end Inner Quiet chain. You want the CP restore on Good Condition from Alchemy (?), you want Careful Synthesis from Weaver and the 100% efficiency bonus from GSM (Great Stride). I can't remember the details but those are my basic set up.

You can HQ ingot. Only certains recipe that states No HQ available like Dye or Pet. Also Quick Synthesis is not available in many recipes, it's a frigging pain in the butt to craft Rosegold Nugget one by one. I had done that for tens of thousands of times back in the first 4 months of 1.0 release to get my 50 GSM, blergh.

I have a question. What is the "do nothing(not it's real name)" ability used for? All I found use for it was with the ability that restores the points (can't remember what they're called now) after every action for 3 turns but they seem useless compared to the ability that directly restores the points.

You get 4 conditions: Poor, Normal, Good, Excellent. Control -> Quality is obvious affected by these conditions ranging from *coughs* Poor, Normal, Good, Excellent!

As I said, if you have stacked up Inner Quiet and have the double efficiency ability up, you MIGHT want to wait for Good/Excellent to do finishing strike/Limit Break like ability that ends the chain but give 100% efficiency + 20% efficiency for every stack of control up. That would be super duper wuper crazily good and potentially fill 1/2 of the quality bar in one single strike.

So the conditions effect how much of the bar fills up? So you the observe skill to wait for a condition change?
