Hey guys, I quit playing 1.0 a couple months before XIV went down for 2.0, I'm thinking of playing again I'm gonna play again and just had a few questions (was having trouble finding the answers I was looking for on google).

What exactly is legacy? I remember getting emails from square-enix about it, but I don't think I ever signed up for it. Did I have to sign up for it? Does this mean I'm not a legacy player? And if so, will I not be able to play on legacy servers? What are the benefits of playing on a legacy server?
Answered (I did not have to sign up for it, I am a legacy member)

Some minor questions too, will I be able to choose what server I play on? Can I rename my character and pick a different race? I'm level 50 in every single class, so I really don't want to have to make a new character.
Answered (I cannot choose what server my 1.0 characters will play on, but I will be able to transfer later on if I wish, once that option is available. I can rename my character and pick a different race.)

How is the drop rates now? I remember having to do a dungeon 100 times before finally getting loot, are drop rates still that bad or has it gotten better?
Answered (Compared to 1.0, seems ARR's drop rates have been majorly improved)

Unanswered questions:
Will I be able to change the appearance of all my characters, or just one?
If I log on my character now (for the first time), do I have to change their appearance now? Or can I (for example) do it the second or third time I log on?
Also, how does it work? Is it an item I use or a popup window when I first log on?
I heard there would be a barber in ARR, is that already in? Or is that an upcoming patch?
The item you get as a reward for buying 30 days sub, will that allow me to change my race? Or only the looks of my current race?
Sorry for so many questions and thanks in advance for any answers ^^

Welcome back! Let's get right to your questions.

1) Legacy was a campaign that rewarded players for paying for 3 months of service in 1.0 with reduced subscription fees for ARR and exclusive items. The only people who are Legacy are those that fulfilled that requirement.

2) You can start a new character on any server, but your 1.0 characters are restricted to the Legacy servers for now. You will be able to edit everything about your 1.0 characters for one time when you first log into it.

3) As for drop rates, they seem okay to me, although I didn't play very much of 1.0, let alone run a dingeon, to be able to compare the two.

Glad to have you back and hope you stay.

P.S. I should add that most, if not all, of the current servers are packed to the brim and don't offer character creation anymore. Although you may not be able to create a new character, your 1.0 chars will be available for sure. They are supposed to be adding more servers very soon, so this shouldn't be an issue for much longer. Enjoy. :)

A legacy account is if you had paid for 3 months for 1.0 prior to some cutoff date. I don't remember the date but your SE account management system should tell you if you're a legacy account or not. Being legacy gives you a discount on the sub, not sure if there is anything else beyond that.

As for legacy server, that would be where all characters created in 1.0 will be, legacy account or not. I don't have a legacy acocunt but I do have a couple of legacy characters, they're not very high, around lvl 20 or so. It will retain all your levels and items but it wiped all quest completion so you'll be lvl 50 doing all the new quests.

Upon login, all 1.0 character do get a remake. So you'll be able to create your character new again but still retain all job levels and items you have acquired.

As for the last question, I can only tell you the 1017 monster has a very poor droprate as I have yet to get anything from it.

Wow thanks for the quick answers!

Okay, so I do have a legacy account, I checked an old email I got from square-enix stating that I am a legacy player... so that's neat I guess. DragonBourne, you said that legacy accounts get a discount to subscription fee? Just curious, would you happen how much I get off? Just curious how much I'll be paying per month.

Also, really glad to hear I can change my characters race/looks/name. Back when I first started playing FFXIV the first day it came out (I even bought the collectors edition so I could play a few days before everyone else), I really wanted to be a miqo'te, problem is you could only play female miqo'tes so that force me to play a female character and name her a female name. Now I want to play a male miqo'te and I don't want to have a female name anymore, so that's really good to hear ^^

Thanks again for the quick answers! I would still like to hear some more about the current drop rates

Cant say anything about the later dungeons since I created a new character in 2.0 to be able to play with my significant other and with login problems, instance bugs etc. I'm only a bit above lvl 20 as a lancer right now and have only done the first three dungeons.

In those dungeons I dont think I saw anything drop directly to some player, items were in chest and those interested / eligible rolled need/greed for them.

One Group i ran with, one of the players kept choosing "need" all the time and it was a bit annoying. I was surprised when he/she did not roll for the last chest at all, but I then realized it was because that item already had dropped and was unique (you cannot roll on a unique item you already have)

All in all, i got three nice gear items from those three dungeons (one pug weapon, one arcanist tomb, one nice pair of trousers for my lancer) so I am happy with it and looking forward to the coming dungeons.

Short version; Maybe drop rates still are awful? Or things are just different now and stuff drop in chests instead

Even though the game has been up for 8 days now, no one can really answer your drop question if you are asking about end-game dungeons. The reason is the main storyline has to be redone, even by players who completed it in 1.0, and it is really freaking long.

The dungeons you pass through as part of the process - things like Sastasha, Tam-Tara, all drop gear on every run. As for if it is the piece you want, for the level you want it....that's another story.

Random event is random. Chests drop when bosses are killed, chests contain loot. Whether that loot will be for you or not is a matter of luck.

I don't know how it worked in 1.0 but this is pretty standard MMO fare as far as loot from dungeons goes.

As a fellow 1.0 player; IMO, if I were you I'd wait another month or so.

They still haven't got anything figured out. I've seen nothing but the character selection screen since Wednesday.

darklight and af2 are token based, af2 tokens are capped per week

hardmode primal fights give tokens you can trade in for stuff but I haven't really gotten round to doing those yet I was more focused on grinding out some dungeons. After having a slew of unfriendly experiences in some of the dungeons I'm just going for a static atm :P

Sorry for the delay in the answer, but to answer your question about Subscription fees, Legacy players get the $15 a month plan for $10 a month for life which includes 8 characters per server with a total of 40 across all servers. Also, not sure if you know, but Square Enix is implementing something called Veteran Rewards that rewards you for subscribing. One of the rewards for paying for a month of service is a one-time use voucher that allows you to change your appearance, so don't be afraid that when you do change your character that it is set in stone. Glad to have you back. :)

You do get Darklight drop, at least Wanderer Palace drop at the Tonberry King chest and it's 100% 1 piece of DL. Whether or not it's what you want is a different question. At each mini-boss and final boss you also get Tomestone for killing them. Tomestone is the token ZiGG said that are exchanged for DL/Crafting Material/AF2 etc.

Back in 1.0 you could have dozens of runs in CC/AV and no DL drop. Otherwise you usually get DL Gauntlet to the point everyone already has one and can't receive it anymore.

From everything I've heard from people on this forum/thread and people I knew back from 1.0, sounds like the RNG/droprates are WAY better now. Man I remember running CC/AV what had to of been over 100 times each and if I remember correctly, I only ever got one piece of darklight gear. Most of the time, out of the 5 chests we get from completing the dungeon, we wouldn't even get a single darklight drop.

Oh nice, I did actually find out that legacy players got 5$ off, but I didn't know it was for life. Thanks for all the info, all that stuff sounds really cool, especially being able to remake your character with the veteran rewards.

I'm definitely psyched to start playing again, but unfortunately my one-time password security token is malfunctioning, I'm already getting that resolved in another thread... but it just makes me so sad that because of it I'm gonna have to wait about 4 days till I can start playing again ;_; lol

Okay I got a new question...
I was creating my male miqo'te character and there are stupid marks under his eyes that you cannot get rid of.
http://www.finalfantasy.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/beta6.jpg
What the hell! I don't want those stupid marks, am I missing something or is there really no way to get rid of them? I've looked under the options face, tattoo, facial features, and paint... annoying but I guess I'll have to deal lol

Also I was curious, I saw a lot of screenshots and videos of chocobos wearing AF gear, does that actually effect their fighting? Or is it just for looks?

Yes, there is an option to remove (or add different) face stripes or tattoos, at least there was on the female Mi' Qote I created and I can't see male being any different. Can't tell you exactly where the options are in the hierarchy, but I would say to meticulously go through them one by one. You should find it.

It's different for female, I can remove/add them on female miqo'te (I used the be a female miqo'te and now I want to be a male miqo'te). I'm talking about specifically male miqo'te though, it appears there is no way to remove the marks on them... I could add more marks (tattoos, facial features, and paint), but I can't get rid of the default ones.

EDIT: Also it might be worth noting that I'm using the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Official Benchmark (Character Creation) to create my character instead of the game itself (I currently cannot log-in to the game due to a broken security token, so to hold me over until I can log-on, I figured I would create my character using that program).

I know on the female, it is somewhere not readily apparent to remove the stripes. Something like face shape, or something contrived. I'm not saying that you are lying or missing it. I'm just trying to help, but you would know more than I, as I never created a male. Good luck.

EDIT: Just noticed you stated you are using the Character Creator, but to be honest, I haven't seen a difference.

I have a few questions about the ability for legacy players to change their characters appearance.
