I can't play or even talk about it?Follow

So the 1017 error has hit me in an all new way. I booted up the game today and before it even loaded the character selection, I got 1017. Umm? I didn't even choose a server yet, let alone a character. I guess all the servers are full but that is kind of jumping the gun, isn't it?

To top it off, the official FFXIV forums have virtually silenced me. I've only posted maybe 5 times in the past 2 days, but now it tells me I've reached my posting limit or I'm too low level to post. As I browse through the forums, I notice that everyone posting is level 50. Why the sudden restriction? I don't understand why there would be a level restriction for the forums, and unfortunately I can't even comment about it.

It's a PR job. They can't word get out too much that they've once again botched this game.

I don't see how it's a PR issue?
I'm happy with the game, I just don't understand why there is suddenly a level restriction on their forums. It's not as if level 50s won't complain about the same server problems. I'm taking my leveling slowly, but now I feel like if I want to be in the community at all, I need to rush to 50 so I'm not silenced.

Public Relations.

If their forums are flooded with "I can't log on" and someone might be interested in buying the game looks into the forums they might think twice.

Pretty standard stuff.

Not that it will help them much since the rest of the internet knows about it but yea you are right.

Not much stopping me from mentioning it here though. Not to mention as I said, all the level 50s can say the same thing. Level has nothing to do with it.

If that's why, it's a silly reason. There are so many other venues to communicate. It would only make them look bad if it's that obvious they are silencing people.

To answer your questions directly, the error you're facing is what happens when the Lobby Server is either overloaded or down -- It prevents you from seeing the world list. Supposedly the servers are getting additional supporting hardware on Wednesday so this may be alleviated, though not entirely, made more bearable.

I'm not entirely sure what's happening on Lodestone. I've stopped trying to post on there. If you ignore the naughty posters here you'll find the community here is more than friendly and reliable. Most importantly there aren't any silly posting restrictions here.

Welcome to ZAM!

Thanks for the welcome!

I used to use Zam all the time for FFXI so I'm happy to be back.

The server issues are a little annoying but to be expected, so I can't hate them for that. I just like to be able to talk to the community while the servers are down, and I can't do that on the Lodestone now.

Off to explore Zam forums! Thanks everyone.

Anytime! Just a fair forewarning, we currently are experiencing a lot of trolling threads hating on SE for the server issues. Take them with a grain of salt and all is good. You seem like a mature individual which is a breath of fresh air so I look forward to your posts. Those that are sub-default are so for a reason, so just be advised.

I dont think there limiting posts to levels to try and keep silent, i think its more to keep the forums relating to discussing the game. If it was open to anyone including new players, the forums would probably be full of new players flooding the forums with "how do i do this, where is that". I'm not saying new players shouldnt ask questions, but i think they want people to have some experience with the game first so real discussions can occur.

Besides, theres many fan sites, like zam, so it would be much simpler to ask a question here rather than have thousands of people flooding a single forum and losing posts in a matter of seconds.

I thought with all the restrictions and rules people laughed at the ones that joined the official forum would get some better info from SE employees that post since the site is clean. Reading corporate statements on the password page is the only info of this outage i'm getting.

Few things:

1) That's not a "sudden restriction." The official forums started off that way. If you're too low level, you can't make that many posts. However, there are places on there where you have unlimited posting (New Players Help, Bug/Technical Support, to name a few). They just don't want people clogging up General Discussion, and after seeing how the English Beta Forums went down, I really don't blame them.

2) Welcome to ZAM!

Oh lol! The title made me laugh.

I've been checkin in since the morning and server stays full and will prolly stay that way till Tuesday morning.
I was hoping to get some play time this weekend too.

Can't do anything but wait.

Sorry, but I don't think so. I started posting in the General area yesterday when I started having server problems. As i said, I probably haven't made more than 5 posts, and I haven't posted on there at all today. So yes, it is all of a sudden that I can't. Unless the restriction is 5 posts every few days, which is just downright silly.

Also to be clear, I wasn't going there to whine or anything. I just wanted to jump in on conversations since I couldn't chat to people in game. I miss my people! :(

Welcome to the forum! I still consider myself to be new to these forums as well, but I have noticed at least one thing...the majority of the people on here are good, upstanding people who will gladly do what they can to help you or will join in a friendly conversation with you. Treat them with respect and you will get the same.

There ARE a few bad apples here, but they stand out most of the time and can easily be ignored. Aside from them, the people here are great. Smiley: nod Have fun, and I look forward to your posts!
