The following is a quote from here:

Quote:
To address this matter, we are currently working on introducing new Worlds and enhancing the performance of the login and match making processes on both the Japanese and North American & European data centers. This operation is expected to be completed at the beginning of next week.

I can't help but notice that there is no mention of increasing the capacity of existing Worlds. To me this would seem to indicate that the current issues with the over population of existing worlds will remain, but there will simply be more worlds on which to create new characters. Perhaps this is simply to allow the restrictions on digital download sales to be lifted as there will be new worlds for new players to populate.

Regarding the existing population issues, there is no mention of allowing world transfers following the "server enhancements". According to Mog Station, the current schedule for world transfers is mid September. Whether or not SE will offer a free transfer I do not know (but I would sincerely hope that they do). I don't know how others feel, but I currently play on one of the legacy servers and don't intend on rolling a new character from scratch.

Do you think the intended enhancements will be the fix that we all hope it will be, or simply a temporary band aid to allow sales to continue?

Well I am hoping that "enhancing the performance of the login" means that there will be a proper queue system in place.

Very well put post.

I don't think the new server enhancements are going to be the Jesus Upgrade we're all hoping it will be -- I think it'll alleviate the load on the lobby and instancing server and, yes, it will allow people to roll new characters. It's unfortunate that server transfers aren't available yet and I'd be willing to be that they're afraid to take on more with the way things are right now. I can't blame them for that. I do think they'll be a single free transfer, though. That, of course, is purely speculation.

I do think increasing capacity right now wouldn't help matters. After they add some more worlds, though, and let them run for a bit, who knows? Maybe they could do it then.

Edit: I agree with darexius2010....This was a well thought out post.

Sounds about right to me... I am guessing the same thing...

They DID mention that they are always working on improving the efficiency of Duty Finder and and Zoning etc the key causes of 90k and and other disconnects. These disconnects happen in areas of high congestion in the game. They have ALREADY improved that code a number of times (each maintenance is for this reason) and will probably upgrade it again on Wednesday when they launch new servers. The problem is these efficiency upgrades are a slow process and we won't see a major relief from server congestion until they make a more significant impact on how many players can use duty finder simulataneously etc.

Also, Yoshi P has said numerous times that after the new servers are online (and stable whenever that will be) they will allow characters on full servers to transfer to new/less full servers for free as a way to relieve the full servers.

The one thing the OP is definitely correct about is that the Wednesday fix is not magic and will not make this all go away but it is a very big step towards making this all go away. So fingers crossed I'd say we will see less congestion next week and weekend but probably still 1017 but maybe a week or two after that things will settle down.

I know it doesn't state it specifically, but I would imagine that by 'introducing new worlds' they would mean increasing servers. Although I don't think it would have a negative impact, I don't see them dramatically increasing the capacity of a single world. Even if they did, I don't see how it would be a benefit.

People keep throwing around the 5k number and though I'm not sure where it comes from or if it's accurate, I'll use it for an example:

If only 10% of a server's population is interested in hardmode endgame content(I'd expect it to be more, but I'm being conservative), that's a pool of 500 to draw from. If SE does in fact add world spawn mobs or events, you'd hardly want more people than that showing up to battle for a claim.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

Each FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn World server has been designed to support a maximum of 5,000 concurrent connections. This is not the maximum number of characters which can be created on a World, however, but the maximum number of characters which can be logged into that World simultaneously. When more than 5,000 characters log into a World at once, there is a higher risk of server crashes and login errors. The restoration of crashed servers is usually followed by a rush of players attempting to log back in, which, in turn, puts a strain on our lobby server, and can ultimately have an adverse affect on all of the Worlds.

The lobby is so bottle-necked, that's the problem for the server login issues. If SE fixes the lobby alone, we'll see a improvement. However, if they don't add new capacity at the same time, this won't matter if the world is full due to the limitations set by SE.

if u guys are right and they doing nothing to solve the login problems on the current servers I might just quit permanently. 1: I don't want to have to fight to get onto my server my whole FFXIV career 2: I do not want to have to totally start over on one of these new servers just cause SE was to damn lazy to either not have enough servers at start or servers they do have didn't have enough capacity to cover it all

Nowhere does it say they're doing nothing. They're doing everything they can as quickly as they can and trying to minimize the risk of changes affecting everything for the worse. They're doing as good of a job as they can do.

There's no magic button they push to make all the problems go away. Things take time, staffing, and capital.
