Love this game but......Follow

#1 Sep 02 2013 at 11:14 AM Rating: Sub-Default
....Somethings got to give. I loved FFXI, played it for years, and I love this game too, even with all the issues that have come up so far, it's still a great game. But i'm really hoping that we will get comp'd in some way for all of this, even if it's just an ingame item. Something that says SE knows it dropped the ball and " here's a little something from us.". First the EA, which I only got to log in once for a few hrs :p , then the launch which is fun because I get to see 1017 alot ;) but even that was OK because I would just have to click start like 50 times and I would get in at some point, then registration fiasco, but now this takes the cake........It's 1017ing me BEFORE I even get to the character select screen -.- lol that being said, it is a great game, and I will still pay to play it. Really the thing on my mind is, Will they at least give us another 30day free trial, because it kinda blows getting a free trial i can't use :p lololol

What's with writing your entire post in italics?

And to answer your question, no, I seriously doubt they're going to give us another free 30 days. They did, however, mention something about compensation when they get the servers in working order.

They said they are going to add seven days of free trial on to everyones account. I don't think that is set in stone though.

Please don't use italics like that. You're making my eyes bleed.

You want more? Really?

I'm not saying that we (myself included) aren't annoyed, and tired of, the server problems, but SE is fixing it just as they've fixed everything else. Most companies would have said "Don't like the dog **** we laid and released as a game? Too bad! We'll take as much money as we can get for as long as you people will play it and recoup as much of our losses as we can." Instead, SE scrapped the ****, rebuilt...everything, put out a good game, gave it free to those that purchased the ****, and gave free playtime until everything was up and running properly. Not only that, but they also STOPPED SELLING new downloads so those of us who'd already paid could get as much enjoyment as possible at the moment.

Not many companies would do any of the above. Most of all to flat out refuse sales.

SE is so far in the red right now on this game, as they've basically invested in 2 games now and received almost no ROI yet, and yet they're going to spend more and add new servers.

I see nothing to ***** about. SE has done right in my book through this whole painful process.

It's absolutely ridiculous that they couldn't anticipate this influx of players! I mean we shelled out all this cash just to sit at the login screen and waste our time and it is absurd.

You forget that hundred's of thousands of players are able to enjoy the game as well. Even more if you include those that desire to play, and will do so on JP servers that have the stability. In a month, these problems are most likely gone. In a month, most of these "free trial" players will be gone too. It'll all work out in the end.

We defend them because they tell us they are working on the things that we believe is broken.

Now if they do not fix these things, peoples attitude will change quite a bit.
#8REDACTED, Posted: Sep 02 2013 at 4:10 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is probably one of the worst launches for an MMO I have experienced. They so underestimated the number of people who would buy the game that they have this 1017 issue solid every night since early play began.

Yes, because you can just magically wish stuff to work the next day. Also, it's just barely been a week, not 2, since EA started.

I'm glad they're doing a thorough job testing and planning the additional capacity rather than just piecemealing something together that would go on to contribute to further problems later on down the road.

You cannot run down to Best Buy and buy data center grade servers off the shelf.

I used to do marketing for one of the big PC/server companies, and if you needed something standard you could possibly get it overnighted, but as soon as you start requesting a custom configuration that lead time shoots out to 3-4 days at the earliest. Most of the sales guys asked for at least a week to get an order through.

How can you go on complaining at the people who not only acknowledge the problem, but have given a precise date (tomorrow!) at which they're going to be fixing it?

All of these needless complaints far from make SE seem like the bad guy, these complaints actually make SE look like the victim. Imagine getting into an argument with someone and the person says after a short time, "You're totally right, I'm wrong. Actually I'm trying to solve my wrongness this very moment. On the third of the month I'll even be implementing what you ask." And then you go on to berate them just the same, in the face of further apologies, adding nothing new to the topic at hand but seemingly out of pure desire to vent.

WoW had this issue, and it was 2 or 3 days, so did DnD Online, and a few others who got buried in subscriptions like this. Instead of getting the hardware shipped in next day, they put it off, its 2 weeks coming in a few days.

WoW had this particular issue for months after launch. Now, since you're under the belief that servers come off the shelf ready to go, I want you to go buy a blade server tonight and set up a basic fully functional LAMP server. It's really simple to set up.

Oh, and make sure it can handle 250,000 concurrent db transactions with several million calls per second. If you need to, buy a cluster of blade servers and have them all up and running tonight.

Heck, we'll be nice and say within two days, as per your post.

Now since you can't do that and don't even begin to understand how that would even happen, I suggest you sit back, let the upgrades happen, and call it a day.

If you wanna be a fan or be optimistic about the future of the game, that's fine. Please don't act like there was nothing to ***** about though. I can list more things than I can count on one hand that are worth ******** about... and that's only taking into account the pre-order process. Don't even get me started on registration. I could probably write a post long enough to fill up an entire page of this thread.

It's a step in the right direction, but this is not going to be the fix you think it is.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

If you want to only focus on the negatives, then sure, tons to ***** about. What's it going to accomplish though?

My point is this:
How many times have you bought an awful, awful, awful game only to have said company tear it down, start from scratch, and give you the new and improved version for free?

Once. This game. And I'm sure you (like me and pretty much every gamer) has dropped $60 on more than their fair share of bad games.

SE is trying very hard, and digging deep into their, and their investors, pockets to keep their loyal fan base alive and happy. For that I can't *****. For that I applaud them. Most companies would have tried to recoup as much as possible and then let the game die while writing off the losses.

Look outside your tiny little bubbles once in awhile. There's a whole world out there beyond yourselves.

Oh, and FilthMcNasty...you're awesome for being a Chris Seaver fan even if you are a bit misguided.
