Loving some of the FATE names and Achievements.Follow

#1 Sep 03 2013 at 9:54 AM Rating: Excellent
I was fishing in Costa del Sol this weekend when I saw the FATE "It's Not Lupus" start, and the goal is to defeat a giant crab named Cancer. Several people from my LS came and we grouped up so we could get the gold reward (18k xp and a crab minion). I was looking through the achievements and the one we got for that is called "Full Remission". I love stuff like that and I'm glad they took the time to do it Smiley: nod

There was one that did a play on the Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic Chili Peppers album. Also, I love how they referenced Star Trek the Next Generation in the story mission (Enterprise, Engage!) Smiley: lol My first story lol moment.

The pop culture and squaresoft/SE refs are pretty amazing. The pure quantity considering the above average quality is phenomenal. Considering IMO it almost always fits and rarely feels forced.

Si-Si-Si-Si-Simurgh, Simurgh is the Word...

Yes, there is a FATE called Simurgh is the Word. Can't remember where exactly, but you fight some huge dragon-bird thing. The localization team must've had a lot of fun with this game.

Agreed! I've seen a lot of fate/quest names that come from pop culture and other references. It's the little things like this, among others, that I love about a game.

Stick Them With The Pointy End (Gladiator level achievement) is an ASOIAF/Game of Thrones reference.

Cancer was a notorious monster crab in Kuftal Tunnel in FFXI!

I know this, because my linkshell camped him one day to get a greatsword for our awesome GS paladin.

Good stuff!

This is a bit off topic, but since we are talking about the little things...
Ever notice that some of the npc's stare at you as you walk around? A good example of this is Tataru in The waking Sands. She will look at you no matter where you are, and follow you as you move. I don't know why this is so awesome to me, but it is.

Also! In the streets of Ul'Dah, there's a man handing out flyers. And he will turn towards you and try to hand you one if you walk by. It really shocked me.

theres a fate in the kobold stronghold called "Full Metal Alchemist", an obvious reference to the anime that shares the name, it was nice of square to make this reference as they were the ones responsible for publishing FMA at Monthly shonen gangan

plus theres an reference to skyrim in the level 35 BRD quest where the instructor says normally people would think he abandoned the battlefield due to an arrow to the knee.

No one noticed the "Breaking Bud" reference to Breaking Bad? Or how about "I Just ____ in your Arms Tonight" reference to "I just died in your arms tonight"? I can't remember the ____ that was in FFXIV. :\

There are also awesome Quest names like "Big Trouble in Little Ala Mhigo".

Can you explain how that works? I've soloed half of one of those NM FATES before and it didn't seem like I got anything special though I must have done the most damage overall since it was like half dead when others showed up (and I was healing my carby)

It's pretty easy to get gold when you are in a party because you all share the kill. I tried Cancer 3 times solo and could only get silver. I need to group up to get that damn crab minion I guess. Someone in game said it's based on how much enmity you get, but I'm not sure if that's true.

The guard at the end , something along the lines of "Now back to ...er... making sure the ladies are.. uh.. safe. Yes."

Emnity definitely has to have an impact on it. I was able to get gold solo on WAR34 just by spamming WS's and dumping Provoke/Flash on him whenever possible. I also took a lot of damage and was cured by other people fighting.

It's probably similar to how Campaign was tabulated in FFXI. You could get a lot of points for getting emnity, even more for emnity and damage, and even more than that by getting emnity, doing damage and taking damage.
