Companion Chocobo SP points?Follow

#1 Sep 03 2013 at 11:58 AM Rating: Good
Does anyone know the maximum amount of points your Companion Chocobo gets to spend in his skill trees?

I see that you need 10 points at a minimum to complete the Healer Stance tree up to the point you get Choco Medica.

How many points would be left over?

My LS mate said that you cannot finish all 10 points in all 3 trees. Also, there is currently no way to re-spec your companion points. If you want to buy at least the 3 starter abilities (the first ability in both the Attack and Defense trees) will you end up with at least 12 total points so you can still finish out the Healer tree? (1+1+10 = 12 SP)?

Thanks!

I'd like to know this also... I have not used my chocobo for anything other then riding so far... I'm guessing you need Guyshal Greens to summon him as a pet?

Yep, you can buy a stack of 99 Grysal Greens for cheap from the NPC just a bit north of Bentbranch Meadows.

Yes, you summon with Gyashi Greens.
I wish I hadn't wasted 2 SP points in tank stance, because it was worthless. I switched to healing which at least provides some benefit. I honestly don't know what I was thinking when I assumed the chocobo would keep aggro from me.
Thinking back, I had my companion set to healing mode in FFXI as well.

I really love the whole idea behind the Chocobo Companion, but the concept of it is a waste due to the general consensus that chaining FATEs are a lot faster to level with then grinding on chain of mobs. I painfully got my Chocobo to rank-4 and to be honest it's more of a hindrance because I need to keep dismissing it in order to jump back on my mount so I can keep up with my FATE team. On the plus side, it does help while I solo some outdoor non-instance mobs that I need for my Hunter Log or what not.

Yeah, companion is not very helpful for running FATES. You should really be able to hit MOUNT while he is deployed instead of dismissing him first. UNMOUNT straight into Companion Mode would be cool as well.

Like you said, soloing Hunting Log is where the companion really shines. I soloed Hunting Logs from 5-15 Archanist.

With Carby and a Chocobo together its was a party of 3 during solo play. Had a lot of fun with my little army!

From what I see you get no points left over. At level 1 you get one point. At level two you get 2 points. At level 3 you get 3 points etc. If you stay with one tree you will need all the points into one tree to get the last ability. I personally choose attacker. I think things die'n faster is greater then a heal or a tank. Solo you can heal yourself and are the tank but you can't double your damage!

My gf is running SCH and I'm running SMN. Sometimes we get to a boss fate that no one is it, we both pull out or chocobos, and our party of 6: Tank (Titan) Healers(her, Eos, & me with Sustain) DPS (her dots, me, and 2 chocobos). It is phenomenal.

Maximum Companion rank is 10?

That's sad, I already spent 1 point in Attacker so I guess no Choco Medica for me. :(

Has that actually been confirmed though? I don't think there's been anything definite that said 10 was max. I sure hope not, because I put 1 point in the first ability of each tree also, thinking at least the first ability would be useful regardless while leveling.

The only thing I've found so far is a screenshot of the Companion Rank 10 Achievement. Other discussions on the Lodestone are saying that you will get exactly 10 points, but as far as I can tell, no one has reached Rank 10 to verify that it is the Max.

I'm almost certain I read that you can only max out one path and to choose how you spend your points wisely.

Right, but 'only maxing out one path', and 'you get exactly enough points for one path and not a single SP more' are two totally different things. Well, hopefully if it's only one path they give us a way to reassign points, even if it's with company seals like with our attribute points.

Here's GM reply on the Lodestone:

Quote:
'Hello,

Your understanding on this is correct. As your companion ranks up you’ll gain SP; however, the amount of SP you receive is limited, so it will not be possible to acquire every skill for all three stances (defender, attack, and healer). With that said, we'd like you to look into how you’d like to specialize your companion and focus on acquiring the skills you need to make that happen.'

Altho their is nothing said about a reset lots of people are requesting it on the forums, since they feel without the proper explanation they are now stuck with a 'poorly allocated chocobo'. Also rumors are that you might be able to train different chocobos after the chocobo raising has been introduced to get a chocobo for each of your stances.

You know how one of the Subscription bonuses is a black chocobo chick? Looks like we may eventually have more than one companion available.

Now wait a minute, I got 1 SP for Rank 1, and 2 SP for Rank 2.

I've been reading other places and other players have confirmed the SP reward scales up with your Rank.

That means that 10 Ranks =/= 10 SP.

At the very least those of us that have spent a point or two in the Attacker or Defender Trees should still be able to get Choco Medica.

Then again, subsequent abilities may cost more than 1 SP.

Rank 2 gives you 2 SP, but then the second level skills cost 2 SP. Anyway, his answer still doesn't clear up whether you will have any leftover points after maxing out one tree, only that you can only MAX one tree.

Regardless if they're looking into a way to reset them, and/or having multiple different chocobos then in the long run it doesn't matter.

Rank 2 ability costs 2 SP?

Right, we still don't really have confirmation since it sounds like no one is actually ranking up their chocobo. I'm reading complaints on the rate that chocobos Rank up. Others are saying that there is not any level 50 content you would use them for anyway. It's more of a solo leveling tool. At the rate they rank-up, you will get your classes to level 50 and have no use for your companion before you get to Companion Rank 10 anyway.

It's starting to look like Chocobo Companions are a nice feature for mid-level soloing that really has no long term gameplay ramifications. Maybe players will find a use for them while high level farming?

I'm assuming high level farming and maybe if they implement races and things later having a "leveled up" companion will matter.

Do the chocobos just rank up from being used? I didn't see any progression bar, or anything that lets me know how much exp the chocobo is getting.

Also, is there a way you can make your chocobo get the hell away from you? I haven't had much practice with companions, and I find it ridiculous that my healing stance chocobo is right in the enemies face with me. I want to make him get back, so he can at least dodge some of the aoe attacks he seems so willing to eat.

In your character screen there is a companion button. That will show you your chocobo level. As far as I know about the aoe attacks you just let him take them to the face.

My chocobo is currently level 4. Just summon him whenever you're running fates or going around soloing.

There is also using the chocobo to level other classes up from 1. So I would imagine, if you're the type to want to level up all the jobs (eventually), and you have your companion with you as you restart some of the earlier jobs, which (ideally) allow your lower level character to take on tougher mobs than would normally be the case, you would end up leveling it up that way.

That might have been the expectation on the part of the Devs. Remember, not everyone power climbs to 50 or is reaching for Endgame. Some people like to explore.

It's a really small icon - but if you go into your equipment character screen up near the top right there's a teeny icon of a chocobo to click on. Took me blooming ages to find it.

Here's a link to a companion info thread.
I asked around from a different post but from what I hear you get 55 points total. Also no current way to respec your companion. I heard that they will make it so you can since so many demanded it and other mounts are going to be companions. Idk how reliable the info was so lemme do some research on my pc. It's a pain to do all that on the phone.
#26 Oct 03 2013 at 12:20 PM Rating: Decent
So, if you can get 55 SP but can only fully fill one skill tree, would that be more sensible or would filling one stat to 7, one stat to 6, and one stat to 3 be more sensible? Granted you won't be able to fill the 8th, 9th, or 10th position on your main skill tree but in a way you would be making up for that with the other stats being able to be utilized. Such as if your 2 main stats, (7th spot and 6th spot) would be ATK and HEAL in that order then while you can't heal everyone in the group for 150 with your chocobo, but you can draw some fire off of other players while still utilizing HEAL skill 4 to recover them by 400 then have your choco go right back to ATKing while actually doing a decent amount of damage. All in all those last 3 ranks missed so you can have more stats to aid you seems like a much better trade off.

What are your thoughts on this approach to Chocobo LVLing?
