Companion Chocobo SP points?Follow

#27 Oct 03 2013 at 12:36 PM Rating: Good
Personally I agree that a hybrid chocobo is best for this point in the game.

But no one even has a rank 10 chocobo with Choco medica (that I know of) so we can't really tell how powerful that may be.

You can't use the chocobos for endgame content so it's really a non-issue. Allocate however you want. We will be able to make a 100% healing chocobo in the future if we want, but it still isn't going too be part of the strategy for real end-game content, since that content is all instanced.

We can actually say how powerful Choco Medica will be.

A lot of people have Choco Cure with a potency of 300. Just imagine that Choco Medica has a potency of 150.

Given that my chocobo rarely heals for more than 250 points of HP at level 50 with a HP pool of 4500+ on myself. You can expect a completely wasteful 125~HP Medica from it. On top of that, when were you ever in a group where you needed your chocobo companion to do the healing, including healing 3-7 other people? Outside of joking around in some fates, never.

The reason no one has a Rank 10 Healing chocobo is because it's an absolute waste of time, effort and SP. Much better spend on other things.

Agreed, the Chocobo Companion is cool but not very useful at all.

Disagree, the chocobo attacker is very nice for mage-types doing leves and other solo-ish, non-instance content.

It's incredibly useful.

I'll rate you up for stating your opinion, then I'll clarify why I find it so useless.

Not a single batle on the overworld, Leve or otherwise, is so hard you can't destroy them quickly without the chocobo. I used it as a mage but mostly I just forgot and then tried to mount up and then thought, "Thanks a lot for helping in two fights and then preventing me from mounting, woopdie-doo."

Hunting log fights the help was ok, but again better to just be able to hop on/off the mount chocobo before/after a fight.

Not very often am I doing anything without the Duty Finder queued. Once again, can't have the chocobo out while queued for a dungeon.

Fix the chocobo so it can be out during Duty Finder (that is coming) and so you can mount/unmount without having to withdraw/summon every time.

Nah, I'm sticking to it's not very useful (at all after 50) and they should have fixed those frustrating oversights while people were still leveling up.

Let me summon it during a Story Mode battle or a Class/Job battle! Then it would be awesome!

Necro'd!

So I have my chocobo on the attacker tree, since my primary job has been as WHM. Having the extra damage boost from the bird has been pretty helpful. If I was on a DPS job I'd definitely want the healer bird, though.

My primary is also WHM but I picked healer for later on... I think I'm level 5 now...

THe issue is at the moment:
1) Bird cant go in dungeons
2) Heals are so weak its almost not even useable at 50
3) At 50, outside of dungeons, there is nothing a level 50 in full artifact cant kill

So the common thinking at this point has been to get a mostly DD bird with a few cross skills, and i cant agree more. Until we can grow our own chocobos and have multiple ones leveled, a path specific one isnt that great. The whole companion thing still needs so much more work.

1) Being able to queue for things with bird out
2) being able to reset spent points
3) being able to take it in dungeons

I use mine to help me when i'm spiritbonding. Speeds things up and his Regen and Cures are all it takes to stay alive really.

I have 4 levels in Healing for Choco Cure, and then switched to Attacker since mathematically Choco Medica at Level 10 would be the biggest waste of time in the world.

So Lv.4 Healer, Lv.4 Attacker right now at Rank 6.

Don't forget being able to hop on to ride to the next quest objective without dismissing.

The devs did say they planned to fix this long ago. Priority-wise, not so high I think.

This is currently the only thing I use the bird for. It was invaluable when I was spiritbonding Patrician's gear while blowing up snurbles.

I use mine if I run up to a FATE solo. It can keep me alive until the FATE party swarms in then I usually get an invite and its bye bye birdie.

Now that I'm levelling a 2nd class, I may do this too.

I find that having at least 1 point in each tree, and the Choco in Free Stance, is highly effective. He uses each ability, and each one is useful.

Sticking to one tree doesn't seem like a plan that needs to be done at this time, at the cost of useful level 1 abilities being unavailable. At some point, the Companion may become more useful (in the way listed above) and they will probably also implement:
- Chocobo raising
- Additional Companions (that you can spec differently)
- adjustments to EXP leveling rate

I will worry about getting Choco Medica when it become a low-hanging fruit. Right now it's nearly impossible and ultimately not very useful. Maybe for FATE parties with 0 healers you would see some use. By the time you have achieved a level 10 Companion you would likely be out of Jobs to level in FATES anyway. No, you would definitely be out of jobs to level!

What is useful is having a functioning Tank/Healer/DD hybrid on my team for soloing quests/fates right now. Well, by a stretch of the imagination it could be called useful.

I am leveling my last job to 50 as well (36 MNK what what in the butt! ^5)

And yes having a hybrid right now is useful. I can get a lil heal if I need it, I can get some extra dps in and occasionally my chocobo turns my enemy around so I can get in a positional attack.

In the original artwork Yoshi showed for 2.0 I got the impression chocobo companions would be able to be pulled out while in a full party. Not the case today but I keep hoping for some dungeons where you can bust out the birds as part of the content.
