Well being that I'm leveling every crafting profession out there thats tough in itself. Not only that I'm getting to a point where some of the classes can't buy mine/botany/fish the materials I have to kill mobs for leathers and spiders for silk or various other crap like meats horns claws. So i'd like to know what's a good class that kills fairly quickly cause I main a conj its gonna be WHM and they kill kinda... meh.

I'm trying to lv an archer but it seems kinda underwhelming and maybe it just gets better later on idk its 7 atm. Was thinking about maybe A thm cause switching between the 2 elements they pretty much have no downtime right?

You mostly farm materials on gathering classes -- Botanist, Miner, Fisher -- and there's certainly no damage coming from them!

I am biased but Lancer is a great class for killing quickly.

That being said, I use the marketboard much more often than farming enemies for items. People will occaisonally dump things for super cheap just to be rid of them.

You can also buy a lot of things for cheap from regular merchants if you know where to look. For example the Alchemist guild has Hempen Yarn which you would normally have to craft with Moko Grass if you only hang out in the Weaver guild. The Carpenter guild in Gridania has other types of ingots (Brass or Bronze, I can't remember) you can't buy in Ul'dah without going to the market board.

There are surely other examples, but of course not everything is for sale so yes I have farmed my share of Antelope Horns.

The game seems to incentivize making partnerships to advance more quickly. While it's hard to max out every class off the bat if you can put together a group of people with varying skills they can all help each other out.

From what I've experienced so far (ACN & ARC at 50), every class is able to solo at 50, especially if you toss in the chocobo companion for extra tank/dps/heals. There's currently no content outside of FATEs in the open world that can't be solo'd. The only concern you may ever have is being in a crowded area and getting a few too many mobs on you.

Now as for the most efficient, I'd have to go hands down with SMN. Titan-egi does a very good job at holding threat and tanking for you, meaning you have little-to-no downtime. You're more or less able to DoT up a mob, throw out a Fester and maybe a Ruin, then move onto the next one. Toss out a sustain, or use a chocobo healer, for Titan-egi and the only time you'll have to stop is because all the mobs are dead.

Most materials, except for hides, comes from gathering classes. As for the hides, well, if you're planning on obtaining them yourself I'd recommend Arcanist/Summoner as you can solo most over world monsters. You can also try Pugilist/Monk or Lancer/Dragoon with cure to help you survive.

I'd advocate a melee like Pugilist or Lancer just to avoid MP management and cast range/time issues from casters.

As another poster noted, a lot of entry level materials are sold by vendors, but eventually you will need to gather or buy/trade from other players. In he case of something like Hempen Yarn, you'll see it listed for 5g at some places, while Moko Grass costs 2g and you need to make the yarn, thus a 1g mark-up. The hempen cloth sees a similar mark-up, costing either 11 or 12g, I forget. Some items are simply outright expensive to start with, though, like the umbral jellyfish at 48g. I'm assuming those are fished up, so making friends for these wouldn't hurt.

If you want an in-demand market, get to 25+ and start farming diremite webs in north shroud. These can't be gathered for weavers and they need 2 per yarn, then 2 yarn per cloth.

It really depends on how you wish to farm. If you mean massive quick kills, LNC or PUG come to mind. BLM isn't no slouch either especially if they can AoE it. I really think that the DoH jobs are great ways to farm. Miner is a wonderful class for farming mats for alchemy, goldsmith, and blacksmith. The days of having to slaughter mobs for reliable drops isn't always the best way to farm all the time.

well considering most my crafts are 20+ atm i've laid low the time when i could buy mats straight off the material vendor in the stalls or the crafting guild. Say the lv 25 spider dremite it hink its called, or the lv 15 and 20 and 25 leather that comes from mobs those are the big hangups atm.

My Vote is for SMN with a DPS choco and TItan-egi. I'm 49 atm. I dot(one dot to claim it thats insta cast) a level 49 mob and just watch it disappear without doing anything else.

So there is no such thing as mp issues in this game when it comes to farming. I would recommend any class with a short reuse instant claim, long distance ability.

EG - Tomahawk throw for MAR
Aero for CNJ

This lets you claim lots of mobs, the other thing you need is a decent ae. BLM wins this hands down as blizard 2 is mana free, can hit everything, and can be spammed all day.

In short I would say any class can do it, dps or not, just use insta casts to claim. I prefer CNJ/Arcanist/MAR to farm mats.

I have to agree with SMN, for farming you can't beat it. There is NO downtime as a SMN with Aetherflow, and as you get leveled and Aetherflow stacks to 3 you're spamming Fester and/or Bane and mobs or groups just melt for you, and all with minimal risk because you can always run away while Titan holds the line if things did get hairy.

And draws all kinds of aggro. Blm does however, hit very hard and you usually kill the enemy off before it can do too much damage. And you have access to a cure spell in Psysick (from ACN) that gives you a pretty decent dose of health should the enemy get the best of you and you need to sleep it and cure. And dont forget your chocobo at lvl 30. Invaluable.

I like farming on LNC... very fast kills and fast chains of kills, also has very good survivability with a decent defense and cross-class abilities to boot.

I kill dodos nonstop for dodo tenderloins and never have to stop moving/killing.

The only downside is no ranged pull...

Piercing Talon from the level 15 LNC quest is ranged.

it is ranged, but it's medium ranged...but when you upgrade to DRG you'll eventually have 3 jumps including an AoE and they all have pretty impressive range.

It is true that these items are currently in demand, though to make the Velveteen Cloth it only takes 1 Dew Thread and 1 Cotton Thread, so we luck out there a bit that the ratio is 1:1.

That being said, I have been farming these like a madman for the past few days to support my 27 WVR. They also drop from the mite-family enemies inside Toto-Rak.

A few of The Krakens have already supported my efforts. If you are on Ultros server, feel free to send me any of your spare Diremite Webs! (can offer gil or materia melding/HQ weaving goods as compensation)

I've been able to make good gil by selling tier two mats; tier one mats being farmed/harvested, tier two mats that have been processed once. Things like leathers, lumbers, sheets and ingots go quick if you sell them in stacks at reasonable prices.

Edit: Sheets are processed twice but same principle.

Isn't dodo meat available from the CUL vendor? or are you just trying to save a few hundred gil?
