The AFK kick is 1) useless and 2) annoying.

Once capacity is up there is going to be zero benefit of kicking AFK people.

BUT there are about a thousand reasons someone would want to sit AFK instead of logging out. Here are a few:

- just lazy
- want to still get FC/party/LS chat
- let your FC peeps know you online but AFK right now so they don't start new runs etc
- monitor the shout traffic (looking for gilsellers lol)
- want to show of sexy gear (saw Towellie idle on Diabolos in his lvl 50 Pally gear last night)
- waiting for duty finder
- RL aggro
- reading ZAM forums (and get lost for an hour)
- i use my computer as a heater and nothing warms me up better than FFXIV on full graphics

No. I agree with you. Having a mandatory AFK boot timer is not a solution to the real problem which is server capacity and capability.

No, it isn't. However asking for ridiculously long timers (1 - 2 hours.... seriously? It may as well not even exist) isn't a solution either and is borderline "GIMME IT'S MINE".

Outside of the the "T for Teen" and Square-Enix logos actually getting to log in is fairly fast and on par with other MMOs. Even if the AFK timer's 15 minutes it won't be a huge deal. This isn't FFXI where you practically needed the non-time-out because it was a bloody chore to log in every single time (especially on crashes on patch day).

If anyone played Aion, particularly during "Head Start" like I have, I cannot help but feel this is bad idea, because Aion did the same thing and it only sealed that MMO's fate. That game never recovered from that horrible launch. FFXIV is doing great even in these peril times, and it's part due the fact that SE has stayed on top of it(NCSoft was wreckless). However, they should tone it down some, the current restrictions they have in place, are sufficient.

Hope the AFK timer will cut in at around 30 minutes or so, because too often I find myself standing around waiting on duty finder to get me into a dungeon. Guess I'll have to move now while I'm doing that.

I hope it's an hour. Sometimes, I take a long crap or just want to eat a meal in peace then get right back to it.

Just checking, some people didn't know you can do other stuff while you wait, why not go do some leves?

An AFK timer won't hurt anyone, as long as it's not too short. I kind of feel that 20 minutes is a little too quick to be kicked... an hour would be sufficient, imo.

What happens if you are in your inn room, seeking for duty finder, watching TV while waiting for that box to pop, and the afk timer kicks you?

You take 2 seconds out of your time to periodically check on your character and twitch them to keep them active.

You could stand in the corner of a building and hit auto run haha. I used to do that in other mmo's that had afk timers.

They might guard against the L1... I'm gonna have to go with the old fashioned book on a joystick while sitting in my inn room, remembering to plug in my wireless controller so it doesnt run out of batteries.

Am I the only one who would be annoyed if the auto-disconnect isn't something we have the ability to turn off?

Seems like it would defeat the purpose if you could just switch it off and idle all day while swimming at the lake.

Right, but the purpose is already defeated if they're striving to allow for more traffic anyway. A queue I'm all for, but I think auto-disconnect will be pretty worthless once SE can manage the amount of traffic they're receiving. If people knew they could get into a queue and **** off to wash dishes or mow the lawn in the meanwhile, you'd probably have far less people going AFK. Just sounds like a better solution to the problem to me and less wasted time.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

Yeah I don't mind the timer idea but:
- They're basically admitting their servers suck
- People will work around it
- It seems like a bit of a PR move
- I've been able to log on within 5 minutes for the last 2 days

Hopefully better commercials this time. Honestly that last commercial made me embarrassed by association.

There are way more than enough cut scenes that are awesome to edit together, and gameplay footage itself would likely be the biggest draw.

OMG I saw the new commercial tonight twice.. it is horrible... Something to me is wrong with a video game commercial that has no game play footage... It does not even have cut-scene footage.. When I see video game commercial with just actors I think they don't show the game because it is terrible..

Show some game footage.. I wonder if this is just the old one again...
