Are PS3 players playing on the ps3 by choice?Follow

#1 Sep 05 2013 at 10:23 AM Rating: Decent
I'm curious if the majority of ps3 players are playing because they prefer that to a pc, even though a pc is a viable alternative to them? Or are they playing on a ps3 because they don't have a pc that is capable of running the game? I personally don't see the appeal of playing on ps3, however I don't know if there's something I"m missing something that would grant a greater appeal of ps3 instead of pc, since pc hardware capable of playing the game at a decent resolution can roughly be found for the price of a ps3.

Also, is htere any way to play my regular pc game on ps3 without buying the game on on ps3?

It's the cheaper way for me to play for now. Plus in a few months will be upgrading to the PS4 anyway. I'm pretty sure I won't be close to 50 anyway for the high level fates and such.

My PC sucks. I like console MMOs. I like my big TV and my controller. PS3 was cheaper to set up. Yes it is by choice.

Im not a graphics *****. I can still play even NES games today (heck even played pong an missile command a few days ago) all I care about is having fun not how the game looks. I play on PS3 by choice even though I have a $2300 gaming laptop.

When my wife crashes to a runtime error for the third time during the day, I understand the appeal of continuing to play on my PS3 instead of my PC Smiley: lol However when I look over her shoulder I wish graphics were as crisp on PS3, but hey I'll take smooth gameplay with no issue over better graphics any day.

It was either play on PS3 or mess around with getting it to work on WINE since I refuse to install windows on any of my machines. And since it was available to just download and install for PS3 I felt that was easier.

Plus, you can plug a mouse and keyboard into the PS3, so I don't see what the big deal is.

I perfer playing on the ps3, i really like how they set everything up and the hot bars, really easy to pick up and play. I played ffxi on ps2 so playing ffxiv on ps3 just felt natural to me, and graphics never really mean much to me as long as the game is good im happy.

for myself... its a legacy thing. i played ffxi on ps2 first before pc. ill play ffxiv 2.0 on ps3 first, then ps4, then my pc when pc graphics are just plain out better than ps4 or whatever. i currently have ffxi on pc to play, but thats only because i can't really play it on ps2 anymore, and not at all on ps3 unless a person has the backwards compatible one.... fat chance at that. yes i know xbox 360 can play ffxi, and no i don't care.
now, from what i said previously about superior graphics to the ps4. I am speaking from a value/cost point. yes pc can out do the ps4 already, but not for 500$ ;)
it's clost though. and when i have it for ps3, ps4 and my pc, ill be able to play dual box 3 characters, no problem. use a mic to command my pc, left hand for ps3 and right hand for ps4. pro style.. lol

This is not accurate. I'd guess to get such a crappy result for PS3 they had to use the RCA cables hooked up to a coax converter and then film that on an old TV with an antique camera. Seriously, it's not that bad. It's not as good as on PC, of course, but that video is NOT an accurate representation of what the game actually looks like on PS3.

A friend of mine is on PS3 because she uses a Mac and doesn't want to mess around with Boot Camp or Parallels.

Although I have a PS3 and I seriously considered getting the game for it, I opted out because I get more enjoyment out of my two 22" 1080p monitors than I would the 40" big TV. So instead I'm holding out for a PS4 and the version for that, if anything.

I play on the PS3 by choice. From time to time I want better graphics so I'll fire up my desktop, but other than that I like that the UI is scaled larger. And I can sit on the couch.

problem with that video, is that it is a perfect example of how NOT to do a comparison. first of all, i have a ps3 and graphics are never that ****** looking unless you purposely change the results, such as messing with tv options, and not using an HDMI cord. believe it or not, the cord DOES make a difference in quality.
and like i said in another comment. obviously pc will have better graphics. the reason why i play this on ps3 to start instead of pc, it due to reliability. chances are, the game will work better on a console, hands down, for the next while until the ps4 version is released for ps4. i will then have two copies, as i have the ps4 preordered already. pc has the small issue of being BUGGY AS ****. sure, there are better graphics on pc. there are also more bugs, due to the many different setups of pc. plus with consoles, ill be able to chat to people on my console, or barring that, on my pc seperately, while using it for things i bought it for, like searching the web, and chatting to my fellow Earthly comrades.

Pretty simple to get it to work on linux. just quit using WINE and use a virtual machine instead. way easier to install and use, and works better than WINE hands down when trying to get something to work on linux. WINE works, don't get me wrong, but like you said, its easier to play on ps3 than mess with WINE. well my friend. VM's are easier than WINE. just install extra ram, an extra harddrive if you need it, and voila, you can have linux in the background keeping things running. and when window's crashes... like it will eventually, it's not a complete system restart.

Uh, my PC bugginess isn't due to the game, it's due to the fact that Microsoft's Windows 8 still needs its big patch to not suck as much.

I only crash when I do things like install experimental drivers.

windows 8.... fail..... go reinstall windows 7 with all direct x 11 drivers. much better. stability wise. i understand from some people's comments in other forums that windows 8 is supposed to get a framrate boost for some games, but to me the bugginess of a new version of windows just isn't worth it.... plus it's the same crap they said about windows vista.... we all know how that went.

-edit- also, i don't want to be confusing anyone again so ill explain here. i was not meaning bugginess of the game on pc, i mean the pc in general.

Something just feels good about playing an MMO on a console. It just gives me some sort of special feeling.
Though I do play this on my PC (with a PS3 controller). I was waiting for this to come to PS3 but I finally talked myself into getting a PC. If I didn't go multi monitor, I would have hooked my PC to my TV to completely simulate the PS3 experience.

I work in IT. I have to learn to use it in order to support it. Smiley: bah

I actually don't mind the whole Metro interface and start screen and such. I've learned all the keyboard shortcuts to do what I need it to do. I'm just crossing my fingers that the memory management issues get ironed out in version 8.1....

I also like PC because whenever it breaks I can fix it myself. Smiley: cool

yup. ffxi was awesome that way. 65" led flatscreen. ps3 controller. munchies. high definition ps2 graphics on my computer. = heaven.

Interesting. I thought they said htey werne't putting it on ps4.

I want to try it on ps3, it just feels like the text is going to be to small for me to read, as my tv is on the other side of hte living room.

Strange, I'm using windows 8 x64 and since day one of installing I've never had a crash, bsod, etc. And I do some pretty funky stuff with it.

I got a sweet *** rig off some kid from Craigslist for only $600 and I got a free 20" HD monitor with it. Talk about a deal. But im not going to go in to specs but the game runs @60fps on max even during fates and that my choice. I've read before I got the PC that PS3 graphics are dull and frame rates are horrible. I got this PC by choice.

With the pc version you can change the interface for controller settings and the hot bar changes to controller interface. Excuse to play this on a Ps3 for use of controller is lame lol

I'm on the PS3 version because I need to upgrade my PC to play it. By that same token, I didn't want to a build a PC just for FFXIV. That screwed enough people during 1.0. I'm on the fence right now if I want to switch to PC or just upgrade to the PS4. I build PC's for performance for networking so not so much graphical nature. The PS4 version is where many of us would like to play. SE has already promised a discount for those with the PS3 looking to upgrade. So the PS3 is fine for now. Seriously though, the PS3 isn't a bad platform. The Fates are a problem sure, but it works great most of the time.

The PS4 should of been your real question. Most people didn't want to wait another year is all. I believe based on the PS4 specs that it would cost almost $1500 for a PC to beat it. So it's much more feasible to wait for the PS4 version for most people.

Ill tell you one thing. A lot of those crashes, disconnections and errors you pc players are getting? I've seen zero of that on the ps3 version.

Yea same here.. I hate windows 8 but I have not had even a hick up yet. I do run the game in compatibility mode though with W7 I think.

I wish they would say more about the ps4 version... I have seen very little on when they think it will release.
It should not take long really.. It is nothing but a stripped pc, the game already has joystick and mouse support.
