I just want to say MY personal biggest annoyance of the gameFollow

#1 Sep 07 2013 at 12:05 AM Rating: Good
It's not 1017, or 90k because I hardly had to deal with that.

It's not the Titan fight or a dungeon that was hard, I like a challenge and the reward of a job well done.

It's not the class or craft system either, love them!

It's seeing multiple people with the username in some form of Trayvon Martin. Seriously, whether you agree or disagree with our court systems, or the events let the kid rest in peace, there's no need to drag real world problems into a fantasy land. I doubt he ever played Final Fantasy.

Sorry, just had to say it.

I bet if you just shot them it would solve the problem.

I've seen some names that slam real-world politicians too. Sorry, but your real-life political orientations don't matter in Eorzea. Let your grand company choice do the speaking instead.

Just GM them and move on if they bug you. Such references are also up there with obscene names in terms of SE's naming policies. They may be inconvenienced with a rename, worst case a ban depending on the severity and how they talk to the responding GM.

Or lannister, or targaryn, or stark, or some FF character.

List goes on.

I wonder if the player who made Tywin Lannister jumped for joy when he got that name, thinking people were going to high 5 him in game for it. Or the 50 people who use a different spelling for it after that guy.

I honestly thought about making Clown Strife, complete with comical makeup, I mean tattoos, just to follow around every Cloud Strife wannabe.

RMT have no chance of business in this game. Gil doesn't hold much value in 14 compared to 11.

My personal biggest annoyance is seeing people constantly shout for 'must be experienced and geared'.

1. How is one to gain experience in the HM and speed runs without first joining a party or two and failing? Isn't that how the initial dungeon crawlers learned it and devised strategies?
2. The game has just barely crossed the two-week mark since early access. not even official launch. Lest we forget, a very significant portion of the playerbase weren't even able to access the game for half or more of that time period. Yet somehow, we were supposed to gain this experience and gear at 50 by now.
3. It's just asinine. If you expect competent and trustworthy players consistently, don't do a PUG. Go with people from your FC or LS. If you're not in one, join one or go to a larger one with dedicated raiding types.

I have not personally had the joy of running with a totally disastrous group as yet, and it's not that I don't understand the frustration that comes from it, or the motivation behind these shouts. It's just ridonkulous to expect a large amount of the players to already be rarin' to go 14 days in.

Done ranting.

Yeah, I saw a character named Casey Anthony.

I really don't understand what these people are thinking...

Well, you have to realize there. There HAS to be more than one person named Trayvon Martin out there in the world. Heck, i had to google just to figure out what you were talking about. I'm sure that goes for a lot of people. It's like those people in the world that are named Hitler or Jesus. Should their parents have given them another name? perhaps. But it happens, and sometimes it's innocent since they're old people who had the name before atleast one of those two choices was fairly known.

While i agree with you, and i even did the whole "/shout I found him!" when i saw a Edward Snowden ingame, sometimes you just have to ignore things like that and let them go. It's not important enough to get upset about, and either no one will care/remember in a while or they would have quit themselves over the name they picked by themselves anyhow.

Old news will be older old news eventually. Game of Thrones will end as following the end of ASoIaF. These people will come and these people will go. If you create a character with a silly name, it's probably not one you plan to play with for the long haul, and if it is, 10 years down the road no one's going to remember what it was even a reference to. Vana'diel had the kind of longevity that allowed trends to come and pass over the course of over a decade. I suspect - and hope - that the same will be true of Eorzea.

Although I agree that the name is obnoxious, I also realize that it is obnoxious in my opinion. The reality is that the concept of decency is largely subjective and regardless of how you personally feel about it, unless it can be deemed offensive to the community as a whole, it's fair game.

On a side note- another factor I've had to remember jumping from XI which is an old game to XIV:ARR which is a new game- the community is much younger here. I was used to playing almost entirely with people that ranged from late 20's to 40's. That isn't the case here. The average age has swung much lower. And with it, maturity of the community in the game. And I don't mean that as an insult as much as I am just pointing out that the attitudes and tendencies of people are a reflection of their maturity, which has a strong correlation to age. And it certainly has an affect on more than just gameplay.
