I wouldn't call it a translation error, but an unusual choice of words. They are referring urine, how animals will urinate on things to mark their territory. It's clear from the quest description that they are using it for pheromone purposes, to repel the insects from the carcasses.

So the idea is there, just the word used is unusual. There may be a better word to use to describe it.

I think they should have made it 'Cactuar ****'

That was a cool quest.
How does one get cactus ****?

Just did that quest last night. Definitely Cactuar **** you're throwing on animal corpses to attract flies. Flies you then kill. Sounds reasonable!

I've noticed several references to **** in the game early on. I even remarked to my husband that the writers must find humor in saying it. I think it was most certainly intentional. :)

This game has a lot of raunchy language in it.

Underneath the Drowning Wench, there's a pair of ladies that are mugging a Roegadyn guy, and threatening to "cut off his wick" if he doesn't give them all his money. The wick, in this case, is his *****. They are threatening to castrate him unless he coughs up cash.

In Sastasha, the NPC females all cry "I'm not one of them! I swear on what little remains of my virtue!"

Not just ****, but shite as well. Yes, that's exactly how they spell it.

Well, let's be technical here, if we're talking castration and using candle euphemisms, the wick couldn't refer to the act itself, since "wick" obviously indicates the endpoint of a phallic object. The wick, as you say, is undoubtedly his *****, but the act is not the removal of his ********** and thus not castration.

I wonder whether anyone will realize that I'm not really arguing a serious point but actually seizing a great opportunity to unite two subjects too rarely discussed on these boards: literary devices and genital mutilation.

I've noticed the word ***************** being used a lot too. Bloody this and bloody that. It's almost as if the game has been written in an Irish bar.

I have to say that the cactus **** quest and the quest where you save the guy in the bar from his “gil-pinching wife“ are two of my personal favorites!

I love when NPCs use the word 'whoreson' for some reason.

The quest where you have to shoo away the peeping toms in the desert is pretty amusing too. In fact, there are plenty of quests where the dialogue has made me chuckle. Way more mature content than XI ever was.

I for one know that when I see a guy sauntering down the streets venting about ****, whores, and sh*te, I press my lips together in a quiet smile and give him a light pat on the back just for raising the maturity levels of the general vicinity. Smiley: lol

One of my class quests the guy was talking and referred to me as a mi'qote *****, i found that amusing.

After finishing the quest myself and reading the item description, I believe that "Cactus ****" is actually an alcoholic beverage, and not literal cactuar urine.

Still funny, though.

This appears to be part of Eorzean - and in particular, Lominsan - slang. "Must needs" is also used frequently though it's generally not proper English, along with a few other things. In general, each region seems to have one or two slang words or terms thrown in as part of their dialects.

If "cactus ****" is actually an alcohol, wouldn't that be tequila?
