I figured if we reported them, we'd be rid of them.

Just like SE said, just report them under Harassment and give the name and a piece of what they're shouting about and they'd deal with it...

Today i saw the same guy i reported a few days before do his spam shout in Limsa again... So i very very much doubt anything has changed or is going to happen.

Similar experiences?

Investigating and starting a special task force are far from, "not doing anything." I don't expect things to happen overnight. Chat filter adjustments may well be included in the next update as well.

Er, wasn't there an announcement on the forums at the weekend that over 500 accounts had been banned? Yesterday morning in Ul'dah (EU time) there were several RMT shouts non-stop, and then suddenly there was none. Presumably silenced by the ban-hammer. We know SE have implemented the STF foor FFXIV, and a few people on Reddit have posted bans so there is something being done.

So you think that because they didn't get the one guy you reported, they aren't doing anything? Bullet proof logic.

Take a look at this:

/blist add "name"
click ok...
...and done.

Thats the only sure way to stop rmt spam.

Now, bots on the other hand.... go do a player search for last name "pie" on gilgamesh. Every flavor available! All the same job, level, and area!

Copypasta from the other RMT thread:

I think that since you have to be on someones friend list to send gil back and forth, SE should not only ban or move the gil-sellers themselves but also anyone who is or has been on their friends list. It would be akin to taking a network down from the inside out.

In fact, I'll take it even further. SE should leave the gil-sellers completely alone for the next month or two and THEN take everyone out. Like a spider waiting in its web.

There will be a wave of bans. And their will be bitter forum posts. As neogaf says, 'believe'.

With the inefficiency of the blist -- having to type both names manually rather than just click the name in the chatlog -- I can't wait for spammers to make names like "Ffxivgold Dotcom," just so, even by silencing them, you'll most likely be forced to remember the name of their site. Invasive advertising at its best.

What i do is right click and reply to the person, then arrow over and /blist add instead of /reply. That way i dont have to worry about spelling out their name or trying to find it.

I also wonder how many accounts are people that went to their site to buy gold and now have a hacked account that is spamming in chat. I'm waiting for the new wave of "my account got banned for suspicious activity, what can i do" threads. I think they should tell them to stop trying to cheat and go buy another copy if they want to play.

I would say though it is about time that clickable "Report Spam" and "Block sender" functionality be implimented. It has become standard for other games.

FFS give it time. You know how SE are about these things, they're ruthless. In a few days you'll see a news bulletin saying something like "Square-Enix bans 10,000 players from FFXIV."

Why don't you simply copy/paste the name from the log?
By the way: they definitely DO ban those spammers; at least the ones I was used to are gone now.
And I like the illusion that me reporting them makes me directly responsible for their demise.

Like MasterShake said, not catching one guy because you reported them. Bulletproof logic. You have to keep in mind each world holds well over 250,000+ players now. I'm also sure there are RMT spammers on every world. So just because they don't attend to one person doesn't mean it's not going to happen. Give it a few months and the RMTs will be gone. They're wasting their money anyways, that 13 dollars out of the window every month and with how many RMTs there are, well let's say the numbers are going to add up and SE is going to be making profit off them and not the other way around. They're paying SE to ban them.

I sure hope no one on my friend's list get's their account hacked and used for spamming gil sales shouts...
