Very smart move by SE! Now, everyone with a PS3 who is on the fence about whether to wait for the PS4 can just buy the game and get started.

And, people like me who'll eventually be getting a PS4 can look forward to having FFXIV right off the bat!

PS3 user here and I have to agree for more than one reason. Those of us that played FFXI always wanted a PS3 upgrade so we could get a better experience and stop hearing the term, "PS2 Limitations". Now SE has made the brilliant move to give users a reason to upgrade their PS3 copy so SE can update the game thus improving performance for all players. Yoshi is really starting to impress me, well done.

There will always be PS3 limitations, but only because not everyone with a PS3 will upgrade to a PS4, nor should they have to.

I personally will be upgrading, but that's just me... you can't force them all to go pay for the hardware upgrade.

Especially since they typically cater to the JP players first and foremost, and a much larger portion of JP players are console gamers than US players by percentage... I would expect the PS3 limitations to always be a limiting factor for the game for this reason.

I think I'll buy a copy of the PS4 edition so I can play on my Vita.

Yay. I planned to rebuy teh gam eon PS4 and PC.. now I only hav eto rebuy it on PC (i play on ps3).. But this part confuses me:

"All character data will be carried over via a "free service","

a Free service? dont all you have to do to play is logic to your account via the ps4 (or pc) and start playing.. your character data shouldnt have to be "carried over" thats not what happened on ffxi on xbox, pc or ps2.. you just signed it and played

I guess that means your settings, like your crossbar setup. That's saved client side.

Dammit, now I have to cave in and buy the PS3 version after all.

My excuse for holding off has been taken!

This game may always have ps3 limitations, but not in the same way FFXI did. They've done a very good job of designing the game with those eventual limitations in mind, so someday, the game itself won't actually be limited in its growth.
