Interesting. I guess I really have to take care to be less... imaginative in my choice of words.
For all those who are interested in what an "official SE ban email" looks like, read on! Smiley: nod

Guess you are the type who gives himself unlimited resources in strategy games, then brags to his mum (or his left hand) about winning, hahaha!

Well. To be fair, it was the second time my poisonous tongue got the better of me. The first time was 24 hours, this time
it was 240 hours. It's what you get as a "serial offender", or "constant disturbance of the forum peace and harmony".

It's o.k., and I understand why I was hit; possibly the left hand reference.
I just hate anyone who, for whatever reason, supports, glorifies, or justifies cheaters.

Btw, Wint, what is my track record here on Allakhazam?

One must not ask about score, it brings forth the horsemen(and woman, or women maybe now) of death.

I laughed at the left hand reference, I'm so going to use that the next time someone brags about dumb crap.

I had to learn the hard way that internet arguments just aren't worth it. Anonymity makes people too bold, more so then they would ever be in real life, and will continue to argue with you even after you feel you have proven yourself right.

Just let it go man... it's not worth it.

One thing that ZAM does really well that the official forums could use is a real karma system that gives a negative karma button in addition to a positive one. Their system is more like a facebook then a true karma... ZAM and Reddit both use negative karma to dissuade trolls from taking it too far.

I've seen a guy go from Sage down to Scholar here on ZAM for not giving up on his argument and continuing to flame on, and you know what... I say good for ZAM! We don't need angry hate filled flame wars here... there are plenty of those elsewhere.

You start with a 24hr ban? I went straight to a 10 day ban for suggesting SE was less than competent with their server infrastructure at launch......

Also, Dear Customer = SE looking for phishers to emulate them.

Man they're draconian over there. All I can see in your history here is a 24 hour mute for breaking the NDA for the first XIV beta.

Thanks for the update!

And as I said: the moderator may have been a little trigger-happy, but, according to the SE
forum guidelines, he was perfectly within the range of his "legal" options. No hard feelings.

There is an awful lot of inane drivel posted on the official forums, some of the posts on the "Zero evidence of Deflation" and the "Make Mithra's my bums bigger, I want my e-booty call" threads make me want to either cry or rage. I generally try to avoid the OF altogether, it's better for my general well-being.

Their rules are outrageously strict too. You're only allowed so many posts per day until you're cut off til the next day.

I guess it comes with the territory being that it is the where the devs and stuff post at.

Interesting that you mention the "zero deflation" thread; I realized I was banned when I tried to reply to it. I am not LV 50 yet (just like the OP), so I cannot verify the veracity of both side's claims, but personally I think the OP commits a grave mistake by stating that you "should" level a craft in order to make some money. If 90% (fictional statistic made up on the spot, naturally) of the population simply have no interest in crafting, and then have the option to either

a) craft or
b) be poor

that indeed seems a little questionable... doesn't it? As I said, my 50s are all on legacy servers, so I cannot really judge; up to 34, I had no problems with money whatsoever.

Edit:
Forget it, here's the answer I needed: http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?forum=152&mid=1378736933295834196&p=3

I have a few 50's, but I've not been spamming dungeons. My money has been quite constant, I'm used to farming/crafting and saving from FFXI though (and I quite enjoy it in a way), so it doesn't bother me. What a lot of people don't seem to realise is the game was designed so you would level classes across the board, and the steady progression would be easier financially. If you don't want to craft, then farm; dailies are getting introduced in 2.1 which I assume will be a gil fountain of some kind, plus it's still a launch game so the economy may very well get tweaked over time. I do think that considering a reduction of repair costs at higher levels may be a valid point, especially if they increase the level cap in future.

Now, back on topic, how did the OP know the guy he was answering in the official forums was a lefty?

They can craft, farm, or be be poor. There are some materials out there that are pricey, and there's more than one way to farm besides just killing stuff.

Eventually once tougher NMs are out there some folks can start merccing kills, but considering the game is less than a month old now, I'm not surprised the mercenary option isn't really an option yet.

I'm no troll either, my first offence netted me a 10 day ban (and never even a glance in my general direction on this forum). Maybe if you state something anti-SE or anti-SE staff they hit you with 10 days, which is a shame, that "my ISP is classifying my traffic as P2P" I could have sorted in 2 minutes....

Wireshark > Monitor traffic from FFXIV for 5 seconds > Check Differentiated Services Field (mines 0x00 = titanium priority) > open Torrent > monitor traffic for 5 seconds > Check DSF again > if the field is the same (0x00... bugger or 0x20) then it's in the same priority queue as P2P. Now I know that XIV isn't being prioritised correctly by my ISP I'm going to go email them to add XIV to the proper queue (0xa0)

Well, I guess the rule is "write whatever lunatic crap you want to, but do it in a rated T for Todd Flanders
( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VD9gzqaAfL0 ) way".

I would like to keep posting on Allakhazam for the next ten days, so I will refrain from going into technical details.

Here's mine. I really don't see how I was the negative one, the thread was bashing SE all day long, and when I say it's up to the players, I get banned. 10 day as well.

In all honesty the SE forums are almost unusable.

You are restricted to 1000 words? WTF? Tried to make a Dragoon guide, ended up having to cut out so much I just exited the browser.
Post cout per day? Why? Why do they make me wait 24 hours to perhaps respond to someone I was having a forum discussion with?

Also it looks like it was made in 1996. The lay out is terrible where I have to click on the englsh sub forum then scroll all the way down to even see General Discussion. For a game with many classes and combos it doesn't separate classes, just by DPS/TANK/HEAL so its incredibly hard to find info on your class when its jumbled with all the other DPS possibilities.

I know its a Japanese game and all, but I cant tell you how many times (prior to buying the game) I went to the forums and closed it out seeing only Japanese text I assumed I was on the wrong forum.

So like everyone else I go to a third party forum for functional forums. Try mmorpg.com...get banned within a day after responding to someone stating the game is a buggy mess and unplayable, since its not. I get banned the guy flaming bs and using profanity remains. Oh it was a forever banned type thing...which I find crazy given I was new there...

And then I find this site. Actual discussions about the game...check...active moderators that are not retarded and biased...check...no spam about review "why I hate this game" "im suing SE they ruined my life" ect...check

Also there is a vote up and down system...which honestly how hard is it to do this these days...

I see no need to use SE's forums.

Oh my! That IS you. I thought that name looked familiar, because it goes hand in hand with one of the best Forum remarks I have ever read, which can be found here.

http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?forum=319&mid=128390625213191171#18

You captured my point beautifully to the person I was 'arguing' with. Would have quoted it, but included whole thread for anyone that wanted a chuckle. Sorry, it was off topic. As for the issue, they could ban me for life from the official forums and I wouldn't flinch. That place is more like a festering disease than a stimulant for meaningful conversation.

Both sides of an argument can be negative. You might think you're trying to argue a positive point, but your words are negative. How you say things is just as important as what you say. And that doesn't just go for Internet forums. It's true for life in general.

@DragonBourne
Somehow it terrifies me when I think about all the books I could have written in the time I spent making below-the-beltline jokes on internet forums.
But then I think about WoW running on a microwave display, and my mood lightens up considerably.
