I think its getting all the good credit it deserves. As much as there has been problems at launch, SE really has turned this game around into a very enjoyable experience.

Did that guy say that fates would overshadow endgame dungeons?

Does he not know how many tombs you need from the 44-50 dungeons to get your HM ready gear?

Also, he seems to like crafting but said it cant compete with endgame gear. I thought the point of crafting (aside from enjoyment) was to make money and gear your alt classes...not gear yourself for endgame. Does anyone have maxed crafting, im really curious how it would compare to level 50 GC gear and dungeon gear. Cant imagine it being comparable to tomb purchased HM gear though.

Also I felt disappointed that the music didn't get mention. Oh...and they made the graphics worse from 1.0? I swear they improved graphics...though I could be wrong.

i got maxed carpenter, best two items i can make are ilevel 55 and 70, the 55 should be good enough for starting out at endgame and its pretty easy to make, plus its the weapon required for BRD/DRG relic weapon quest, the 70 one requires an obscene amount of control to make(318) and stat-wise loses to HM primal weapons and up, the upside is that you can meld stuff into it(2 slots) so if you manage to get 5 materia i bet it could get beastly.

Hmm so there might be potential in crafted stuff beyond 50 then...good to hear.

The more I think about it, the more I hate reviews like this (despite it was positive about a game I like). Its just some guy who probably didn't play more than an hour and reading a bullet point of things he probably read on a forum or were handed to him by the developers.

Lets be honest, the guy really doesn't sound like he knows what hes talking about....you just cant review a mmorpg without playing it for ages imo. Id have been happier if they just said "its not buggy, it looks and sounds good, people seem to like it" but then that would be boring I guess lol

HQ 2 star items are equivalent of Dark Light/Primal Weapon to the exact amount of stat bonus but with the ability to meld materia.

For example my Obelisk HQ has same Damage,STR, VIT bonus and swap point between ACC/SPEED bonus with Garuda. Instead of 20 Acc/29 Speed it's 29 Acc/20 Speed. Garuda only better staff is super amazing 13 Wind Resistance (oh wow). On the other hand, I slotted 19 Determination 6 Crit Rate on my HQ Obelisk.

What happen though, is that certain Materia are not easy to meld due to inherent cap. You can't meld STR on weapon/body pieces because it's capped right off the bat. Mostly you can only meld secondary stat like Parry, Determination, Speed, Acc, Crit Rate.

There is no iLvl 90 crafted item. If they do release though I'm sure HQ version has exact same stat as AF2/Allaghan and Relic.

347 Craftsmanship/318 Control is easily achievable with Food. To get it (both stat in one set) you will need HQ AF crafter clothes + Materia + Relic Tool/Luminary Tool + HQ Militia offhand tools. I've got 335 Craftsmanship 323 Control and I only have 1 piece of HQ AF clothes.

Do lvl 1 -> 5 -> 10 -> 15 -> 20 -> 25 -> 30 -> 35 -> 40 -> 45 -> 50 quest for DoH/DoL. The lvl 50 quest reward Relic tool (same stat as Luminary). Super easy. I call it Relic because the tool give you a unique (bad *** looking) crafting table during synthesis sequence.

Was coming here to post the link :)

I don't disagree with any of the review directly. Best part of the review :

As for the end game? So far, its ambitious mix of hard-mode dungeons and raids looks to justify its subscription plan, and the challenges I've seen in the existing dungeons seem potent enough to bring me back for future content. At the risk of hyperbole, during my time with Final Fantasy XIV I've felt the most involved in an MMORPG ever since the classic release of World of Warcraft, and I'm eager to see what Square Enix accomplishes with it over the coming months and years.

So overall IGN thinks that game's done well, but worries about the effects of the Duty Finder on social play as well as the boring nature of FATEs?

Good god, this may be the first time I agree with IGN.

What has Yoshida done to me!?

So that's what all the fuss over FATE pt spam is all about. Didn't realize it was being abused to the point of neglecting party mechanics. Glad I haven't sucked into that just yet. Personally looking forward to the up coming dungeons. Here's hoping I don't get kicked from pt for actually enjoying the storyline as it happens...

It's hard to agree with IGN at times but I think this was a very accurate review. Everything the author mentioned I have seen: the huge accomplishments and the impending failures if things are not changed.

If I were you, I would try to do the two final dungeons during peak times. You'll just get people who whine about others watching the storyline any other time. It is so ridiculous to see.

There's no way I'd ever skip through cutscenes during my first time watching. I'll just state that at the start of the run, and leave if they'd rather have a different tank.

The current alternatives are just not good enough, specifically levequest for DoW/DoM/DoL.

DoW/DoM levequest at lvl 40 give a small sum of around 5,500 EXP as a base, when you start needing something like 350k a level. Toward the end of 1.00, you could solo like 10-20 leves for a lvl at higher 40s. Now you have to solo 35-50 leves a level at early 40s... The completion bonus is also capped at 25%, not good enough to sustain performing well. DoL fare a little bit better, with 10-15 levequest a level. However at the same time unlike 1.00 they can't gather any item that is not levequest item (and will be taken away upon completion). Again, completion bonus is capped at 25% and unlike DoW/DoM to achieve this you need to slot a lot of Materia into your gear to raise % gathering on the higher level item to get more score.

Guildhest doesn't reward enough to encourage people to join. We could do without more EXP but how about specific drop like the old 1.00 Faction Leves? Those stuff are now moved exclusively to Dungeons.

Dungeons can see a slight boost to EXP to encourage more people trying it.

Also rework the Materia cap system, the current Materia cap works exclusively in favour of DPS. Healer might get some benefits but that's only from Determination/Crit Rate. Currently, very few people outside of crafters/gatherers bother to make Materia at high-end because only very few people actually use them (like Bluegartr).

Fishing is an exception for the DoL. Awesome XP just grinding. Also, not that it's needed, I tried a leve out in Coerthas and it's a triple turn in one like the DoH get.

No, it was ZAM who was bought by IGE..IE the Gil sellers. Here is one link that talks about it, but be warned, it's a mess. IGN is supported by Gamestop. I'm not sure which company is worse, RMT or Gamestop:P

IGE's parent company, RPG Holdings, purchased Allakhazam.com in November 2005,as announced in May 2006. This purchase followed that of ThottBot.com.

During late 2006 and 2007, Debonneville was forced out of the company. Later Debonneville sued Pierce for various reasons related to an investment made by Goldman Sachs a year earlier, which Debonneville ended winning in a settlement.

IGE tried to restructure its upper management team by recruiting new executives. IGE began to lose revenue due to the frequent deletion of accounts involved in trading. In 2007, a lawsuit was filed against IGE by Antonio Hernandez for "substantially impairing and diminishing [player's] collective enjoyment of the game."

During the final months of IGE leading to its reformation, the board of directors decided to sell the company to their former partner Jonathan Yantis. IGE's parent company was then renamed Atlas Technology Group Inc,which is owned by Yantis, while Brock went with Affinity Media.

Affinity Media was said to be one of the parent companies of IGE, though the company no longer has any ownership stake. Affinity Media's senior vice president of business development John Maffei, noted that "we’re no longer in that business." Affinity retains control of Allakhazam.com, Thottbot.com, and has since purchased Wowhead.com.

If Yoshida and his team want to nip the coming issue of Duty Finder harassment and general acts of douche-baggery, they can at least add the option to search out a party for your own server. Player's are shouting for parties all the time in zones, so I think it makes sense to add an option on the duty finder to search out a party for your server only.

That and never allow a player to name change a character. Ever. If someone wants to get labeled an **** to play with in their own community, then so be it.

Never mind, it looks as if they will do so after patch 2.1:

Addition of a party recruitment window
We’ll be implementing a bulletin board type of system where you can recruit party members that are only on your world. When recruiting, you can indicate the dungeon you would like to do, the roles you are looking to recruit, the levels, etc. (We’ll be announcing the details soon.)

As a tank, I always ask whether there are any newcomers. If so, I tell them I'll explain the boss mechanics right before the boss,
and to be sure to lean back and watch all the cutscenes. And if anyone complains... I care **** about it. Because this is a game.
Well, maybe I'll forget to flash once or twice. Accidently.

My take on this is more that there aren't enough crafters to meld mid-level and higher gear. If you do find one via shouting or whatever (and wasting time, to boot), odds are they'll want to charge you a mint because they know there's little competition. As such, for gear when leveling you know you'll be replacing in a few hours of solid play, skipping materia may actually be the wiser move financially until you're working with endgame gear.

Though, I do find there no AF+2 counterparts saddening. The why not probably involves the perpetual conditioning of the hardcore crowd hating how someone could visit the AH and get the same gear. Though my usual take on this is raid gear is simply too grindy, as such encouraging their vehement defense. With enough rarity and expense, the time required to actually buy a piece should ideally be comparable to running a dungeon X times. But even then they fall back to the tired excuse how you wouldn't need such gear for overworld stuff, which is ultimately just telling certain types of players they have no reason to keep playing once they hit 50 here.
