World Transfer could change everything?Follow

So I've been doing some thinking, I'm on Ultros, and seeing as how a good amount of people on here are there as well we all know IT'S FULL! Plus I'm seeing a lot of players talking about friends not being able to play etc etc. So do you think that once the world transfer comes out it will sorta work itself out? like enough players will leave server A causing people to be able to populate other servers and new players to take their spots? Or do you think people will just **** and moan about overcrowding?

10+ years of MMO experience kinda tells you the answer to that already, i fear...

This situation won't change if they insist on charging for transfers, too. I'm one of those people who feel transfers should be free once a week like Rift does. On top of that, they really need to multiply the numbers by 2-3x and encourage populations to maybe be about half of what they are now on the existing words to cut down on crowded zone choking. Improve cross-server functionality from there and the ideal goal should be it doesn't matter what server you're actually on when it comes to making friends and doing things together with possible guest features.

I think we should all rub our braincells together this time, with this MMO, and say "If the crowding is a problem, then please consider moving to a new server. Like, if people with 1200 facebook friends are complaining that they can't accomplish what they want to accomplish with the game, there are brand new servers up for them to make hay.

And.. I'm just going to say it. I know it won't be popular and I know I'll get rated down to all ****-out for saying it, but *insert Doctor Cox voice here* G-Damnit it's really got to be said..

Guys, we're about three or four weeks into this game. Half of you were unable to connect for a week or two of even that. What is it that has you so emotionally attached to a character at this point to make the decision in your heads "You know what, this is an MMORPG I plan on playing for years and years with my friends, but I simply CANNOT be ***** to make a server change after a couple weeks so that I can move to another server and actually play this game with the friends I originally intended to enjoy this game with."

Hey, if I were in those shoes, I'd be incredibly tempted to play a game of Chicken with SE too and hope that they do server-changes. It would be an equitable solution to a lot of issues. That being said. The longer you play this game of chicken, the more and more insane hours you are putting into a character that may not be ever able to play with said friends unless you splash money on a server change. So, please, at least consider that your own stubborness may in fact be hampering you from having a great time with this game.

They will **** and moan about overcrowding, undercrowding and mediumcrowding. Its not about what happens. It just has to happen.

Just putting on my snarky hat, but I would venture to guess it's the same mentality that has a portable personal computer that can beam a satellite and hit a server, downloading movies real-time to said personal computer from a server on the opposite side of the world while simultaneously playing a game that connects to a different server in a different part of the world. We're all guilty of it, it's just the world moves so fast we take all that for granted.

On that same note, there's no glory in software development. The only time you really get noticed is when something bad happens. sure the top level designers like Yoshi get all the credit, but the devs themselves, and their IT counterparts are slaves to the grind...

It doesn't have to be an emotional attachment. It's an investment of time and money. Listen to what you're actually suggesting. Most people intended to enjoy the game with friends and due to circumstances out of their control, they were unable to. It's like going to a restaurant with a group of friends and being forced to sit at different tables until dessert is served. Your only alternative was to leave and go to another restaurant and hope they had the space for you and your friends to sit together.

Server transfers are great, especially if they're free. That doesn't excuse the fact that for weeks friends were unable to play together unless they were all available to login and create characters on whatever world was open in the short window's that they were.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

Its not always quite as easy as "lulz just reroll guys". My husband's on a different server than I am, because the server me and our group of friends is on has been locked from day one. Rerolling our entire linkshell on a new server for him just isn't feasible at this point, as we've got roots and level 50s and a FC already invested in the game.

I wonder if they'll implement draconian transfer rules like you can only carry over what you can fit in your Armory bags. All your gil and other possessions are forfeit to prevent RMT mules from transferring gil between servers.

I would find me a chair and put it near the table.
