Chocobo Companion Levelling SlowFollow

Hi guys, just wondering if anybody knows how to level the Chocobo Companion up faster?

Mine is currently Rank 3 and his progress bar has barely moved even though I bring him out all the time lately.

Is there some secret to getting him exp faster?

I'm confused on this and can't really find any information online about it, it's all guides to opening the quest, etc.

Thanks!

Have your FC use the ability to give your companion Extra EXP for 24 hours.

Well I'm not sure I want to have the FC take away the reduced teleport fees buff just so I can get more exp on my Chocobo...

Thanks for the answer though...

So is it just a painfully slow boring grind for the companion then?

I'm trying to at least get rank 4 so "Chocobro" can at least cast Cure on me.

I just pull him out for quests, Fates, and farming right now... any other ideas?

Nobody knows how to level up their Chocobo Companion faster? I'm stumped, I was hoping someone on ZAM would know more about this topic.

My next answer might be counter productive to what you want, but fight level 50 mobs. Your Choco will get more exp

Someone told me to level them with lower level classes because the Chocobo's tnl is proportional to yours. I have no idea if that's actually true, though.

That can't be true. You can turn in one quest at 1 and level up.

Currently there is no way to speed up leveling your companion. It is painfully slow. At first it was thought your companion only gains exp if you do, this is not the case. My companion has gone from lvl 3-4 while i was using him w/ my lvl 50 SCH. Also, your companion does not appear to get exp from bonuses such as FATE completion bonus. I say this because my companion did not gain any exp what so ever after doing DD and gogo in North Than, but he did get exp while delay killing the mobs in DD.

I actually posted a thread on the FFXIV main forum to see if anyone had any ideas... but it's the same there...

Someone said just kill low level stuff, you don't have to get exp... but everyone said that's not true...

Then I saw someone say pull them out on a low level job, they will rank up faster.... but others say no that's not true either... nobody seems to know the answer.

all i know for sure is they do not get the fate completion bonus. My companions bar didn't move an inch after completing gogo in North than and that was 27k exp. if the bar didn't move with that amount of exp, god help those of us who want to level our companions.

Your Chocobo gains experience based on your current experience cut in half. So if you fight a mob that gives 1k Exp. Your Chocobo is going to get 500. Your Chocobo levels as fast as you want them to level. Your best bet for leveling your Chocobo is a chain party, abuse the Chain Bonus. Getting up to about CB of 5 or higher will net you some yummy experience for you companion. I hope this helps. My officer Darth Bane tested this in our server on multiple mobs. He would fight a mob his level, check the experience, pull his companion out, fight the same mob. Watch his experience get cut in half. So my overall suggestion is find a FATE party and don't worry about the actual reward from the FATE itself, but go for the multiple-mob chain bonuses. Your Chocobo should level rather quickly from it.

I haven't even started leveling up my bird yet... I guess I should start chipping away at that.

Is there really a need to have a leveled chocobo at rank 50, or is it just something extra for when you're running around?

If it's just an extra thing, I may just level it when I eventually take my next class up to 50, but I've still got a ways to go on gladiator.

The DPS one is effective at level 1. I hear the other two are meek. It is just an extra thing and not needed for now.

I usually set my FFXI companion to DD or support.. Never would rely on it for tanking.

Go that route here too.. the chocobo is incapable of holding threat from a dps that's even sort of awake.

Yeah, DD or healer is the only way to go with the choco right now. Most of us would have higher level chocos if two things were allowed to occur:

1. They were usable within instances fights, such as those concerning the main story and jobs/classes.
2. You could actually use them while waiting on duty finder to pop you into your instance.

Why neither of these was setup from the start is beyond me. As it is, either using it constantly on multiple classes while leveling or chain parties is the only way to get decent exp for it.

^This is about your only option.

I personally think that there are 2 big problems with the companion system:
1) We can't use another mount while the companion is outside
2) We can't use the duty finder either.

Until those two are addressed I don't think there will be a lot of situations when I want to take out my chocobo other than completing a high level entry of the hunting log.

I just found something nice out. The Level 49 FATE....that has like uhh...5 phases I think. Milderb the Terrible or whatever her name is. I think the whole thing is called Dark Devices. It starts South East of Bluefog and pops once every hour. I think in the :30 mark. So 7:30 next would be 8:30 etc etc. Ok, but getting to the point. I partied with someone there while leveling to 50 and he came up with a neat trick. Granted you'll need adequate people for this to work, but what you do is the following.

1. Don't kill the main objective monsters. (Lunatics, etc etc.)
2. Kill just the adds that spawn in and chain kill them.
3. Keep doing this until about the 4-5:00 Mark on the timer. I mean if you want to fail it and just chain go ahead.

What happens is the adds will keep spawning and you'll rack up a chain bonus like mad. I got a chain bonus of +9 and netted about almost 1.1k per mob that died. You'll need however a very good tank to keep the objective mobs off the party while the DPS takes down the spawned in adds. You can keep doing this up until about Phase 3 or 4 I believe, then that's when the boss pops. But even then have you tank, tank the boss. But I do warn you the last boss will take you a VERY long time to kill. I ended up netting 30k out of the entire fight at the end plus the chain bonuses I got. I didn't bring my Chocobo out, but I'd imagine your yellow feathered friend would level up very nicely.

The only two super grindy methods that I found to make my Chocobo companion's rank bar to advance were;

1. Chain pulling mobs that are +1/+2/+3 in level to me while setting my companion in DD stance.
2. AoE farming with my BLM while setting my companion in Healing stance.

The biggest drawback is not being able to use a mount while your companion is deployed. One would have to resort to keeping a full stack of greens so you can keep dismissing your companion if you need to move around the zone a lot. I wish my Chocobo could earn some XP while my gathering jobs are active or maybe have some crafting/gathering support stances that grants buffs.

Chocobo Companions Chocoblock to many other activities to make them useful. I used mine for FATEs for awhile but when they are so spread apart and you have mobs,of players, running past you while mounted it makes using thing inconvenient.

That video that is linked is advice on leveling a chocobo, but the person in the video isn't even max rank on his bird.

My name is Project Stfu on Sargatanas server. You can contact me with questions in game about it if you want.

This is me:

http://i.imgur.com/0IdNTjU.jpg

There are a few ways to do it, but I am going to tell you the single fastest way I know of to level your chocobo and what got me to rank 10.

It is still not something you can do in an afternoon, it will take a few sessions and probably a week to get max rank.

First go to the following spot I marked on this map:

http://i.imgur.com/7xj7rjS.jpg

Once there you will notice a ton of level 50 monsters in the area, now you grind them. Preferably you are on whm so you can stoneskin yourself, collect them all up and Holy them dead, repeat.

Now solo this is slow, so to maximize your speed, you will want to invite 3 other people and make a full party of 4 people + 4 chocobos.

There is a ice rock in the middle of the cave, when you gather them use it to LOS them all so they group up, then AOE them down.

This will grind you several hundred thousand exp per hour.

That is all there is to it.

Shove random accessories on for spirit bonding and getting your awesome water materia and go find some high level mobs - grind.

I found I got about a set of spiritbonded gear per level - it's something I do now and then when I get bored or not able to pay decent attention to the game basically.

I am just completely pissed off that you can only get the specalised barding by completing one full skill tree. I'd already put points into attack and heal before this was known, so I can't now fill a tree. I really hope SE allows us to reset the Chocobo Skills soon.

Also, when leveling with your chocobo I'm pretty sure you get two XP gained lines, the first for you and the second for your chocobo. That should make it easier to see how much XP the bird is getting?

^ this

There are 2 xp lines shown per kill, one which is for you, one for the chocobo. At lvl 50, only 1 line is shown, which is the chocobo's xp, so it should be easy enough to keep track of it's progress. As choco xp is related to the mobs lvl in relation to the players, at 50 you need to ideally be killing lvl 50 mobs, so those people that say it can be easier to lvl the chocobo on lower lvl jobs are right :-)

Unless you get into a lvl 50 holy spam party that is lol...
