would i be right in guessing you cant turn items into materia that are unique/untradable? (i.e the starting racial gear) even if its 100% spiritbound?

Now can you do it to items that are "binding" even if theyre 100% spiritbound?

actually the starting racial gear CANT be converted into materia.. so so much for "everyone but you can"

Also the level 5 "custom made xxxxx" gear says its convertible and is 100% spiritbound but I dont have the option to convert it. So would anyone whos actually capable like to answer the question?

(btw i like how the above poster gets rated up for being a **** Im willing to bet i get the opposite treatment for returning the favor)

Not sure if this answers your question but the option to convert gear into materia must be unlocked via main quest. Level 20 I believe.

You can't convert any gear that is Not-Convertible.

Most gear you can convert just fine. I'm not sure what the criteria are for something to be not-convertible, but there you are.

This, and it says so in item description.

I have the materia assimilation ability.

I have gear in my armory that says its convertible, and its also 100% spiritbound. But when I use materia assimilation and go to my armory section the gear that i want to convert isnt on the liar despite it sayings its convertible and its 100% spiritbound

THAT is the issue im having >.>

That's odd. What happens when you right-click the gear and select Convert from the menu?

I ditched all the starting gear so I can't confirm, but I'm pretty sure "convert" doesn't even show up on the options for gear that isn't eligible.

I'm on ps3 as well and I find right clicking before left clicking doesn't always bring up the menu list I want ( like when trying to dye gear). Instead of right clicking (X), hover over the item and left click (square).

What's the item?
I have come across a fair number of things that can't be converted and plenty that also can't be sold. Had to trade them to an npc when I unlocked sergeant 2nd class (I think it was) or the other option was dropping them.

The ability to convert to materia and the ability to set it are 2 different quests.

Haven't really done this enough to know, but can you convert broken items?
