Things you want to see implemented in FFXIVFollow

Based on a friend's experience, I'd like to see alternative methods to gain experience points added. It would also be nice if they eased up on the level requirements for quests also.

I'm not subbed, but based on being around for a friend playing; her main gripe about the game is leveling. She was only really interested in PLD, but even with being that specialized she's gotta level several classes to the 30s for cross-class abilities. Doesn't seem like a tall order, but even following my advice she's having trouble.

Told her to take up marauder first so she'd get some experience tanking in groups since you have to finish the dungeons to advance the story and unlock all the necessary stuff for later. Don't take up any professions, don't spend money on teleports and only do normal quests and FATEs as well as killing anything within a reasonable level difference on the way. No sweat.

Her next class was conjurer. I told her to unlock the class and then do the starter quests for any professions she might want and even those she didn't. That was good for the first few levels and got her enough to get started, but after the level 10 class quest the gaps came much sooner than they did on her first class. I told her to go ahead and unlock the guildleves at camps as well as doing guildhests to bridge gaps. She's done OK with that, but still has pretty large gaps.

She's excited about the game and the jobs, but put off by the fact that it will always come down to the exact same leveling path every time after the first. She also pointed out that you can accept quests before you can actually turn them in. Doesn't really make sense to her(or myself either) that you can accept a level 25 quest at level 23 and complete the quest, yet you can't turn it in until you hit 25 and when you do all you get is the same reward despite the increased difficulty. FATEs are always available but unless you have AoE to spam, your contribution is almost always lower than it could/should be.

tl;dr

Need more quests, should allow quests to be turned in a few levels early and FATE frequency and contribution need to be adjusted.

I don't like to gripe about these things, but this weekend, I finally got to Cancer the crab at the beginning of the fight for a chance at the achievement. I went as a summoner, but because the tank died early in the fight, I popped out Titan on Surecast speed-dial almost right away and tanked Cancer for pretty much 95% of the fight, keeping Titan alive dropping DoTs and using a Bane-spread Miasma to get away from the adds trying to murder me. The fight was considerably long since I'm PST hours and it was getting kind of late, so there weren't a lot of helpers around.

So, once the fight ended I figured for sure, there's no way I could not possibly deserve the gold medal. I tanked. I DPSed. I healed. I crowd controlled. But lo and behold when the fight ended, all I got was a silver. But even more infuriating? At least 3 other people got gold because their achievement was announced in the chat log! Argh! What does it take for a summoner to get gold? Smiley: glare

Job change? Seriously... for anyone who played FFXI in the past few years, it reminds me of WoE. Though I registered with my endgame LS as a COR, I was forced to come as a highly undergeared BLM because people took issue with me getting all the spoils.

For the FATEs that aren't a single large mob, all it takes is someone standing where mobs spawn and spamming AoE to tag them. I don't really care that FATEs are incredibly boring(at least, most of them are when leveling), but if you're inside the marked area and using abilities then you should get a guaranteed amount.

She just did the same FATE twice. First completion she got something like 1100 and the next one she did in a group... 11k Smiley: disappointed

I really wish people would stop wishing this game was more like FFXI. It doesnt need to be, trust me.

Who the hell wants content that excludes specific jobs or NMs on a multiple hour spawn timer that can be easily claimed by a bot every time it pops? Are you masochistic or something? Do you hate fun?

I could see solo dungeons, not "Hero" mode versions of currently deployed ones, but new ones that progress a story as a good endgame "dungeon". But they'd have to create lots of them or create them in a way that repeating them doesn't equate to what you'd consider "spammy". Sadly, endgame at launch of any game is going to be some sort of hamster wheel--even if it's PvP, that's just a different grind, maybe not for gear; even for glory you're doing the same damn thing over and over.

The big thing I want to see an MMO do is offer equal progression outside the dungeon/raid sphere. Yes, I know the people who like that will ***** to high heavens about how they feel people don't deserve such progress or that people don't need that kind of gear growth for the open world, but in the end I just see it as a Game Over for those who can't commit reliably to the dungeon/raid scene and you seriously can't call vanity options, housing, or other little mini-games a substitute.

Solo dungeons are certainly an option, but I'd wiggle leves in here, too. Crafting should also be equally accessible without requiring dungeon/raid drops. GC seal equipment is also a method, it just needs higher tiers to pull that off. Repeatable (not daily/weekly) quests to work toward another possible currency wouldn't hurt. And of course new story content in general. So, while in theory the hardcore may be able to grind this out at a fair pace and bemoan there's nothing to do, they are not the target audience and they only have themselves to blame for playing beyond the norm. The only true concession I'd be willing to make here is letting dungeon/raid gear be prettier with all the glows and sparkles some yearn for, and while the alternative doesn't look bad, perhaps if on equal gear footing, they'll have a better chance to chase the shiny gear if they do get the chance. Right now, more people are inclined to not bother because time and connections simply aren't on their side.

To better perpetuate all this, I'd certainly love to see more dynamic zones fueled perhaps by FATE chains. Given the beastmen/primal influence, you can have them conquering hubs (even from each other) with the player objective to try and reclaim. Given enough build-up, you might even see Odin/Behemoth tier open-world primal fights with new tricks for the more hardcore to take on, too. Of course, if the players are holding the terrain, they'll have more access to those quests I alluded to, possibly bonus vendors, and perhaps even outright perks like lower teleport costs or increased mount speeds. Just get people out in the world doing stuff.

I would love to see more traditional leveling options in the open world. Open-world party level sync would be a good start, the FATE sync's are nice but running from place to place for them and skipping everything else isn't my cup of tea.

I also agree the "game begins at end-game" philosophy worries me. For everyone that enjoys character development and the change in play that can occur (Red Mage before & after Refresh in XI for example) this basically means the game ends at end-game. Hopefully the team at SE keeps this in mind as they raise cap and don't make level 50-60 more 1-week long EZ mode FATE spamming. Additionally, I would like to see more depth added into crafting & gathering classes, and new spawn points/drops added to existing areas occasionally to keep the older areas fresh.

Finally, where dungeons are concerned, please SE remove party restrictions. I already have DF people showing up in their underwear with a weapon and then proceeding to steal all the hate when I'm tanking. For my 2 friends we pressed on and completed the run although it was somewhat painful at times. If I can complete a dungeon with 2 friends and this kind of 4th player behavior I'm pretty sure the 3 of us can clear the content ourselves. Let us decide how many people we are taking in (at or below the maximum allowed) and what jobs we want to use. Hell, if we want to try 3 DD jobs let us give it a try.

LOL, though this does remind me, I'll add a request straight from my wife (I swear) ... "Better mage clothes that show more skin" at least in some of the earlier levels.

I can understand how SE wants to avoid being like some MMO's that have gone overboard with cleavage and generally skimpy female outfits. But the main goal here should be choice. Most other MMO's don't provide church-lady armor. In FFXIV ARR that's pretty much all you get, at least up to the lvl 30-ish point my wife is at.

In short, I agree with him, but I doubt anyone who knows me here would be surprised by that sentiment. I played XI for a long time. It had a hell of a lot of flaws. Accessibility of content was one of its primary offenders. When content, in turn, manifests as a limited resource like (H)NMs, it offers incentive for people to cheat and pretty much creates tiers of haves and have-nots when RL time is involved. As an example, I've yet to see the Behemoth FATE and only seen Odin twice. You could probably call these 24 hour NMs, give or take. Sure, there's nothing super associated with them other than an achievement for each, but you can bet plenty are OCD about filling out that screen.

I'd like to see the alternative levelling methods that are worth it. I'd like something like a party bonus outside of fates like if 4-8 people formed a party and went to zones ahead of their level and killed mobs the xp was worth it, just as an option (not even sure if it wouldn't already work) not something you have to do to level like in XI just another option for people who want it.

Another thing I think would be cool if when you finished a level range or even every few mobs in your hunting log an NM would pop for you in that mob class. Maybe dropping something in the level range with +1 stats or something. This would eliminate the timed spawn NM's but keep NM's in the game. If that made any sense

I've done parties in the open environment with friends (mostly during beta) and it's not great XP but it can be easy fun. Tried 9+ level mobs (lvl 30 mob, we were level 21) the other day with just 2 of us but had some trouble connecting, partly because I was using trash equipment. We could probably survive though if I had good gear so I may give that another go.

Biggest issue still comes down to level sync, which we don't currently have in the open areas. If you're not closely matched with your party mates the lower level player(s) get screwed on XP earned.

Oh, and @Catwho, the wife approves - she loves that outfit. Now I have to help her find it!
