I'd hope so.

Think about the alternative: They introduce new content that awards better gear. Maybe even costs Tomestones of Mythology too... and there's still the AF+1 there costing the same but strictly inferior.

correct me if im wrong but didnt they say relic would ALWAYS be the best weapon? and they would provide updates to it every patch or what not to make sure it stays on top?

Someone did the math and it currently takes 5 months to get all your AF+1 gear thanks to cost and weekly cap for one class.

so then youre saying before that 5 months is even up. SE woulda released new stuff thats supposedly better and all that work youre working towards (and not even finished) is now outclassed by something else. thus you wasted your time for 3 months?

No no one said gear was being outdated, just tomes needed were getting chopped down

Looks like that's exactly what they said.

Last time I checked content did not mean gear. They are adding two hard mode dungeons, mayhaps they will drop tomes and gear equivalent to AK.

That is an SE spokesperson plainly referring to the currency used to buy gear. And this gear is used to access the content you otherwise can't get to without it.

You need gear to reach content which lets you get more gear so you can get to more content, and so on.

Maybe you don't understand, but NOBODY is going to do Crystal Tower and other endgame raids UNLESS gear progression is included. Yoshi isn't requiring gear checks for his health. You need that stuff so #1, you're prepared and #2 you've done the earlier content. SE isn't going to blatantly say new armors are coming and the old stuff is out-dated, but it's implied.

the difference is this.

lets ssay Im saving up money for the best NVIDIA card there is right now. I reach or get close to that goal but havent puchased it yet. Then i see a new or better one is coming out. I just start saving up for that one instead and forget about the previous one.

at that rate i lost/wasted nothing. thats better than getting 3 out of 5 piece of AF +1 then all of a sudden a new set of armor comes out thats better and now you have to start working on that whereas that af+1 you didnt even get the chance to finish was now a waste of time and you cant get the currency you wasted on it back to put towards the new stuff

I never got why people complain about more content. Why do you want the best gear in game? Its about getting that gear that makes you play.

So lets say you went hardcore and have a full set of mythology gear and some god weapon from coil. What then? Hang around mor dona in the gear? Roll another character?

Getting new content and better gear is great, because you can keep going.

Not really a fan of them nerfing tomb costs so soon...they should maybe do it on new gear. I liked that it throttled endgame content, hate getting it all too quick, doesn't feel like a real achievement if it takes a week to fully gear up at endgame.

Perhaps people like me are forever lost to the instant gratification generation though.

MMOs, like WoW, nerf the cost of the current gear when they plan on introducing superior gear sets. This is most likely the case here.

So I got my first iPhone(5) in January this year (true story). And now there are new versions of it. I'm not going to toss my iP5 into the trash for a new one just yet, and certanly not untill my 2 year sprint contract is up. Now take your logic and apply

so if you have more than 1 lvl50 job you can farm more than 300 myth tombs a week? I also agree with above poster I hope its not lowered to much I like there being content that takes a while to achieve it keep any attention no matter how much I have to grind the same dungeon or primal...

You're looking at it wrong. Imagine you got an Iphone because you thought you needed it for your job at work. Well it turns out that the company was looking for the upcoming Iphone because it has some new features that enhance their business. Only the new Iphone will be able to use it though. So while the phone itself is still useful to you, it doesn't quite benefit the company. Now take this analogy back to the game and maybe you'll understand. It's not that the old gear is bad, but the new gear will be better and because of that, it's easier for people to say you need X to beat Y. I don't like this mentality, but it exists. People right now get called gimps all because they don't have a relic or Primal weapon. The game isn't out 30 days as of today and I hear this every damn day.

TLTR, you're wrong bro.

They learned this the hard way in XI last spring when they released Delve with the intention of having folks do the earlier content, only to have people skip the other stuff and go straight to the good stuff, crappy gear and all. Two weeks later they "adjusted" it so that a schlub alliance only had 20 minutes to kill a notorious monster instead of the several hours people were spending zombie-ing things. (45 minutes if they went inside a Delve fracture, but that required at least one person defeating the monsters outside first.)

The gear checks are in there to force you to do the other content enough to be prepared for the hard mode stuff. In theory they can only require you to do each dungeon once, but in reality they want you to do it multiple times and get proper gear before moving on.

If the AF+1 gear is lvl 90, then I wonder, will the eventual level cap be higher than 99? Or will we instead have a level cap of 99 and be using lvl 250 armor? I can't imagine still using a piece of armor that was available from the onset of the game around five years from now when my character is actually level 90.

FFXI's Level 99 characters are maxed out at gear iLvl 113 right now. No idea if they're going to boost it further later.

Ahh, you see, if I would have hung around in FFXI after the cap was increased (or actually made it to 75 for that matter), I would have known that. Smiley: tongue

either way, doesn't really mean anything in relation to the future of XIV with regards to level cap increase...

It's a pretty recent introduction for us (last spring) and a radical change from the WYSIWYG gear we'd had all the way up to 99 before Seekers of Adoulin came out. Since gear is either a max of 99, iLvl 106, or iLvl 113, it's pretty clear they're going in increments of seven and our next leap will be to 120.
