Fresh 50 GearingFollow

I was in a titan pug yesterday early on and the tank and a dps were in the same fc and parsing everyone up until the end of the heart phase. I was told that with my garuda weapon I was dealing more damage than relics. The rotation is definitely working. I dont believe that a relic makes you a good player.

On a lighter note, my awesome FC ZAM consisting of Duma, Jy, Autumn, Amorok, Don (think Don was in there, maybe not) and several other folks who at this time I thank but can't recall their names got me throguh my first titan, ironically while I was on my back, lol. This was our 5th or 6th try I think, at that point I was way past my gaming quota so I was playing with my volume down watching "This is 40" on the other tv with my wife while my 4 year old was bouncing around throwing legos at my head. Somehow through all that I did not get distracted. The kid even landed on the remote to the TV in one of her bounce-fests and turned it completely off. I had a crap my pants moment, grabbed the remote, turned it back on to see that I was still alive. I was not mad, but dang kid, really? Anyway through all of that I was doing well, generally the last person up until tank died and titan walked over to the squishy black mage and smashed me across the face. Did well those runs. But we lost. Then, we get to the winning run.

It starts. I'm thinking that it will be like the last one. I'm doing fantastic all the way through heart, do not get hit, kicking butt, all the way up until I get stuck in the second gaol in the heart phase. Then, they dont break me out in time and the big one hits. Boom, 3400 hp to 0 like that. Then, strangely enough, everybody meshes together. Dodging everything, no deaths, perfect execution, whm awesome as always, sch doing great, everyone kicking butt. No rez because they know its a waste of time since raising off of titan is harder than crab fishing in January. Then the other blm, who really did well to get to that point since he was pretty undergeared and had 2900 hp, finally bites it. Still they keep going. They got all the way down to the end, got the lb3. I'm thinking, ok, they are gonna whm lb3 rez soon to pick me up. But a dd says, "I can kill it!", and gives it a go. Drops him from ~4% to 1%. I'm thinking oh, no, but they are holding it together. Then, as I am laying dead on the floor for 3/4 of the match, with the volume down watching a movie with my wife, and my kid still throwing crap at my head, I finally beat titan.

Irony is ****.

BUT CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

As I was gearing up, I would parse myself against many players (including ones with relics). Some beat me outright. They outplayed me and were skilled at their job.

When I did Titan for the first few times in AK gear and DL accessories (just Ifrit's weapon), I would easily outparse just about anyone barring another BLM or a SMN with their buggy DoTs in the parse.

Recently I was helping my FC do Titan again. They had attempted this previously for around 3 hours before they called me in. One of the DPS with a relic opted to sit out while we got another healer because he ate a landslide every single time. We had around 4 relic users in that party and 3 healers. We wiped twice. One of the times we did wipe, Titan was sitting at 0.1% HP. Only the tank was left alive. He died. We did it again. Same thing happened. Except, the tank managed to beat Titan with the rest of us dead. Truly epic moment!

Point is, I'm kind of tired of people hiding behind gear for Titan. It does depend on gear to a certain extent but it is often exaggerated. It allows you to make fewer mistakes but if you aren't making mistakes to begin with, it's just a crutch. There's a certain monk in my FC who has a relic and he eats landslide every time. Every time I parse him, he's bottom of the DPS yet he insists that you must have full DL and Garuda's weapon before attempting Titan. That gear isn't exactly helping him, is it?

So I log on today and low and behold, guess who PMs me asking me for help with Titan? Yes, the MNK. I mean, if you have gotten through Titan once and have a relic weapon, one would assume you could help others get through it as well without much difficulty. Instead, I am usually called upon to hold their hands through Titan because they can't do something as simple as viewing this:

Wish I had the capability to get on vent. Instead, I've played it enough now can play the thing with the volume down. As long as you remember one thing you will survive. Its validated in your .gif above. Anticipate it, every time, it always throws the team off guard and after this moment I expect to see half the team wipe.

Landslide will follow bombs, every time. Pre-heart, it is after explosion, when you are running to the area where it just exploded. Post-heart, landslide will hit just as the first bombs explode, so you have to dodge the landslide without getting in a bomb radius and think about where to run all at the same time. Anticipate this and you will succeed.
