rumors of longer airship rides with FATEs?!!! Follow

hi friends :)

so this is kinda silly Smiley: lol but i've been a little bummed about airships since my first airship ride in ARR. it feels kinda sad, doesn't feel necessary, or fun, or immersive at all, its just like... oh cool, im on a airship by myself, instant travel, not much different than teleporting except for the short cutscene. its almost the same price as teleporting to a favored main city location even Smiley: dubious

anyway, i was reading some rumors that say yoshi p. once talked about how he wants to eventually implement longer airship rides, but he wants to have FATEs appear on the rides, so they aren't going to implement the longer rides until they come up with FATEs for it.

i cant find a source for this though!!! does this ring a bell for anyone? Smiley: grin

also, share your thoughts !! :)

although this sounds like pure hearsay...

to address the logic behind this. In FFXI there were quests that were done on airships, so it would not come as a surprise.

Yea I would be cool with that. non-instant flights would be just as boring as they are in XI (minus boat rides, that could get fun). If there was something to do (FATE) while riding the ship I would probably ride them. Award gil to the amount (if not more) then the price of the ride would be good too.

I remember that in XI.... actually some of the random skeletons that would pop up... one was actually unnecessarily strong and it was always entertaining watching the low levels on the ship try to run and scramble to get away LOL... but, that did make some of those unbearably long rides go by faster...

XI actually paid you to ride airships if you chose to do play the little memory quest.

I'm all for this and hope it's more than a rumor. Would love to see major Eorzian landmarks from the sky (always felt like I was almost home when I saw the tree in the distance in XI).

It was the ferry rides that had the skeletons and the Sea Horror and such.

I remember the memory quest on the airship, though. Remembering the shoes and gloves were usually enough to win.

Ferry rides were also the perfect place to fish. Nice music, a little action, cool scenery. This would be a good addition in my opinion and either way it wont hurt the game. I say go for it.

I thought the airship was only used to complete a quest. Why use that when you can already teleport faster and it's only slightly more expensive?

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

Good point. Then again, not everyone remembered to set the cities as their favored destinations.

Sounds interesting. I haven't used an airship since level 30 or something thereabouts. If I want to get around I can tele everywhere and do about 20-30 times a day, hell I won't even walk halfway through a zone to where I'm going anymore. The airship would be a nice opportunity for additional side content.

I haven't used an airship (outside of the storylined times of course). I just marked favourite destinations, and I typically ride one of my mounts Gridania to Ul'dah and back (I really wish I could ride to Limsa...).

I make sure not to set the home cities as favored destinations, because I can always Return, then catch the airship for cheap.

I save favored destinations for out of the way places I tend to visit often, For now, that's Aleport, Quarrymill, Camp Drybone, IIRC.

Sea Horror was there purely for economic control. The ferry was the most profitable way to fish. Sea Horror could easily be avoided by anyone who saw him pop - throw on Sneak and run under the deck. Anyone who was afk and botting would be eaten pretty fast. They later added the Goblin Bounty Hunters to patrol the sea coasts in the same fashion.

They should do it for long airship rides to expansion areas. So, that way it makes sense. Like, massive air battles with sky pirates or the Empire. They could have the airships take off and land in the more traditional FFXI way. Travel between the starting cities should, more or less, stay the way it is though.

Actually, I remember, early on, being eaten by Sea Horror hiding in the room farthest from the top deck (where you entered the boat).
Perhaps they patched this later, but I certainly remember arriving dead at the docks in Selbina at lvl 14!
