Your personal title is obviously misleading. ^^

I gave up my elite awesomeness to become a husband, father and professional. Worthwhile trade-off. I'm OK with NO LONGER playing better than YOU.

;)

(Seriously, though, I always thought that the admins were kind of mean-spirited when they came up with it. Obviously didn't think highly of me or the countless helpful posts and guides I've posted within my way-too-high post count, and focused more on my unfortunate tendency to be a snob).

That's very good to know - thanks!

If gaming is a hobby, and you are ok with being bored while engaging in your hobby, you have more time on your hands than me. I have a real life with enough boring moments in it.

Luckily, I generally don't find it boring. :)

Alternatives that you shouldn't waste your time on (if you want to get to 50 and fun doesn't take primacy over getting it done) when pursuing your second class on-wards: Dungeons - Don't bother. You'll get stuck in DF parties that are learning the mechanics of lower level dungeons. Is that bad? Again no, but it slows you down, the point here being 'get to 50'.

I agree with the vast majority of what you posted, but not this bit.

I feel you should run through dungeons periodically with all you classes to help you learn the mechanics of the job. Nobody likes the guy/gal that rushed to 50 with no idea what half their abilities do, and no idea as to the preferred ability rotations.

Of course, subsequent classes of a specific role (tank/dps/heal) will require much less practice, but you should still practice the intricacies of the class in a non-fate party.

There are so few abilities and the game is so easy, that running two dungeons no your way to 50 is more than enough...

It would have been more amazing if the story had a happy ending and I'd actually managed to publish my book. Smiley: frown

so I have every DoW and DoM class above 20 now, almost no grinding. I do some leve quests while queued and when fates pop I'll go to them, but not otherwise. I avoided all non story quests while my main is running the story, and then save the side quests for my alt classes.

Doing it this way your alt classes have a 50% exp boost, I can get 1-10 in about an hour, 10-15 in an hour, and 15-20 in 2 hours. slowly bringing everyone up to 30 now and a little slower, but not by much.

I hate to say it but that's bs. That line of thinking is why people still don't know basic game mechanics by the level 41 main dungeon... Simple things like dodging... sleeping adds, and correct positioning. It might work for you, but I think it's nice to be able to work with people who know what they're doing. Dungeons are supposed to be a fun integral way of help you better your playing skill as a class.

All fates do is just give you exp while you're coddled on your way to 50, but really have little practical value.

I don't disagree re: the failure to properly learn mechanics by not running dungeons but that's another consideration that doesn't enter into the calculation of getting to 50 asap. Also, most of my perspective is based on "not your first class". That kind of negates a chunk of the learning curve in my opinion because you should be familiar with (at least from a 2nd hand perspective) what classes do. Throw a few AK runs into it to smooth that understanding out and you're good to go. This makes another assumption I should be clear about, you fell into a full set of gear for your other class while on your first class in way of surplus philo tokens and mountains of AK runs for token farming giving you near a full set of AK gear and some darklight maybe, add to that the possibility of having one or more rando primal weapons collecting dust to use on this alt class at 50. If you're new to the game grinding to 50 through FATEs alone absolutely does not impart a useful education in how to play the actual game, couldn't agree more.

I don't have an excess of time on my hands and I wouldn't call it a hobby so much as a thing that consumes time (and is relatively inexpensive compared to a great many other things that consume time). Also I don't attach a negative connotation to being bored which is why I mentioned it wasn't a bad thing. I don't find games in general to be something that rises to the level of "exciting". Many genres of game could be considered attention intensive, like an FPS game where things happen quickly and so require your focus, MMO's don't fall into that category. Their are small moments that require more than my passing attention like during a boss fight. Most of it - crafting, gathering, travelling some place, all the trash in most dungeons, FATEs etc... can be done while reading a news paper. Which is good actually, because literacy is never a bad thing and keeping abreast of current events is also a good thing. I actually take being bored in an MMO most of the time as an opportunity to split my attention which is a nice perk. An opportunity to play a game, chat with friends on vent, blacklist gold sellers, and read the news - bonus.

I'm over the hump now ... Thanks for the insight.

Following the story has opened so many more quest lines for me. I was stuck on dungeons because I was an ARC and I don't usually get long enough play-times to wait 45 minutes in queue for a dungeon and then spend 45 minutes in a dungeon.

Instead, I leveled my CNJ and got I got instant queue pops and got through the 3 dungeons quickly :)
