Greetings,

The development team is aware that the experience points awarded to botanists and miners is somewhat lower than what is awarded to fishers. As such, during the Hot Fix that will take place next week, we will be increasing the experience earned gained by these two classes.

All i can say is "bout damn time".

They are WAY too grindy. I can get 1-2 levels a night 35+ but i hate myself for it, and end up with about 1000 mahogny logs that sell for nothing because of all the botters.

I will definitely put a hold to grinding my DoL to 50 now until next weeks hot fix.

I also liked the 'somewhat lower' comment.

Yes, my 300 for a nq/1k for a HQ is somewhat lower than your 3k for a nq and 12k for a hq fish.

Granted i can clear a whole tree/stone in the time you do 1 fish, it should be more on par (1 whole tree = 3k, not 1.2k). 4 Attempts at 300 each = 1.2k, so i guess i would hope for the base exp to go from 300 -> 700, and that would put the hq at 2100.

Awesome find.

At 27 BTN, I was really becoming disheartened with the increasing time it takes to level up.

Now to decide whether to hold off on harvesting, and by extension, my CUL and WVR progress or just keep going.

Thank you bearded baby Jesus. I have been having such a hard time motivating myself to level my botanist with how slow it levels compared to everything else.

SUCH good news.... So happy lol.

And as for the fishing comparison: One HQ fish may equal 4k or so XP on a single gather and that's at level 23 or so. For a similar botany/mining node, you would have to hit all 4 of a chain on a +1 to gathering node, fire off your 300 gp ability to bump it up one more, use the 100% gather ability and then get chain 5, and you're still only going to be around 2500xp.

They should also make mining/botany leves work like fishing leves where turning in items rewards you. You can max out a mining/botany leve now and get diddly squat for xp.

EDIT: For clarity on levels.

bleah just as I'm about to hit 50 MIN... guess it's time to try my hand at BTN to gauge the difference ^.~

I'm only like lv19 BTN and hate it so much. I make no gil really from it (HQ items might sell for a nice bit, if at all).
I just do the same 4(maybe 3) leve quest for exp....so boring. Would not be as bad if I could take that axe I have on my back and do some damage, like in a FATE, to get EXP...

My Botanist is trailing behind my Miner and of course Fisher is flying ahead, so this is good news.
Yes even the leves don't help that much. So, any kind of help is appreciated.
On my crafting classes any attempt at trying to HQ even if not successful (but completing the synth) rewards much higher exp.
Not sure how many know this?

I found BTN to be not too bad at higher levels, repeatedly doing the two Evaluation levequests (out of the total four available). At least one was always up and I usually got a Cordial as a reward, allowing the process to continue. I was hitting around 50-60k exp per levequest in Mor Dhona --35k exp for the quest + evaluation 25% bonus, and around 20k exp from just consistently chaining the easy evaluation items (using the level 2 Gathering up skill).

Combine those levequests with either rested exp or grand company manuals and you will level quite fast. I did 47-50 in one night.

Serious question, how do people level fisher that quickly? I'll admit I haven't gotten very far (Like, level 12 iirc) but it seems so much harder than botanist to level, because with botanist or miner I can look and see what items are what levels and where they are. Even using guides online, I can't figure out how to use the information available to find a good spot. What level should I be aiming at? I can't even seem to get anything above level 10, since that's the highest level bait I can equip. I assume the best xp would be targeting fish a few levels above me, but I can't for the life of me figure out how. All I've managed so far is grinding levels out on things below me, which takes forever.

Once you know of a good location and the right lure to use at that location you can basically selectively get 1 type of fish and hq semi often. So at 40 i can get a 5k fish with a 20k hq fish, and when thats all im getting is 5k or 20k, it goes really fast.

I get how to single out fish from the list, what I don't get is how to look at a spreadsheet and figure out what fish I should be trying to single out. Do I look for a fishing spot a few levels above me? When I tried it (with the highest level water-type appropriate bait I could equip) all I could get was trash.

Wait, are you actually prevented from using bait above your level? I guess I never tried that, but since you technically don't equip bait, just select it with an ability... Am I on the right track here?

You can't select bait above your leve, it will be greyed out.

Some baits/lures explicit said which type of fish, not the generic for freshwater/saltwater fish.

Okay, so how should you be determining what fish to target? It seems like DoL classes get more xp for aiming at/above their level, but I just don't see how you can when there's mostly only new bait every 5 levels, so you have to go after fish the nearest multiple of 5 (rounding down).
I really want to get into fishing, but this is baffling me a lot.

Because bait/lure can favour specific fish, regardless of the fish level. Of course you won't be able to catch the fish if it's too high (or even attempt the fishing hole).

Ok, so how high exactly is too high? Higher than your level at all? Higher than the nearest multiple of 5 rounded down?
I can at least attempt 10-15 fishing holes at 12, I suppose I'm just using the wrong bait. Do you know any good resources that actually list this data on what bait works better on what?

Edit: I've found this guide/log,
http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/1mp5ze/
which looks more useful than I lot of what I've seen. I'll have to give it a try.

I only know for sure that you can't Dune/Sky Fishing until lvl 35 and 45, and can not fish at lvl 50 Fishing Hole until lvl 50 (but you can still catch lvl 50 fish in other areas with Mooch/Double Mooch).

Weird, I've never bothered once about the XP progression on DoL jobs, in fact, I'm damn happy it's change from the absolute drudge-fest it was in 1.0. I did 42-43 in about 2 hours last night and didn't think twice about it, I was just happy I'd farmed up what will become two full stacks of Electrum Ingots.

When is this hotfix out? Also, XPing off DoL leves is really fast if you want to burn through my level allowance. I think perhaps the speed of leveling DoW jobs has spoiled some people?

You sir are a troll lol.

Crafter 20-50 = on tripple leaves, roughly 1 leve per level, can go 20-50 in a day easily
DoW/M 20-50= on fates can go 20-50 in a day
DoL = 1 leve is like an extra 50% exp, and you need probably about 99 to go 1 to 50. Even then with rest exp, exp scroll and spaming leves, your looking at a good portion of a week.

DoL (btn/min) take forever to level, while fisher i can go 42-45 in the same 2 hrs you went 42-43 last night (i know this because i did it). Fishing, if you do leves is even faster, while leves for btn/min are pretty crap.

They are just bringing these 2 jobs into line so you dont end up with 7000 mahogany going from 35 to 40 and in turn flood the market which drops the price of your 20 hours of work.

I suppose, I'm not against it, I just never thought it was slow compared to 1.0 (or mining in XI for that matter). Granted Leve rewards don't compare when you look at leveling DoH jobs, but 4 Miner leves at level 40 was netting me about 200k with rest and I was fine with that.

Like I said, I'm not complaining. XD

4 Mining leves was getting you about 25k x 4 and if you did the evaluation ones only (which its impossible to do just the 2 that give the best exp as they rotate) it was maybe 35k x4, that other 60k you got while harvesting doesnt really count towards the '200k from 4 leves'. Just like when crafting, i get about 7k x9 for crafting 9 HQ items then i turn them in for 350k. I dont say i got 415k from one leve.

But thats the point, is that its not proportional, not even to fisher who i can gain 3-5 levels a night (2 hrs) with no rest exp or exp scroll, or leves. I dont think anyone is hoping that DoL leves give the same exp as DoH, but +25% exp for a HQ evaluation vs the +200% exp a crafter gets is kinda silly.

Yeah, I was including what I mined for the leve in that total, I can see your point.
