I already have a conj that is 23 and I was wondering if tanks are more needed in game later than healers? I keep hearing tanks get insta qued and are impossible to find later on but that is usually the case when I play a tank as my main.

Would it be better to create another character and start out tanking or stick to my Conj and level up another class with it instead?

Depends on what you like, both are in short supply. In the end you will likely find a free company and then you will kind of find your grove there. Just level what you enjoy for the time being. tank is more the organizer of the group and catches all the heat if things go wrong. Healer is just to boring for me to do :)

Unless you just want the a change in appearance (or to play on a different server), there is really no reason to start a new character. In fact it's beneficial to level only one character in this game, due to the cross class abilities you'd miss out on otherwise.

Really though, play what makes you happy.

If you love being the leader of the group and charging head first into unknown situations, be a tank.

If you'd rather head up the rear and provided support to everyone and ensure that the entire run flows smoothly, be a healer.

If you just want to smash things and smash 'em hard, be a DPS.

The best role for DF wait times would definitely be healer for levels 10 through 27 since there is only one class for that role. Once you hit Haukke Manor, however, you'll see a definite shift to tanks being in short supply while healers suddenly have 2 competing jobs for the position at level 30. Safe to say that DPS sucks no matter which level you're at, however.

While there definitely are fewer healers pre-30, I often run dungeons earlier dungeons for fun with my SCH (it's amazing how well the fairy does at those levels.). And, I'm sure others do as well. So, it's more like 1.5 healing classes pre 30. Regardless, those DF wait are usually short.

Tanks in general are just in short supply, though.

That's one thing I've been wondering - do you still get access to the fairies in a pre-30 dungeon as SCH? As in, your summon spells are permanently morphed into SCH versions, even while level synced?

Yep. That's exactly what happens.

That sounds really cool! I didn't realise you could use jobs at lower levels than you actually get the job!

Keep in mind that level requirements for abilities are still in effect. The main reason this works for SCH is that Summon and Summon II are lvl 4 and 15 respectively, and these are the abilities that are morphed.

For example, SMN can't summon Ifrit when synced below lvl 30. I'm not sure if they can summon Titan or not (as it's called via Summon II). I'll have to check that.

on hindsight, i find it better to level a dps and a tank/healrr class simultaneously as you are lvl-ing through the main story quest, reason being you could use the quests to lvl ur dps, and use dungeons to lvl the healer/tank, and u wont ever be stuck on a story mission since you have that tank/healer class to give u instant queues.

on the subject of healer and tank, just know that if you are a competent tank, u can pretty much determine the outcome of every dungeon up to stone vigil (with the exception of temple of qarn, cutter's cry) solely on ur own because having a good tank is just that important. cant say the same if u r the healer, as if the tank screws up there isnt much u could do...

I'm gonna give you the advice I would give me if I could go back in time to before I leveled White Mage to 50: Unlock both White Mage and Scholar and try them for a while before deciding which one you like best. They have very different healing styles. I gave up on healing until I forced myself to give Scholar a try, and I'm having a blast now.

I am enjoying my conj but my god the tank I had in the last dungeon I healed seemed to be wearing a paper bag. I will try a scholar and see how it goes.

As a white mage, I often felt that if I missed a single cooldown, the tank would die. And on PS3 at least there's a weird glitch where sometimes I am clearly targetting the tank and the heal will go to me instead. It can get really stressfull to waste an entire cast because of a glitch. With scholar, I got my buddy Eos backing me up, so it's not as critical if I make a mistake.

Plus she uses AoEs so when I get a tank that can only manage one mob at a time, she gets to tank the rest. Not me Smiley: lol
