Bonus points to whoever gets the reference. :p

Anyway, just attempted Titan HM for the better part of my day after finally getting ilvl 70+ gear for the majority of my slots and wow...to say this is the hardest fight I've encountered so far is an understatement. It feels like Battletoads; you have to do everything so perfectly or it's a wipe. Even with my cheat sheet (notepad open next to my FF14 window with the ability rotations), I still have yet to clear this fight, but I've gotten several groups that have come close to winning only for Titan to suddenly be all like "F*ck you, I win!" Anyway, I thought it would be nice to have a topic for venting/advice/funnies/epic fail related to Titan HM.

My biggest epic fail encountered so far: My group gets past the heart phase. All of a sudden, my game client lags out like crazy for 15 seconds. Apparently, the game was in such disbelief that we got that far it couldn't compute properly afterwards. How we lived through that massive lag spike, I have no clue...but alas, our luck didn't hold out.

Something that was hilarious to see: My co-WHM got trapped and while the DPS was trying to bust her out, Titan stacks not one, not two, but THREE plumes in that area. She gets freed...only to be utterly annihilated by the plumes a second later. Ironically, the very next run, the same thing happened to me.

Anyone else have any Titan moments they'd like to share? Or for those who've actually managed to clear the fight, what worked for you the most?

I went to do titan one day to finish off my WHM relic. Out of all the classeg in there healers have the hardest job. I have mad respect for them after doing it.

Anyway, on our 4th attempt of the night we had the heart down and got titan to about 10% with 3 out of 5 DD down. We managed to get a LB3 so the other whm was able to raise everyone to full. We get him down another 2% and hes all like "LOL thats a nice trick, check this out" and proceeds to stomp us into oblivion. Haha titan very funny.

Needless to say we lost that one and were a bit discouraged after coming so close (was a pickup group btw). We werent done yet though. We got him on the next run with no deaths that time.

Titan can be a real pain in the *** but it is a very fun fight. You get that feeling of satisfaction when you win.

Yeah just got done doing Titan today. Of course I have a great party but the weakest link was me. Kept ******** up the bombs and landslide after heart. Also doesn't help getting hit by laggy plumes. As a healer, I felt like crap I let the team down, since about 5 of them needed the win also.

This is a Japanese meme that originally referred to not being able to beat Airman.
It was then expanded to Rockman beating Airman, but failing to Woodman so going back to beat on Airman again.
As Titan is/was earth based I guess that makes him Rockman?

Dozens of tries. Dozens. My last fight, I was raised twice, neither 'took' I was like a Ghost standing there unable to move with zero hp. I watched the fight unable to contribute. I watched a group of great people, awesome healer and tank, just work that Titan no matter what he did.

Thanks to Duma, jy, Don, Genevive for sticking in there and helping me.

Here is some advice, after something like 200+ attempts I finally beat it with my 3 jobs (MNK, WHM and PLD), hence I feel I have some ground to offer specific advice, either way please feel free to ask if you have specific questions not covered in this post:

Rules:

Did you see avatar? like in pandora you have to cultivate a strong mental attitude and obey the rules... Titan Rules.

1) It really doesn't matter if you are a tank a DPS or a healer, you are not allowed to get hit by anything except tumults. the tanks, however also have to receive Mountain Buster.
2) Memorize the patterns, not because you can't get out of the way on reaction(I'm sure you can) because you will need them to follow the third rule.
3) Make a macro to announce your party that weight of the land is coming, this is really as far as you can go to baby-sit others in this fight, Rule two is important because you have to flawless, after a few times people will get use to your macro and missing a single weight of the land can cost you the fight, keep that in mind.

If you follow those 3 rules you will stop being a liability and from there is just a matter of time until you find a competent group that can clear it, as others have said playing healer in titan is significantly harder than Tank or DPS.

Critical parts and advanced tips:

The Heart:
There are really just 2 scenarios here, your group either can or cannot break it, the easiest way to tell the difference is: if everyone reached the heart part alive, used the LB and the heart didn't break that group simply does not have the damage or if you failed to meet those condition after 3 attempts your group simply does not have the skill/practice to break it. There are some strategies (Auto-attack during the first 3 phases to get LB lvl3) to break the heart even when you group lacks the required damage. I personally do not recommend them, because damage defines the duration of the last part and you want that to be over as fast as possible.

After Breaking the heart:
This is really the most critical part because Titan will receive you after his special move with the burning rage of a thousand suns, the move order right after the heart is:
Mountain Buster > Tumults (5) > Weight of the land
1) If you don't top your tank right away he will die to Mountain Buster.
2) If you don't top your tank after Mountain Buster he will die to Tumults.
3) And finally if you don't heal through tumults quick enough you will be caught in Weight of the Land.

Long story short, after you break the heart it's time to put on your gamer on face and show that ******* what you are made of.

During this last phase there is only one Gaol (rock jail) in Titan's rotation:
Gaol > Land slide > Mountain Buster > Tumults> Weight of the land > Bombs > Land slide > Mountain Buster > Weight of the land > (rotation restart) Gaol
Gaol: Break it asap.
Land slide: Dodge and get ready
Mountain Buster (Table flip):
@Tank: Precast a defensive ability
@Scholar: Cast Sacred Soil behind titan
@Everyone else: stay behind titan inside Sacred Soil
Tumults:
@White Mage: Medica 2 > Medica
@Scholar: Succor > Succor
@Everyone else: Get ready to run, but stay still until the last tremor
Weight of the land: needless to say but get out of the way.
Bombs:
@Tank: dodge the bombs, if she get hit by them she will die.
Landslide: Dodge
Mountain Buster (Table flip):
@Tank: this is what is going to kill her if she didn't dodge
the bombs.
Weight of the land: needless to say but get out of the way.

Special note for white mages, you have to reach at full MP and with shroud of the saints available to the last part after breaking the heart, otherwise unless you have a bard you will be out of MP before the fight ends. Pro tip, do not overheal the tank, she actually doesn't need that much healing before the last part.

Good luck!

Yeah you can't bust them out of the gaols until those plumes clear. And it is a 1/10 shot to stay alive after rez if you die. And if you think the plumes that titan puts down are difficult to exit due to latency, I have had severe troubles with ADS line aoe in bc2 and even worse trouble escaping the circular poison spit aoe from the goobue in WP. No matter how far I am out of the aoe I still get hit. One time in ADS I ran past two people, nearly double the width of the line, and still got hit but they didn't. Wierd.

But back to titan, the battle is a very long set of patterns. Be on the move when the plumes are about to hit. And learn the three line bomb pattern. So often when I try it with new teams I see that once the heart is passed, 1/3 die to the first set of stacked mass plumes because they arent moving, and the remaining third die to the first three line bomb pattern. And if your DPS cant get the heart pass 50%, think about restructuring your team. That is the only real dps "check" that must be passed to progress.

Duma and Jy got me through my first one as well. Irony was, I was on my back when it happened, because the same group that couldnt break me out of the second gaol in the heart phase spent the rest of their time beating the crap out of titan. So my first victory I felt was not earned. But that second time, when we got Rhaya through for the first time, now that is where I could say that I was standing at the end, died zero times, dealt the final blow, and was flawless. But having Duma in your party is essential. Unparalleled.

Some people are just more willing to work together than others. The group I had for my Titan kill was mostly composed of people looking to get thei kill for their relic quests, which the exception of one of the WHMs who already had their relic but liked helping people out.

Even with great gear, it is surprisingly hard to collectively get 8 well geared people to get through that entire match without a single brain fart.

So I did my first HM Titan fight this morning in DF, wasn't my idea a friend was wanting to try and we were the other FC members on at the time (it was 8am) needless to say we got owned...

3 attempts Heart defeated Zero times.

Things I learned...if you die you basically are done, most of th etime you get raised into AOE or a Tumult and go down right again.

The Bombs are a pain in the ***

Hands down the hardest fight so far in the game...

Just for fun I wanted to challenge your math here. ;)

So last night FC did Titan for a few hours straight. 6 fully geared and two new guys. Holy nuts.

Oddly enough it's that Phase 5 (after heart) that is the tough part. I learned the rest of the fight from video easily enough. I even have the gear to contribute at heart. After heart, knowing that ability rotation is essential.

I died either in the first 1/3, or the remaining 1/3, every time. ><

It's crazy to me the level of difficulty based on the job your playing. I've often done it on mnk, which isn't bad, but there's lots of movement preventing your atks. Bombs are tough to see regardless of camera, and the hearts a pain in the *** to target. Not to mention, plumes are a pain if you don't stop attacking.

Then I did my fight on brd, and what a joke. You see all the bombs easily, can be atking and running for plumes, etc. Can't comment on tanking or healing, but healing seems like the roughest ride of all.

One thing i see a lot of is monks sitting in fire stance the whole time. Use earth stance for unavoidable dmg. (stomps/unavoidable weight of the lands) Lets be honest, occasionally you get the bad luck WotL and you are basically stuck in the center of 4 of them with no where to go.

I cleared titan last night in a pug and was pretty impressed. Getting past heart is cake, but what seems to get most pople is the 3 rows of bombs + land slide. There are some good videos online that show how to dodge it, but they only work if everyone does it.

Heck, you don't even need a tank anymore! He's easy mode!

Interesting. Tanking with a Titan Egi... Which is... A tank. I would be curious as to how you were able to allow the Titan Egi to get enough hate so the healers and the DD weren't stripping Titan off of them.

And using Titan to tank is nothing new. He is a tank.

I would also be curious as to how you were able to position him without the summoner dying, and how you got him to dodge the bombs.

Ya, not familiar with smn to know how it works tbh. There a way to position him there and have a stay command while he still attacks?

Yeah, I love vids like this in that they make it seem like this is something that anyone can do without a tank. Though, they had a tank, the tank died, and the smn positioned their avatar there after the heart phase, and they then kept that healed.

Once the avatar died, the party started dropping like flies. They were within seconds of that fight going one way or another. They are definitely very skilled and good with the jobs to have pulled off that win.

I would not expect too many smn wins for a while. Though you can be sure that if people find a way to titan burn titan, we will probably be looking at a nerf bat shortly after.

The key is to know that landslide is coming, stand out of range of the landslide, and just within range of the bombs. Then run to the open land as soon as he strikes the ground for landslide.

The hardest one is the circle pattern with the bomb in the middle. Very difficult to not take a hit there. If you have to, take a bomb before you take the landslide. Just dont take two bombs. That is bad.

Three line pattern is easy becuase you just stand in the middle bomb on the last placed line, then move to one of the outer bombs on that line when the landslide indicator pops up on the ground. Then trigger sprint and run to the other side when he drops the landslide.

That is hard. I've ran an AK with summoner / titan tanking. It works ok, until you have to move. Very difficult on Garuda battle. Titan may be possible since the tank doesnt move much in that battle. Hate is a different story. While possible, your dps really have to be aware of their hate meters and use quelling strikes where available.
