I have a new favorite NPC: Hab the Hobo Zombie. Bumped into him last night when I was wandering around the desert.

Who is your favorite NPC?

That camp in the desert for me was just used for my character to properly confess his affections to a crush and ask her out on a date.

Hab just watched, not thinking about eating our brains.

From now on I'm going to use phrases such as "As Hab as my witness!"

My favorite NPCs are the nameless level 35 guards just outside Gridania and it's outlying villages. Here you are in the land where people live in peaceful coexistence with forest life, at one with the elements lest you engage them... and then these guards run off to one-shot a level 1 squirrel that was looking at them funny. I like the hyur (dont think he has a name) in Upper Limsa who is trying to romance a girl with the words; "My loins are throbbing for you like Dalamut, my heart burns for you like Megaflare!".

Oh! Found it! badbadbadbad quote >_>;

It got a laugh out of me, i love some of the random NPC dialogue.

Holy Cow... this was going to be my answer before I even opened this thread. I ran into this guy mining Mythril. The nodes are all around him!

No named npc ever helped me enough to care about learning their names but those Gridanian killing guards crack me up. You can even level with them chain pulling mobs in the South Shroud and get full xp if you do alot of damage to the mobs they kill. There is a glitched spot in the north shroud where a squirrel and a lady bug cross the road and a guard kills them...less than a minute it repeats. That's when I noticed ARR has no Greenwrath like in 1.0.

There's one near the mite spawns who's probably hoarding webs too lol. He's standing at the foot of a little bridge and if the mite wanders to close, bam!

lol, Worst quest ever. Had to take a hot shower afterwards. My favorites aren't as exotic, but I love the THM guild group. The quest chain cracks me up.

I hate that guy!

When I was farming webs for WVR, he screwed up my rotation multiple times. Smiley: mad

The Alchemist Guildleader, by far.

I'm paraphrasing here, but:

"Once you have tasted the wondrous fruit that is alchemical discovery, you will soon find yourself without need for such base desires as sleep or sustenance!"

"Your success here is unexpected, though not unpleasant! It would seem that my sporadic bouts of instruction have been fruitful!"

Everything he says is golden. He's got one foot inside the door of madness, but he decided instead to just hump the door jam.

Seredipity (GSM GM) is also great. Her and Gigi crack me up.

"THIS COPPER INGOT WOULDN'T BE FIT FOR USE IN A CHAMBER POT"
"Oh, ignore him, that's just Gigi. I think your ingot would make a WONDERFUL chamber pot! Wait, that didn't come out right...."

She's the idiot-savant of ARR.

During the Main Scenario Questline around level 36 i believe, the quest just before you discover Cid in the church, there is an NPC named Iliud that mentions the "Great wall of Goobbue at Ul'dah" during the events just before the Calamity. The devs payed a little homage to what the players from 1.0 ACTUALLY did in the servers when the in-game event started. (Unfortunately I cannot locate any of the pictures I had of that /cry). This type of details made my day by far and I am REALLY glad I didn't just skip through the words. Smiley: smile

I don't like the NPC's they always give me work to do...the real issue with Eorzea is that everyone is super lazy...seriously collect your own apples, drive the wolves off yourself...JUST DO SOMETHING FOR YOURSELVES I'm busy trying to kill Primals

/rant

Early on an NPC has pretty much this exact complaint. NPCs are always griping about how lazy other NPCs are, especially if you're doing work they were assigned to do.

Momodi, hands down. Best Adventurer's Guild guildmaster out of all 3 of them, and FREAKING ADORABLE. <3

Hamon, the Pugilist guildmaster, is a close second.

Some of my favorites:

Gigi, the mammet from the GSM questline
Minfilla, I'm sure I don't need to spell out why
Biggs and Wedge for the slight comic relief and nostalgia
Pretty much all the Halloween event characters, but especially the pudding in LL and the zombie in Uldah: "Here, let me reward you with this candy I've been using as an eyeball. Hold on, let me wipe the puss off. There, good as new!"

Not going there, but in playing around with the voice acting settings, I have to say by far, the English actress has her down the best. The Japanese voice just didn't seem to fit at all for some reason.

But, you haven't seen acting until you've heard Raubahn in French giving the memorial speech. The NPC model just couldn't keep up with his provocativeness. Smiley: lol

I suppose a minion is sort of an NPC, but this reminded me of the text description on the Smallshell minion, "The mere sight of this small wavekin has been known to cause psychological trauma amongst adventurers who spent years of their lives on faraway shores culling its relatives."

Whoever wrote that totally had XI players pegged. They could use a similar description if a beetle or colibri minion was ever added.

But for an actual NPC, I'll add the BSM guildmaster had a good line. During one of the quests, he's trying to fabricate some inspirational motivating speech about rising to blacksmith greatness, but eventually just goes, "Oh, sod it. Just make me a bunch of bronze rivets."

Favorite is an understatement. There is nothing on this planet that would stop me from asking out Kan-E-Senna. She was the exact reason I joined the Twin Adder. I would serve and love that woman til my death. Really, if there was an area where she's stationary, and not seen exclusively in cutscenes, I would be crafting right next her all the time.

(yes Im still around, even though I still can't play)
