Materia, dost thou mock me?! (Requesting relic/DL help)Follow

Soooo I'm in a conundrum. Looks like I need 2 level three materia for DRG relic quest. As of yet I have not been able to create this materia given that I am only just starting to grind for ToPs and I'm still reliant on most of my gear. Also, I'm reeeaaaally trying not to spend the 60k (Midgardsormr) it will cost me to purchase through Market Board. This kind of leaves me wondering which route to take.

I have my DL belt. Purchased it with my meager sub50 dungeon tomes (converted old belt into a nice Heavenly Eye III). Obviously the next quickest items to convert are all of my juicy 45+ jewelry. A bit of a gamble (I'd be happy to make at least one of the materia I need. 30k is a lot easier to swallow than 60k) but would focusing on jewelry first be taboo? I want pts to feel as comfortable with me as possible as I move along ( I feel I'm a decently skilled DRG but I only want to have to fight for my right for as short of a period as possible).

Or should I be more patient? Go after the DL body pieces and fetch myself a primal weapon to hold the fort down?

It's likely going to be a while until you get your weapon quests finished anyway, you need a lot of DL for some of the fights and almost all of it for the last one... grind away at that stuff and wear whatever you know drops those... or you might get lucky and find said weapon with the material already attached for cheaper than it costs to make it... I did.

If it were me and I needed 60k fast, I'd get a tank or healer buddy of mine to do 3 quick CM runs in the Duty Finder (they're getting surprisingly fast in the DF these days) and use the tombstones to buy crafting items. Then I'd sell the items on the marketboard and use the profit to buy what I need.

I find this tons easier than gambling on materia conversions.

Tomestones Smiley: tongue not Tombstones, sorry nitpicking Smiley: grin.

I say just take your time it's going to take you a while to kill HM Titan (you will need mostly DL gear which you need Philo tomestones for) unless you have FC to help you kill it. You will also need 900 Philo tomestones for the last materials to get your relic (so yeah the grind for tomestones will be quite long).

So while you grind all those tomestones, I suggest use some 45+ jewelry and convert it into materia, if you get the materia you need nice, if not just sell it on marketplace.

Good luck!

Yeah, deep down inside there's that voice that tells me, "you're just rushing to the next road block, you know".

I hate that voice. I hate it more when it's right. Smiley: laugh

So a good game plan is to just keep replenishing my jewelry until I'm to a point where I'm adding DL? I might like that idea....

I had some lv43-47 crafting gear that was still not 100% spiritbonded by the time I upgraded to the ilvl 55 / "artifact" crafter set. Since I began leveling my BRD from 43-50 after getting my desired crafts to 50, I just wore that low-level armor (eg when FATE grinding for story quest pre-requisites) to assimilate when it finished spiritbonding. The belt was especially fast, so everytime I 100% it I craft another and spiritbind it again. Been stocking up on some pretty nice level III craftmanship and control materia that goes for around 24-30k on my server in the meantime.

tl;dr Yes, recycle your least crucial equipment by converting it to materia.

I'm a believer. It's so obvious I should be ashamed of myself.

Almost on par with that nice fellow way back when on XI who told me about moat carp in Windurst. Changed my whole financial lifestyle forever.

Long and short of it bite the bullet and pay whatever you need for the weapon. Meld it do the quest all the way up to titan and learn to dodge. You can beat titan with wp and ak armor easy as long as you dodge, I will say pick up as light dark harpoon form wp or a ifrit harpoon.

The reason for this is no amount of gear makes up difference in raw damage from the weapon. Then you can +1 it and now you can breeze through content to gain faster tomes for dl. And skip dl body, get ak body this will help you for coil until you get a hero's belt which won't be for 5 weeks

I have the HQ variant of the weapon I need for my relic quest. I personally find the stats superior to the GC weapon. Am I wrong in this regard?

Edit* That would be a HQ Champion's Lance.

That's what I used melded, then I got ifrits which I think is higher by 2damage, 1damage=7.4 str but if you meld that and turn it in for the quest you lose it so you can fall back on the gc weapon

OK, so in the meantime I use my HQ lance to tackle for tomes while cycling out my jewelry for materia. I keep an eye out on Market Board for another crafter far too eager to sell a HQ Champion's Lance and "dodge".

Awesome. Thanks everyone. Smiley: laugh

I wouldn't recommend doing HM Titan using only gc weapon, at least get Ifrit or Garuda weapon IMHO.

I read between the lines on that one. I'm a collector. I would want them both, anyway.

Best plan run WP 3 times, use those tomes to sell ToP craft items this will net you 35k a piece plus you will pick up some nice ilvl 55 items.

Next start your quest beat chimera then do AK this will also give you some nice ilvl 60 gear. You should be using gc weapon cuz at this point you can ride it all the way out to relic or replace it with a primal one rather fast

Ooooh I'm going to run WP a whole lot more than 3 times. My dungeon minimum post lvl 20 is maybe 5? But the craft items? I'd rather gear myself and sell/recycle jewelry materia. Yes, that's my game plan, I think.

that is completely doable the only reason i suggested my way is that at 50 the game truns into a complete grind with a funny way of gear progression. they have ilvl55 but it is completely replaced by the end of the day and the ilvl60 in week. then you are stuck on ilvl 70 for months. and the money you would save from buying and recycling jewlery could be pumped into a second job or a craft.

If you're hurting for money, I would do the WP and AK runs but quickly. The potash/ore market on Migard has been falling rapidly since last week. It'll net you the money you need for materia, though.

You can net some mythology in those WP runs too! Look me up. :P I'm always stuck grinding philosophy tomes or HM primals. Speaking of which, when you get to that point in the quest, look up this lalataru:

http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/111441-Historia-helping-out-with-Titan-for-free!

I'm not in his FC but I do run with him quite a bit. If you need help with anything prior to Titan and can't find people, I'm also available. You can find a lot of the groups gathering in Revenant's Toll.

Good luck!

I'm a DRG as well and was in same position as you with materia didnt want to pay 25k+ for materia I can get from spiritbonding. An FC member made me some lv45-49 LTH DOW gear and 2 were HQ (I read that HQ and materia filled items spirit bond faster, I didnt have materia in my items but the HQ ones did bond faster) plus you can get rings and a Crown from melding 5 materia on 1 item.

Anyways I went to Coerthas and I fought the beastmen to the right of the map (cant think of the area name atm but it starts with a T.... its where you were sent to get the first piece of your relic) popped on my choco to lv him up and just beat some mobs up... 220 to be exact to get 100%, as DRG we needed 2 Savage Aim III , I ended up not getting any I needed.... but here is the kicker... good chance you will get decent SELLABLE materia out of the other items,

I ended up getting a 2 battledance and a savage might III. I shouted for a trade and traded 1 BD for 1 SA I needed and bought the 2nd 1 to finish quest.. put other 2 on market and both sold in 30 min had my gil back plus another 25k it was some work but was worth it.. I had ifrits lance and have done all relic quests and fights up to Garuda(which I haven't attempted yet) with 1 Piece DL hope this helps some
