classes pointless vs jobsFollow

a few extra cross class abilities is all you get when you stay class vs job. There is a lot of talk about Warrior getting fixed, but what about Maurader? What about Lancer? Monk? Archer? Gladiator?

I can only speak for war/mrd, however I have a feeling all other jobs only gimp themselves down when reverting back to their class after hitting 30. If so... what is the point of the class system other than a few extra (usually pretty useless) cross class abilities? My base stats even get gimped down when changing back to MRD! The poor original classes feel like shadows of 1.0 that refuse to pass on.

SE should either get rid of em to avoid that redundant option in your gear set list, automatically get "promoted" to job or.......

Make em better to compete with jobs. Make people really weigh the pros and cons of that job crystal. This would almost double current play styles. How could that be done? Well it would mean a balancing nightmare of course..... but lets see. How about CLASS specific actions that a Maurader CAN do that a WAR can't? Perhaps a new slew of CLASS specific equipment?

Perhaps even more extreme. A role change. For instance, a lancer at 30 could either change to dragoon and become a better DD OR stay a lancer that evolves into a tank that can 1 hand a spear and don a huge tower shield in the other as well as equip heavier armor. A MRD at 30 could go on to war to be a better tank OR stay a MRD and get better offensive abilities to become a DD after 30.

So many things could be done instead of throwing classes to the bench after 30. I'm sure there are other ideas out there.

Marauder with cross-class abilities is actually a very respectable DPS class.

And mages, thaumaturge especially, get cures, protect, raise and what else not that would help them solo.

I agree, there's absolutely no point to going Gladiator when you can go Paladin, maybe if it could use two weapons, two-handed weapons or got a massive boost if it fought without a shield. But yeah. Anything a Gladiator can do, a Paladin can do better.

Seen any of them DPS MRDs que up as DD for anything? Haven't quite did endgame yet (level 44 mrd), but I don't think any classes are seen in endgame fights or dungeons. I think you are right, if I souped up my mrd good I could dps, but you can't que like that. Also I don't have any traditional dps to compare it to, but I feel pretty dps worthy even tanking as WAR.

Also nice gladiator idea, a lot of people want dual wield and greatsword in this game.

The all important stat boost makes up for any ability that can be equipped.

But that being said jobs and classes are working just fine. The thing is, jobs main function is to a better roll in a pt so when you group up and fight harder content that has to be done in a group the more focused jobs are the way to go. For everything else class is the way to go.

The only issue is that quest, world mobs, world travel, fates anything that's not in df or coil is so easy to do solo it makes no difference if I take my crystal off. That the main reason no one uses classes post 30

I see what you are saying I think. Job for party, class for solo..... but class aint even better for solo in my experience (all important stat boost). You said it yourself. So what is it good for? I think damn near nothing, which is why classes needs revamping or straight up being friggin done away with.

Main thing is a drg I'm more focused for dps but as a lnc I could cross class some more buff abilities damage mitigation abilities and heal.

But as it stands now solo fights are so easy there is no need for any of that just burn the mob down, fights don't drag out and are not that hard.

Can a MRD even queue up as a DD? I haven't played any classes that let you choose your roll in DF so far. Only played conjurer, gld/pld, and arc/brd in df groups so far, and none of those let me pick my role.

From the jobs that I've tried so far, the main job abilities and stat bonus far outweigh the loss of low level cross class abilities in group situations.

That would be great if there were something to do solo, but once you hit 50 you can either raid or level another class, classes don't really seem to have any pro's

As a main PLD, I disagree until LV 40. Until then, the ability to use haymaker in my opinion outweighs the extra hits from sword oath.
And noone in my PT ever complained.

...

Apart from that, I partially agree with the OP; post 30, it becomes increasingly difficult to justify the use of classes.
However, it way help to think of classes as of a trunk wherefrom lots of branches (jobs) will eventually branch off.
Just as with SMN/SCH. The basic class skills can be used by both.

I've taken to just thinking of jobs as the equivalent of a spec system from other games. You see this being used with acn branching into smn and sch.
Once I started looking at all the other classes as not having all their specs released it made more sense to me. It gives room for future content and expansion. On one hand I feel like it might have been more interesting with more specs to play, on the other these mmo's have been lasting for ten years, after a while I will have so many jobs it's ridiculous.

So classes aren't useful once you hit 50 (right now, there's still plenty of game between level 30 and 50), at least until SE raises the level cap and adds more content, some of which might be fine for doing solo.

Is that really a problem?

The only thing that I think, is that when they finally release PvP that classes may be better at it then Jobs, only for the fact that they will have access to more cross class abilities, But since we know nothing about what PvP will be like, and I think they mentioned that PvP will have some of its own skills, this is all pure speculation at this point.

nope

It COULD queue up as tank #2 in an 8 man that really goes as more DD in a setup where the party is confident the main tank won't go down. Right now with classes being so gimp, bored endgamers could try the class only challenge for dungeons and stuff.

Can queue for HM Titan and just DD. Only need one tank there, which is a drawback of the Duty Finder for that run. Can be fixed with a DD WAR in one of the Tank slots.
