Commendations changing players attitudes...for the better?Follow

It can't just be me noticing the slight change in the way people conduct themselves in dungeons with the onset of commendations. People say hello, they go out of their way to advise on mechanics, make light hearted jokes, and the most shocking part of all, I've seen several people actually apologize for making a silly mistake.

I believe we all want commendations, and we all know being a d..ck isn't going to get you one. Call it coincidence, or what have you, but I believe people are genuinly being more civil to one another.

I haven't noticed any differance myself but I have noticed that people seem to leave before anyone has a chance to vote so the commendation system seems under utilized.

I got two commendations yesterday from one dungeon which was a nice surprise, and the lala in out group was trying really hard and cracking jokes all the time (not all of them good)! It was definitely a nice change from the silent runs I'm used to with no-one speaking.

I ran Prae (omgwtf 300 ToP!!) this morning and noticed this too. Funny enough, the guy I wanted to commend stuck around ;)

CT still has total jerks who can't fathom that 24 people might be new to this 3-day-old event. But I've found my party has been nice, even if other alliances weren't. (I have 9 commendations so far, gilded magiteck here I come!)

Always seems like the tanks get it by default for me even when I'd been explaining the new bosses to first-timers. :/

Anyway, I think part of the cordiality is tied to the newness of select things. People still find jerks in CT and such, as noted, but once people get more attuned to the new areas, routine will fall into play and things may grow a bit more silent. I can't say it bothers me specifically, in part because there's no cross-server friending to be had yet, if there ever will be due to its structuring.

I've been trying to spread the love when voting. I gave my commendation to a BLM one run when he took initiative on taking down adds on Tonberry King without being asked.

I've had a couple of tanks just kind of bark out orders. But I don't think that was necessarily due to them trying to get commendations. They may have taken the exact same approach before this patch.

Of course if you tie a reward in with, let's face it, kissing ***, people are going to pucker up and suck the stink until they get what they want.

I'm not sure improved attitudes are a result of new systems. I think it's more like the asshats are starting to move on to the next big thing.

Ha! Yes. There's also Chocobo Barding (looks like a crown on your chocobo), a minion, and a crown for yourself. Pretty awesome.

Is there an NPC where you turn in commendations like currency? Or just mailed to you? Or like straight to you inventory when you get the achievment?

On a related note:
Don't know if anyone is working on Beast tribe quests for reputation yet? You get the Drake Horn from getting enough rep and then it costs 120k.

I'm thinking it will make some very positive changes to the player base, its sad that they needed to do something like that, but it's positive over all.

SE can adjust participation through the reward system and keep people playing nicely so that new players have a good time and want to continue playing... it's kind of genius if you think about it.

It's like a "player base niceness scale" that SE can slide up or down as needed to grow the player base continually and keep them logging in.

My experience with randoms and their attitudes/ego (not talking about skill here) in the DF has been worse post-patch, I'm sorry to say. At least they added a kick function!

Agree with the first sentence. While it's awesome that people are being nicer in DF parties, it's very sad that SE basically has to bribe the playerbase in order to make people get along with each other.

Of course, since vote kick is also in, that might also play a part in the general atmosphere of DF parties.

We're back to this again?

Yes the interaction in random parties seems to have improved. Yes some people were rude before, and still are. NO the vast majority of players are not rude. There weren't before, there still are not. Most FF players are just regular gamer guys and girls, looking to have a fun time playing FF in their free time. They enjoy cooperative content, in a beautiful fantasy setting, and enjoy FF themes. We have a great deal in common for us to even be playing this game together.

Perpetuating this misconception that our fellow FFXIV players in general are rude and selfish does absolutely nothing positive for the game or it's community. I find myself questioning exactly how friendly the people that complain about the community really are.

Secondly, bribery is awesome. It's especially awesome when I am rewarded for doing what I was gonna do anyway.

TESO and Wildstar betas are going on right now.

Even if we lose a third of our subs to those games, as long as its just the asshats moving along, I won't mind one bit.

QFT. Quality > quantity.

So THATS what this recommendation thing is. I was away from the game for some time due to real life issues and I got in after the patch and well saw that. It is true that before in dungeons 2 out of 3 times I would have been the only one to say hi when we first got in. People were just acting that the rest of the people didn't exist. Now however I saw that like all of them started saying hi and I kept wondering why.

And of course there was a guy in my last one that kept saying jokes..became really annoying at some point if you ask me. (especially since he greed/need in everything and actually WON everything >_<)

I did my first duty roulette last night and we landed on Ifrit. The fight couldn't have gone more smoothly lol. I left w/o knowing how to commend ppl but after quick runs like that I will be using this for sure.

I havent seen much of a change myself. Still get mostly nice people with a sprinkle of asshats. This may sound weird, but as a tank it seems to me that people default to commending the tank. I hope people will think it through a bit more. Already got the first achievement. Hell I gave one to a brand new drg, first time in WP who just clicked and knew to follow the targets, and keep moving. Didnt have to give much direction until the king.

One thing I wish they would change, is if you go into DF with a partial group, you could commend the players outside your group. Had a great whm earlier who put up with me and my friends antics.

You cannot give recommendations if you enter the dungeon with a buddy. FYI.

Finally did Stone Vigil last night and took along a MNK friend. Neither of us got the recommendation window.

Sounds like measure to prevent "like" farming.

The one problem I have with CT now is that even though I can appreciate some people are new to it, nobody says so. Every run I've done we start it by asking if anyone is new, and not once had anyone replied to that question. Then when we get to the atomos boss we wipe over and over because people don't stand on the platforms, or people don't kill adds in behemoth and keep dropping comets right next to him.

I've got nothing against new players, but holy **** don't just stay quiet and get the raid wiped 10 times, then complain when people get pissed off. I consider myself a nice player, I help people and don't get nasty over chat, but even I let out a massive rant at the group after we died for the 6th time. The dungeon is damn easy, as long as people listen and do their jobs.

With the kick function, people probably fear getting kicked for being new. 2.1 has been out a week and I already see i80+, experience only shouts going on. The elites of this game expect everyone to be an expert at all the new content after a week.

I did an AK run tonight. At the start, tank said something about he was using his brothers account and might be a little off. After we beat the last boss, he came clean and said this was his first time doing AK. Aside from getting caught in the purple stuff on demon wall a few teams, he actually did fine. Clearly, people are afraid to say they are new.
