As far as tome points have gone, it's all random. I personally got 3 Myths (and 1100 gil) off a peiste one, only one i did. Seems like just bad luck in the random generation. Went to all that trouble to organize a bunch of people together for it, and we got a terrible payout.

Boar however got me 9 (and 5k gil) on the first run i did, i then got 3 on another, and my last one yielded 7 points.

It seems like getting 5 points off Peiste can really just be the random number generation dealing out a 5 three times in a row. Or maybe Peiste simply gives a diffirent range of points (i.e. 5-10-15 opposed to 3-5-7-9 or even 1 through 10).

From what i've experienced myself (with the same incredibly small sample size as the rest of us) is that the point payout are simply randomized.

What i did find was that for me personally, simply running Boars would give me a better payout than trying to put together a group for peistes. Even though the Peiste fight was far more interesting (got two dual-sword demons, an Ogre and some other mid-boss monsters you encounter in dungeons). Also, in Peiste, your loot (outside of Myths and gil) gets divided between members. Someone got 220 shards, another item X, another item Y, and we could roll for the cobalt. For Boar, you get those amazing numbers of shards yourself :3

Gatherers can only find one map every 18 hours, that's correct.

The tome / money drop for the 8-man seem to be split across the party. When we do full 8-mans on a map, we each usually get 3-5 tomes and 1500 - 2000 gil. So the real benefit of these maps is to do them with as few people as possible. I'm not sure if any are truly soloable, but we've hit a few that were definitely in the duo-able range with good enough gear.

Yeah, but I have a few gatherer friends and we're going to be doing them together so I'll be getting some of their stuff, and they'll be getting some of mine. They got 15 myth tomes twice in a row, so it's definitely random. They also got 8 aqueous whetstones from one of them, which is the equivalent of 1,000 philo tomes.


It took me over 3 days to get my 4 maps.


You can have 1 key item map of any variety, and you can have one of each type of map in your inventory, and one of each type on each retainer. Ignoring the other types, you can have 4 peiste maps built up before you do a run.
