Hide Helmet and Heavy ArmorFollow

I just recently got my GLA (my first DoM/DoW class) up to 35 and I'd really have to say...

I wish we could hide helmet with heavy armors. We are kinda-sorta forced to wear heavy armor (because there's no viable non-heavy variants at that level that have equivalent stats) and... It might just be personal opinion, but I don't really like how the armor looks on my character, especially how the helmet is.

I usually have helmets hidden because I don't like how most of them look, I want to actually see the facial expressions of my character, her hair, etc. But this armor is kinda meh.

They really should have made two versions of the heavy armor -- one with the helmet, and without (aesthetic-wise, not in-game stats-wise). Wasn't it the Japanese that invented the "huge armor with the giant neck but no helmet" anime style in the first place?

Or they could at least give us non-heavy armor with equivalent stats or something, but none exists that I could see. That goes right up there with Gladiators/Paladins being forced to use daggers; it just irks me sometimes.

I feel the same way about cloaks for casters. You can glamour body+head pieces into a normal body piece though.

....but not until Level 50, though.

I suppose I just gotta wait until I get a non-heavy armor later and/or wait until Lv50.

Or could just FATE it wall the way up to 50 lol.

it's interesting to notice that after the glamur function was implemented, I haven't seen almost any heavy armor (the kind that comes with a helmet) or robes with hoods.

Many players spend a good deal of time customizing our characters' faces; our characters have a LOT of customization options.

While wearing Heavy Armor, 99% of these decisions (other than the tail if you happen to be a Miqo'te) are completely invisible, so yeah.

Doesn't matter what you chose when you made your character, wearing a suit of Heavy Steel, you look exactly like anybody else who is also wearing a suit of Heavy Steel.

Probably the reason why. We didn't spend all of that time on our character's face just to cover it up fully.

Same reason many people play with helms hidden in the first place. People want to see faces and hair.

I don't get why they wouldn't just make /visor put the hoods/helms up and down on cloaks and heavy armor. That would solve most of those issues altogether.

It is worth noting that if you glamorize a "normal" body piece onto a head/body piece, you'll look as if you're just not wearing anything on your head. I'd like to think that's at least an acceptable substitute.

Agreed, wish you could hide the helm part of the suits.

As for not having anything in that level range that is good to wear, there are plenty of options. Brayflox drops the Cavalry set, which looks good and is multi pieced. Also, check out your GC for good armor all the way up until you get to 45. They won't always have something for your level, but most of it is good enough to carry you through 8-10 levels before having to fully upgrade your gear.

I leveled both tank classes, and was pretty up to date on my armor at all times throughout the process. I never wore any heavy sets until I got DL gear at lvl 50, just to say that you do have other options available.

I don't assume that anyone is stupid either, but I would note that having a helm for 30 def, and a chest for 60 def is the same thing as having 90 def on one heavy set taking up both the helm and chest slot.

Heavy Armor Suit lvl 35 https://xivdb.com/?item/3128/Aetherial-Heavy-Steel-Armor Stats =150 def, 12 str, 13 vit.

Cavalry Chest lvl 32 https://xivdb.com/?item/3122/Cavalry-Cuirass Stats = 85 def, 7 str, 8 vit, 7 acc, 9 det.

Cavalry Helm lvl 32 https://xivdb.com/?item/2772/Cavalry-Mask Stats = 61 def, 4 str, 5 vit, 4 par, 6 acc.

(two cavalry combined Stats = 146 def, 11 str, 13 vit, 13 acc, 9 det, 4 par. More then comparable, if not better because of the added stats, and of course the appearance of it.)

I am also assuming that your armor sets are not masterfully loaded with materia. If they are, then it probably is possible to eek out some better numbers then what you are gonna find elsewhere, depending on your preference of what stats you focus on.

I'm Lv35, I could Q up for Brayflox God-Knows-How-Many-Times until I get said Cavalry set, OR, I could just FATE it up until the mid-40s whenever the next non-heavy suit is available...

There's the Flame Private set that is Lv20-25 and then the Pants that are 30 (IIRC?). That's all you get from the GC (at least the Flames) until Early to Mid-40s. That leaves me an almost 10 level gap where I can either wear the Heavy Steel Armor, or pray for two drops out of Brayflox.

And Tank drops in dungeons... well, let's say I've seen exactly two (Helmet out of... Copperbell I think? and a pair of gloves out of Halatali) in all of my dungeon runs up until this point, so hopefully you'll understand if I've not much faith of them dropping anyday soon.

Yes, the GC armor does rock. I wish they had a mid-30s set, though TBH.

You prolly got lucky, or you saved drops while doing other classes, or something. This PLD is my first class to 50, so...

Ah well. Probably end up pounding out FATEs or something until I can wear whatever is next after Heavy Steel. Probably Mithril Cuirass and Celata/Elmo, whatever level that is. Probably 40-44?

It's not luck, it's patience. I generally don't save anything either, I don't much care for clutter. Every time any one of my classes in is in Brayflox range, I run it as much as I can. I have done that dungeon probably 150 times since phase 3 beta on. Fate grinding for levels is a **** poor choice nowadays anyhow, especially as a tank, and especially now that no one is fate grinding the normal leveling zones. You will more more then likely get an instant que every single time, plus better armor chances, plus easy experience.

If you you just do a dungeon once, then curse your luck for not finding any drops, your a fool.

I always used a normal heavy chestpiece and hid the helmet. Because the heavy suits disallow you to equip a helmet the stats round out about the same, and I don't have to look like an ***.

Not everybody enjoys doing a singular dungeon 150 times....

Did you read where I said I found 2 tank pieces out of every single dungeon I've ever done in my history of playing FFXIV?

I've probably done like 20 dungeons now, and only saw 2 tank pieces. That's... 2 pieces out of what, 60-80 bosses?

lol.

I think I'll just FATE/DF once/day until I can wear something better.

The Horn Scale set is at 38. Horn Scale mail/greaves/fingers, along with the mythril elmo and bearskin breeches. Heliodor bracelet and choker are at 38 too.

Awesome.

That's only 3 levels away.

Beats grinding Brayflox who knows how many times lol.

Actually I think I am just a hair from dinging 36, even.

This is exactly why I rarely show my head pieces. The exceptions are sometimes my WAR AF because you can /visor and that's awesome, or circlet/diadem-style stuff that accentuate instead of completely cover.
