After all the bad things I said about that stupid, stupid, brainless Atma stuff,
I guess it's time to note something positive. Maybe it's only on my server, but
it's been a looong time since I last saw stuff like "$%$cheapgilZ visit g0oldseller.cn $54saDF"
or trains of mining taru clones.

Maybe they did something right.

They're never gone. Gil is borderline useless in this game so it's just not much profit in it. There's always a large surge of the when new patches come out. They'll be back in business at 2.3.

Depending if you're on Primal center or not, they probably just can't log in.

I get a spam at least once per day!
#4 Apr 25 2014 at 9:08 PM Rating: Good
I get them once in awhile in any of the starter towns. They've definitely been toned down since the start though.

I still get loads, way worse than FFXI ever was, most likely because the RMTs know that you can't receive tells in dungeons and therefore they spam you every 1-2 minutes or so until you blist them, something that never really happened to me in FFXI.

I'll go ahead and say that it also depends what server. Balmung for example (one I'm on), is currently locked to new character creation. So unless they're mass hacking accounts, they won't have too many new characters to create and spam you.

Sorry to burst your bubble but it's just about every hour on Midgard when it comes to RMT tells.

Maybe your server has a population restriction in place? That usually does it.

Last night I got on for about 5 minutes to check my retainers and I got 3, 2 from the same person, before I logged out. I play on Cactaur and I was sitting in the markets in Gridania.

Maybe there are more buyers on my server than on others, but I have to blist several new RMT characters sending me tells every night I play.

Balmung is pretty bad. The lack of a 'report' feature is really lame as well. I blist them just to shut them up, but there REALLY should be a way to report these tells.

I get 3-4 Gilseller /tells every time I visit the 3 starter towns or their outlying areas.

Sometimes I get 2 tells from the same bot before I can even right click and blacklist them.

50/50% chance that I will get a /tell while I'm logging in while I still see the "Now Loading" screen, I'll hear that /tell jingle (which has to be one of the more annoying sounds I've ever heard applied to /tells).

If SE would put, say, a 10 second cooldown on how often you could send /tells, then these bots would be severely crippled.

That ^^

It's been getting better it seems, but I do think more data would get sent in (and rmt banned) if we had a more simple report feature.

Got assaulted for about 30 minutes by various spammers this morning. Added 7 to my blacklist. Generally it's one or less per day.

Really do think it's to do with the character creation limits on some over full servers right now.

Not only gilsellers, but also ridiculous names and other bad behaviors. Someone in my FC just earlier said they saw a dark-skinned guy with the name "Saggy Nuts". It'd be nice to just right-click and click "Report Name" and be on with my business.

I saw a guy named Im Hard - mildly offensive. One I saw that was REALLY lol hysterical was a lalafell called Fetus Beware. Some people have really embraced this first\last name thing.

I dunno - I guess if a name really bothered me I'd go through the channels to report. As it is, I just wish there was a report feature for the rmt tells. If one of them catches me just as I afk for dinner or whatever, I come back to a screen full of pink.

Ultros RMT spam has stepped up a gear these last few days, I blocked 1, 5 mins later another with same message, blocked that then a few mins later a third from the same group. Constantly emptying old names off of the black list to fit new ones :(

I think pretty soon, I'm going to have to simply turn off whispers altogether, because it surely won't be too long until my blacklist gets full. I hate to do that because every now and then I do get a legit whisper (usually some newbie needing help), but... I don't want to go through the hassle of emptying lists out and filling them back up, having to block a /tell every 5 minutes, blah blah.

And when more players start doing that, that just hurts newbies because they can't get anybody to respond to /tells.

SE actually acts pretty quickly depending on the name. When I hit my Trial for roulette and ended up in a Titan with a female Miqote named 'Queen ************ I reported it and she got disconnected and came back in with a new name complaining that she was forced out of game and had to rename herself. I'm not personally bothered by it, but it's just annoying at times like in this regard lol.

Hell I ran into my JP taru friend from XI who was named Toilet there named "Numodel Toilet" who probably ended up getting his name reported haha.

I've noticed I very rarely get a tell from anyone who's not RMT in FFXIV. If I do communicate by typing, it's almost always FC chat, party chat, alliance chat, or shouts about town. I've taken the bold step of filtering out tells entirely because I just can't take the constant stream of spam I get, and the annoying sound that plays over and over while I'm watching cutscenes (they always seem to know when I'm watching cutscenes). And believe me, life has become much more peaceful.

I just hope I don't offend anyone who's legitimately trying to contact me. Smiley: blush

I didn't even know you could report people for names, most of the time I don't think I'd even bother anyway, but it does somewhat dampen my enthusiasm for a run when the party list pops up and I see some idiotic name in it.

Just off the top of my head, recently I've seen or been in parties with Butt Face (twice unfortunately), Illslap Yokidz, Phat Camp, Dingleberry Paradise, Butt Hurt, and Ted Bundy (which disgusts me, not someone anyone should pay homage to). I'm sure there have been others in the past couple weeks that I am just not thinking of. I don't know why anyone would want to play with some of these names, even if the individual is immature enough to find it funny initially that has to wear off very quickly.

Perhaps an option "receive tells from friends only" would be helpful?

I don't like the premise of ******** people out of legit contact, myself. Why the system doesn't seemingly track tell volume is beyond me, regardless of whether or not they change a few characters or not. Real players simply aren't sending a tell a second for hours on end. Ever.

The rest is putting some real-time action to things. If players have the means to right-click report someone and someone gets 15 reports in a short period, you need a GM reacting ASAP. If it seems more like someone is getting trolled by a group, then you punish them for abusing the system.

Full automation, however, is impossible as long as you can character swap and employ the myriad of gibberish characters we simply don't use in common language.

They were gone for a little bit with the lockouts on character creation and all.

They made up for it.

New tactic too. Instead of just one purple tell line in the middle of my log, 3 diffirent people send me the exact same message at the exact same time filling up my entire log. Frustratingly anoying. Even more so for a friend of mine who went to make breakfast and came back with a backlog of purple lines. Apparently if you dont instantly block them, they resend it within 30 seconds again.
